Giants passing game and offense now that the defense is iffy... (1 Viewer)

With a HoF DE retiring, and another Pro Bowl DE out for the season, there likely is going to be a lot less of a pass rush on defense which means a somewhat suspect secondary will now be primed to give up a lot of cheap easy scores thru the air. When this happens and if there is talent at the skill positions on offense, you sometimes get what we refer to as cheap and easy points for your FF team. If a team strikes quickly thru the air, that means the offense is on the field quickly.

OL: This is the main reason I would bump up the NYG skill positions including QB, RB, WR1, WR2, and yes Kevin Boss as well. This group should allow them to operate and score a lot of points. If the Giants are playing form behind then you have to like Eli Manning and where he is being drafted. Sure, Eli has some very average days but we have also seen him light it up when need be. In the beginning of 2006 when the Giants were still finding themselves on both sides fo theball, Eli had some terrific games from a FF perspective. Eli was #5 in 2005, #11 in 2006, #14 last year...but he has been top5, almost top10 another season...and in a year where everyone seems the same from #5-#20...here is a guy that could have huge upside and is going #14 off the board.

QB: Manning...I discussed what he is capable of.

WR: Plax...as long as he is healthy I wouldn't pump his numbers up too much but he is a nice WR2 coming out of the mid 3rd round right now...or he could be your WR1 if you want to go that route too. I will be interested to see who settles in at WR2...I know Toomer is still holding down the fort but that might change.

RB: Don't sleep on Brandon Jacobs, I got him at the 5.02 over the weekend which I thought was nice value.

Bottom line is New York was going to have to score anyway to compete with the likes of Dallas, but now they may find themselves in a situation where they need about 24+ every week in order to win...if that turns out to be the case, they have the personnel in place to make it happen.

 I agree that Manning and the passing game should put up better numbers out of possible necessity if the anticipated fall off occurs and I think that it should.

I'm (obviously) biased but I think the Giants offense was going to be improved because I think that Eli has turned a corner in his career. I don't expect him to continue to perform as well as the playoff run last year, but I don't expect him to regress to his form in the first half of last year either.

I'd look for Steve Smith to be a big benefactory here (if his training camp injuries are behind him) for I just can't imagine Toomer will be a full time WR2 at his age and Smith crisp route running especially in the short and intermediate routes should benefit a great deal with Shockey being out of town.

SHHHH :excited:

I caught part of the Giants/Jets game this weekend. It seemed that Smith was a bit rusty, dropping a few passes etc, but Manning certainly was looking his way often. Hixon however looked very good. Can any Giants homers give the status of these two? With Burress already hurt, and given Toomers age, it would seem someone is going to get a big bump in value this year.

I like Eli as a # 2 and for all the reasons mentioned above, I like him more now. He slipped and I grabbed him in rnd 11. Very happy with that.

I grabbed Hixon in the last roud of a draft the other night...not sure if it was the best move but I felt he had upside in this offense. He looks sensational in the preseason, and Eli really seems to have taken a liking to him.

Anyone have any more info about Kevin Boss? He looked great at the end of last year. Why isn't he even mentioned as a sleeper TE? With Shockey gone, I would think someone there is going to put up some numbers. What am I missing?

I think guys like Boss are great if you take a TE early...you can grab Boss very late, and there are some others there too. If you burn a 3rd round or higher pick on a TE, you shouldn't have to grab LJ SMith in the 10-11th round...wait 3-5 more rounds and you can grab Boss and have no worries.

I posted some thoughts on the other thread:http://forums.footballguys.com/forum/index...howtopic=415976

In short, I don't think it's correct to assume the Giants defense will be worse. They have less depth along the DL but the secondary is improved and Spags is a very smart guy. He'll figure out ways to compensate, if necessary.

And if the D does struggle, I think they run more to protect them.

Re: Smith and Hixon - they're probably now 3 and 4 on the depth chart but they've been playing different positions. Smith plays primarily in the slot and backs up Toomer at Flanker (Z). Hixon backs up Burress at Split End (X). Hixon probably sees less time in the short term unless someone in front of them goes down.

3rd round on a TE? Is it a 10 man league? Seems high to me, 3rd round in a PPR 12 man league? :goodposting:

Jason Witten usually goes pretty early...middle 3rd in most of my drafts.

Time for Kiwi to be a household name.

The Gmen seem to run alot. That would rest the D and continuing that would seem like the plan regardless. I don't think Strahan and Osi changes anything for the O.
