**Giants at Washington**(-6, 46) 1:00 (2 Viewers)

I think Washington picks up right where they left off last season, and I also think the Giants preseason success may be a bit of a mirage.

I think Washington's defense is a little underrated. Dan Quinn gets the most out of guys too. This is a legit Super Bowl contender in my eyes.

I think the answer to the Washington RB question probably isn't what anyone wants, but a 3-man RBBC. I think Terry McLaurin gets deep a couple times, and Jayden Daniels looks like an MVP candidate.

Washington covers

The NYG radio stations think the Giants not only cover, but win this game and the next one at Dallas

Good to hear the confidence for NYG. As a WAS fan that defensive front scares me and -6 is a big number for a divisional week 1 game.

But the more I look at it, I like WAS here. Those I've seen who like NYG and taking the points have mentioned that both games last year were close. And they were. But let's take a closer look.

Week 2 @WAS- WAS 21-NYG 18.
I keep hearing NYG would have won this game had their kicker not got hurt and they weren't forced to go for 2pt conversions all game. That's how you score 3 TDs and lose to a team that didnt get in the endzone. Fair point.

But WAS outgained NYG 425 to 304. They didn't score a TD but all 7 drives ended in FGs and they got to the redzone 6 times. And this was Daniels' 2nd career start and home opener. Yes, NYG having a kicker probably makes a difference but WAS outplayed them overall.

Week 9 @NYG- WAS 27-22
WAS was up 21-7 at the half and 24-10 after 3 quarters. Daniel Jones led a nice 4th quarter comeback to make it 27-22, which was the final score. However on WAS game sealing drive they went all the way down the field and had 1st and goal at the1 yard line with 1:37 left. They ended the game with 3 kneel downs. Could have easily been a double digit win.

Looking at this game with offseason changes
There are conflicting thoughts on WAS's offseason. The majority of the fanbase is excited about the additions of Tunsil, Deebo, and a small but well regarded draft class. I also see a lot of talk questioning whether or not they got better and did enough to address last year's atrocious run defense. They also did not add an edge-rusher other than 36 year old Von Miller, losing last years sack leader Fowler to FA.

Offensively, WAS upgraded the tackle sports with Tunsil and 1st round pick Conerly, shifting last year's starting LT Coleman to LG where he has a higher ceiling. In addition to Deebo, rookies Bill Croskey Merritt and Jaylin Lane add more potential big play ability. 2nd year for JD5 with Kliff as a playcaller, a stronger O-line (RG Cosmi- there best OL from last year is OUT), and additional playmakers is cause for a lot of optimism about this offense headed into the year.

Defensively, there is the concern about the run defense. FA signing Kinlaw did not score that well as a run defender in previous years and his contract is still one that folks question. They signed veteran d-lineman like Wise and Goldman who arent big names but have shown some effectiveness against the run. Last year's leading tackler Bobby Wagner is 35 so there is the concern about his ability to do it again.

On the positive side, changing the CB room from entering last year with St. Juste, Forbes, rookie Sainristil, Igbi, and Michael Davis to a healthy (at least for now) Lattimore, 2nd round pick Trey Amos, 2nd year Sainristil, Jonathan Jones, and Igbi is something that I don't know if people outside of the fanbase realize how much of an upgrade that should be. I also personally think Will Harris is an upgrade over Jeremy Chinn, who did have some big hits and was a solid tackler but was not great in coverage and took some horrible angles on a lot of big run plays this defense gave up (See Saquon in NFCCG). I think Whitt and Quinn did a hell of a job scheming to cover up some really subpar CB play last year. I think this year they are able to get into some different calls and looks that will better support defending the run. We shall see.

As for NYG, I haven't followed their moves nearly as closely so won't go into as much detail. They obviously added an elite passing rushing prospect in Carter to an already impressive front 7. They also seemed to have upgraded the secondary with the additions of Holland and Adebo. I think this is going to be a very good defense.

Offensively, they are largely the same unit with the big change in QB to Russell Wilson. Even at this stage in his career that looks like an upgrade over Daniel Jones. And NYG has an elite playmaker in Nabers who is a threat every snap and every time he touches the ball. Skateboo adds to a decent RB room with Tracy and Singletary and they have decent weapons beyond Nabers in Robinson and Slayton. The big question is the O-line that I think has the same question marks as the Commanders run defense.

Bottom Line and Prediction
I like the Commanders here and would lay the points. Won't be doing that to myself as a fan but I think they should win and cover. With starting LT Andre Thomas out, the Giants O-line may neutralize the advantage they could have against a suspect run defense. And while Wilson is an upgrade over Jones, I'd like to point out that Jones had 86 yards and a TD on the ground in last year's 2 games combined. He really hurt WAS with his legs on some key plays in ways that I don't think Wilson can at this stage of his career.

NYG's defense should be VERY good, Nabers is elite, and divisional games are always a wildcard so NYG is definitely a live dog. But I like my team here in what is one of the most anticipated openers for this franchise in quite some time. I think the defense is going to have a good showing today and JD5 finds a way to move the ball and finish drives. Matt Gay has been shaky in pre-season so special teams is another area to watch here. Should be a fun one.

Evan Neal, not even dressed as a back-up Guard. What a bust of a pick.

I really wanna see a couple things out of this game:

1. How good is NY’s Dline? Abdul Carter was a great pick and has been hyped all off-season.

2. Upgrade the Oline, sign Deebo, work out Terry’s contract. How good does Jayden Daniels look? He has that “it” factor that looks generational.

3. What does Russ look like? How soon until Dart gets the start? Do they have any arm talent to take advantage of the premier talent they have in Nabers?

Weird looking injury for McFadden.

Man, WAS made that drive look easy. Either their Oline is greatly improved, or NYG Dline has been massively overhyped in the offseason. Or maybe a little bit of both.

And, no, it’s not too early to make up my mind about either team- it’s been 2 whole drives.
