Gibril Wilson (1 Viewer)

On The Rocks

Evil Conservative
Has anything drastically changed in the NY Giants defense that would prevent Gibril Wilson from picking up where he left off last year before his midseason injury?Based on the defensive scoring system in my league and based on a full season, Wilson would have challenged Rodney Harrison for high DB Point scorer.Other than the fact he hasn't done it for one full season?Does anyone have any reason why he shouldn't be a top 5 DB?

Gibril Wilson is a fast riser in the IDP ranks. If not for his injury he likely WOULD be one of the top DB's taken off the board in IDP drafts. Wilson has been given the green light and is practicing as the starting SS, not FS as had been rumored might happen with former starting SS Shaun Williams returning from injury. Wilson is the starting SS in New York and I see no reason to believe he won't produce at the high level he was last year. The kid is all heart and will only get better.

As a Giant fan I was thrilled witht eh production I got from Wilson after obtaining him on a waiver claim last year. However this year I can't shake the feeling that he'll be overvalued in drafts. I admit most of this is based purely on gut feeling.First, because he didn't play a full season it's tough to figure how well he'll hold up over the course of 16 games in the NFL. He's not a huge guy and I hate to admit it but his tackling technique could use some work. He's a hard hitter but too often leads with his head. I really think we'll see more injuries of the nature he sustained last year. A leopard can't change his spots. I don't see a way that Wilson can suddenly stop leading with his head and still be effective. The good news is the Giants still plan on making Wilson an active defender. He'll blitz frequently and if last season is an indicator, he's a playmaker in the secondary.I have to admit, I've been nervous about how little both the Giants and Wilson have talked about the injury. The only soundytes you hear are the usual company line. Methinks Wilson's injury was more severe than anybody likes to talk about. I also think he's at a decent risk fo reinjury. He'll still definitely be in my top 15 of DB's however I'm afraid to take him top 7.

wilson's in a position battle with shaun williams, and brent alexander's lining up at the other safety position. my gut says no matter who wins, the other knocks alexander out. i mean its BRENT ALEXANDER. i like wilson long term, but as other posters said, durability is a concern.

they called it a stinger, but he was out close to half the season. later they said there was nerve damage in the shoulder/neck area, so they couldn't rush him back. we traded him in the offseason in a dynasty IDP league... we might regret it if he isn't a long term health risk, as he did look the real deal... a playmaker who averaged about 6 solos a game & for about a six game stretch seemingly got a sack or INT every game.we did get witherspoon as part of the combo trade, so we took the risk that maybe he blows up & is a legit star... witherspoon already is.BTW, i didn't see sanders a lot at iowa & he didn't get a lot of starts with colts... does the "hitman" lead with his head, as well?

The last I read, williams was all sorts of aggravated, being placed ont the 3rd team D. It's Wilson and Alexander right now, with Williams being told, in so many words, he has to fight for a roster spot!

I just nabbed him in the 17th round of a 20 round draft. I would say that is a steal. Not only that but I grabbed Erik Coleman in the 18th round.....
