Breaking News: Ghislaine Maxwell, the longtime associate of Jeffrey Epstein, was charged in federal court for the first time with sex-trafficking of a minor.

So will she be on suicide watch or are we going to have to go through more conspiracy theories? This woman has deep knowledge of the people and persons involved in this thing. It'd be a shame to see her go quietly.

Don't worry.   They'll take care of her just like they did Epstein.  She won't be surviving long enought to testify.

It was announced earlier today along with a new pizza coupon, we're working it out on the chalkboard in the War Room thread.  

The jump from $150,000 to say $250,000 after these new tax hikes, seems like they want to keep folks down under a certain ceiling.

I assumed this Maxwell woman was already charged, what was she being held in prison for if she had not been charged with a crime? 

And she will stand trial and she will get what is coming to her.  This is America dammit!

I'm not sure what you're getting at.  If you are trying to defend the Clintons then just stop.  They don't need your help NOR have I ever mentioned them.  There are a lot more people involved than just Slick Willy.

What I'm getting at is alleging that there are powerful faceless men and women pulling strings behind all this is as conspiratorially (is that a word?) silly as QAnon, Rothchilds, etc.

 
Surprised no one brought this back up. Potentially the biggest story of the century and it's getting barely any coverage. Jury selection began yesterday.

A couple of interesting items procedure wise. The judge is in line for a federal appointment but is staying on to finish this trial. Stephen Gilers, professor of law at NYU, believes this to be a conflict of interest.

The trial is Ghislaine Maxwell vs the US. This professor of law thinks her being in line for a federal position would cause her to rule in favor of US.

To be honest, with all of the high-profile names associated with this case and the potential to uncover so many more I'm surprised shes made it this far.

Isn't she already a federal judge?

NM: I see the argument in the post below. Doesn't sound like the professor thinks it is a conflict of interest. He thinks it is a hypothetical argument her lawyers might bring up.

Uh, this seems to be a pretty tepid case in favor of conflict of interest:
 

Stephen Gillers, a professor at New York University School of Law, said one hypothetical question was whether Ms. Maxwell’s lawyers might seek to have the judge recuse herself because the Biden administration would be in a position to derail her promotion if she did not favor the government in the trial.

But he said in his view, based on hundreds of cases involving judicial recusal, a promotion like Judge Nathan’s would not provide a basis for such a request.

“This does not even come close to the sort of interest that leads to recusal,” he said.

To be honest, I'm still perplexed at how she's still alive and hasn't been "epsteined" yet.  The amount of powerful people and celebrities involved in this is massive - they HAVE to have plans on silencing her.

 
Epstein really shows that there are definitely two different sets of rules for the wealthy and powerful.

He received a lighter sentence than many drug offenders do. 

 
This is one of those cases where the outcome is so ridiculous that nobody will believe it. 

This further entrenches me into the camp of - none of the stuff we all bicker about matters and we dont have control of any of it. Basically the George Carlin rant about how this country has long been bought and paid for.

I am rather surprised she is still alive.   I wonder if she has already made her deals. Certainly the Clintons would have to be appeased or she would not likely be alive today.

As I have said many many times...It's not the Clintons they have to fear.  It's the Royal Family.   If the prince can be linked to this, then she's got a big target on her back.  And the Brits have centuries of experience dealing with things related to protecting the crown.  I would fear them far more than the lowly Clintons.

I don’t see that as anywhere near being a conflict of interest requiring recusal.

I hear there are other professors who teach and practice law that find this line of thinking to be silly.

Agree.  Because of how they handled Epstein they have to handle her differently.  But how do they bribe her? She has no family right?  Do they simply tell her to chose life or death, and life is prison forever, but maybe a nicer one?

It's not that she's necessarily going to go free, but she has so much knowledge of the rich and powerful (politicians, celebrities, power brokers...) being involved in this that the fear is that she will be shuttered to either a dark hole and no one will be exposed because the government will cover it up to protect themselves and/or powerful friends or she will be threatened with her life if she speaks.
