Right now the help I need is help getting rid of this annoying feature.

Blocking javascript on this site got rid of it for me.  I'm not sure what other functions it disables, but so far it seems worth it.

Ok, so it turns out I had to re-enable it just to actually post this.  Still might be worth it to turn it off, since I don't post all that often anyway.

If you're on a Samsung, disable the peel smart remote app. Doesn't make sense at all, but that thing was adding weird automatic functions. 

(This might not be what you're talking about, but I just started getting weird "helpful" notifications and that turned out to be it.)
