GM's Thread About Everything/GM's Thread About Nothing (7 Viewers)

Spent 2hrs fixing the wife's computer tonight. That's because the 6 yr old daughter likes to click on everything. It appears she downloaded Microsoft Office Professional Suite, wonder how much that cost.

I don't want to brag on facebook, so I'm doing it here.

Took over all operations at a bike shop in early October. November is the first full month I've got under my belt. Everything was in disarray, and we've lost two people since I came on board on top of it. Not due to me. :) I took some risks and ordered a lot of last year's bikes to sell on closeout, it was a limited time opportunity and I jumped on it.

If we don't sell anything else today, revenue is up 45% and profit up 60% from last November. Feels good.
Sounds like you wheelie know what you're doing.
Sounds like you should head out to a fine establishment for a drink.

Unless you can't handle bars.

He really knows how to pedal those things.
I didn't mean to derail the thread.
Time to shift gears to another subject.

Huh, never seen this one before. The woman in front of me at the gas station left her car running while having her tank filled. That seemsnot so safe, right?

That's a wive's tale from long ago. I turn my car off but apparently there is no extra risk of setting anything in fire compared to shutting off the engine. The worry has always been that a spark from the running engine will somehow find its way to the tank as its being filled, which is stupid because no one worries about the same happening while driving down the road.

About a week ago, a guy pulled up to the pump on the other side from me. Left his car running, talking on cell phone while smoking a cig while he jumped out and started pumping gas.

Leaving the car running at the pump is stupid. All you're doing is burning the gas that you're pumping. If your car doesn't get good mileage you could end up pumping all day and never fill your tank.

In areas where it's not really fit for humans to live, Phoenix, Vegas, etc, maybe Bakersfield, where the temperature approaches the surface of the sun, it's common to leave your car running, so the AC continues to keep you alive. If you you go full service, they expect you to keep it running.

I don't think I've ever even seen this in a decade living on the surface of the sun, much less done it.

First time I experienced it was in Phoenix, camelback corridor. I pulled into a gas station, on fumes, it was full service only. Dude told me leave it running. I did it all the time when I lived there.

I've never been to a full service gas station here. Didn't even know such a thing existed anymore.

OH YES, LOOK AT ALL OF YOU WHO CAN PUMP YOUR OWN GAS. :hot:
If you just said 'No thanks, I got this.' and did it yourself would you get arrested?
Penalty can be a $500 fine, but I've never been bold enough to try it out.
Can you get out of the car and criticize the pump jockey's technique?
They really like it if you tell them you're in a hurry and throw change at them.

We're in the 4th year of #GivingTuesday and this is the first time I'm aware of it?

:oldunsure:
No idea what it is either. People just making #### up.

GivingTuesday, FriendsGiving, Cyber Monday. Just #### off already.
Just really odd I haven't heard of it - the genesis was a 92nd Street Y / United Nations initiative. We're at 92Y at least 6-8 times a year for various bull####. Guess I've been recycling their newsletters/emails without digesting.

But if anyone needs a cause, happy to tell you all about the 3 Fund.

[Tanner] I prefer the Me Fund [/Tanner]

I had a very awkward interaction with the woman on Amazon.com's customer assistance line on Cyber Monday.

Suffice it to say that one of us was somewhat mistaken as to the purpose of the day.
