Get it On! Rookie Draft Discussion Thread (2 Viewers)

Joppru to Houston? Hello! Can you say offensive linemen? :(Scouting report: Possesses soft hands and extends to the ball rather than allowing it to get into his body. For a tight end, Joppru displays excellent agility after the catch and can be a dangerous player with the ball in his hands. Showed great leaping ability as well for a TE. Not fast enough to get down field, and not big enough to be a blocking TE. Looks to be a good H-back in the NFL. He will never be able to be another tackle in his blocking but he could hold it for a bit. Very nice routes and solid hands, but the speed is a down fall. Joppru can't get down the field and beat coverage consistently. So how does he help here?
I agree with the O-line idea but have read that they don't really like Billy Miller.
I remember reading that David Carr really liked Miller, though.Maybe they want to convert Joppru to a FB?

Pisa Tinoisamoa.....Hawaii.....6'0", 231.....4.58/40. Reachy here. I am glad they addressed this spot now, I just hope they are certain that his value merited this high selection. Who am I kidding, this was a huge reach by at least a round. :( Not even in the top 100 of Kiper's list. Not in the top 10 on many sites. I hope this is one of those "Isaac Bruce" type surprise picks. Two rounds and needs haven't been addressed yet. They need 2 corners, ILB, WR, FS, and TE.

I liked ESPN's polls they had last year where you get to vote on who each team is going to take. Wonder why they aren't doing those this year.

Why did the Pats just add ANOTHER WR when they have nothing in the backfield?
Especially that WR, I'd like to think these guys know what they're doing, but it seems like some teams are forgetting about highly rated guys who dropped and just going with their plan from before the draft started.

There's a lot of potential first round talent out there still: Lee Suggs, Chris Kelsay, Dennis Weathersby, Kelley Washington, and Onterrio Smith. They all are capable of playing at a very high level, but each has some questions.

Well I for one have never heard of Bethel so I did a search......

BETHEL JOHNSON

Position: WR

Class: Sr

School: Texas A&M

Conference: Big 12

Ht., Wt.: 5'11, 201

40 Time: 4.34

Grade: 3.53

BIO: Part-time starter who caught 40 passes for 718 yards with eight scores last season after 42-440-0 as a junior in 2000. Started the first two games of the 2001 season before a ruptured spleen ended his year.

POSITIVES: Athletic receiver who's development has been hampered by illness in college. Fluid releasing off the line of scrimmage, moves well laterally and looks the ball into his hands. Good eye-hand coordination, comes over the middle and lays out to make the reception in a crowd.

NEGATIVES: Does not play to his forty-time, not explosive and lets the ball unnecessarily get inside of him.

ANALYSIS: Never fulfilled the expectations placed upon him and will need time and patience, but the underlying athletic skills possessed by Johnson makes him worth consideration. Displayed flashes at the Scouting Combine and showed rare innate abilities, but that is keeping in par with his college career.

PROJECTION: Early Fifth Round

They should've taken a chance with one of the runners.
Doesn't say much for those runners.....
Not a year goes by without some sort of fantasy impact by a rookie running back. It's left to be seen who this years standout(s) will be, but they are certainly being undervalued in the real world.

Well Miami should be happy, I guarantee they have a choice of guys they had as first round value...Really weird draft.

LMAO @ "The Genius" Bellicheck. Boner pick in the 2nd frame.
Looks that way for now.But a lot of people were saying the same thing after Seymour was drafted too. I'll give him the benefit of the doubt until proven otherwise.

ANOTHER cb???
Stud CB Theory.Actually, it makes sense. That was the weakest position going into the draft, and look at the sets of WRs they have to face in the AFC West:Oakland: Jerry Rice, Jerry Porter, Tim BrownDenver: Rod Smith, Ed McCaffrey, Ashley LelieKansas City: . . . uh, never mind.

Spurrier gets his man. Jacobs to WASH.Any opinions on what this means for Coles and Gardner
Jacobs will be the #3 WR. Minimal efect this year, possible #2 next.

15(47) Kansas City KAWIKA MITCHELL MLB SOUTH FLORIDA

Is there something I don't know about Kelsay that has him dropping so far?

Who? He gets the award for first guy I havent heard of
I don't know the guy either:Kawika Mitchell Position: Inside Linebacker College: South Florida Height: 6-1 Weight: 253 Hometown: Winter Springs, Fla. Career Notes | Agility | High School | Personal | Stats ANALYSISPositives: Well-built student of the game with thick legs and a solid upper body frame … Shows the range to flow to the sidelines and the sudden burst to search out the quarterbacks in backside pursuit … Has the lateral agility to string plays wide and the sideline speed to cover the tight ends in the short area … Displays quick change of direction agility and the foot speed to drop back in pass coverage … Stays low in his pads, extending his arms properly to stalk, wrap and secure the ball carrier … Squares his shoulders when filling the rush lanes. Negatives: Looks too stiff in his backpedal, needing to gather himself before breaking on the ball … Needs to improve his overall strength (weight room figures do not translate to the field), as he struggles to shed (keeps hands too short) and is slow to react to double teams … Too often gives up his chest to blockers due to poor hand usage … Has to show less hesitation in run support, as he tends to wait for the play to come to him rather than stepping up and initiating contact … Marginal pass rusher with no burst and power off the snap … Does not have the long pursuit speed to be effective working in space. CAREER NOTESThree-year starter with experience in the middle and weakside outside linebacker positions … Came to the Bulls after redshirting as a freshman at the University of Georgia … Recorded 367 tackles (230 solos) with eight sacks for minus-56 yards, 37 stops for losses of 118 yards, three forced fumbles and two interceptions in 43 games … His 367 tackles set a school career record, topping the previous mark of 317 by Roy Manns (1997-2000) … Only Shawn Hay (38, 1997-2000) had more stops behind the line of scrimmage in South Florida history.
