Received an email from my Boss on Friday to contact a project manager in Europe for specifics of an assignment in Germany. I have a call with PM in Europe tomorrow morning but I think I may be asked to work in Germany until 2nd week of December. They would fly me home for a few days in October and also from the 20th of November and I would get on a plane 1 December for my return trip from Thanksgiving. I have been there before doing a Castle Road trip stopping in many small towns.

I possibly will be working in Bonn anybody ever been, thoughts or recommendations.

Also want to ask the FBGers is this a viable move or should I not bother. Tomorrow on the call I was going to ask PM if they want to maximize my time instead of flying me home for the Thanksgiving Break they can fly my wife (she is off the entire week of Thanksgiving) to Germany and I will continue to work during that week and she can go sightseeing and visit all the Christmas markets. The customer would have me on site and productive for that time period instead of at home with no remote access, I was going to ask for a fixed amount 1800 Euros as a cap for a RT Ticket and find 2 tickets on Air Berlin for my wife and son. Let me add the Customer I will be working for picks up all Travel expenses not a cost to my company. Good Move or Bad Move.

I think it makes perfect sense to have your wife fly out there to see a new place rather than you fly home and then back again.

They shod have zero problem with that. Honsestly I would tell your company to pick up your sons flight. Cheap thank you for the time you have spent away from home.

Great move. Would have the wife some out instead of going home for every flight they will pay for. Sounds like a great opportunity.

I lived in Bonn for a year - attended the University there on a junior year abroad program many years ago. I loved the city, but a large part of that was that I was young and surrounded by great friends, having great fun. To show my age, Bonn was the capital of the former West Germany when I lived there. Its a Roman city, over 2,000 years old with great culture, politics, and a great university. I didn't care about any of that stuff, other than the international aspect as I was able to meet lots of international girls of all sorts - diplomats daughters. I think the southern part of the City (Bad Godesberg) is still used as a base for embassies and consulates. I used to describe Bonn as a great place to live, but I wouldn't want to visit - meaning, its not going to be a destination for tourists that have only 2 or 3 weeks in Europe, but is a great place to have as your home base for an extended stay. Bonn is very convenient to Amsterdam/Holland, Munich, Berlin, Belgium, Paris. The immediate area around Bonn - "Ruhrgebiet" - including Cologne, Dortmund, Monchengladbach, Bielefeld, Dussledorf, etc. is not all that interesting - heavy industry mostly, but there are some cool little villages that make for good day trips.
