Golden Tate, WR, SEA (1 Viewer)

Golden Tate looks to see an uptick in targets with "Fragile" Sidney Rice out the rest of the year. He had a nice game tonight, catching a TD in the back of the endzone.

If Seattle acquires anything resembling a starting QB next season (Flynn?), is Golden a 3rd year breakout WR next season?

I stashed him in a deep dynasty as i think next year he could make major progress.Time will tell.
He might be worth an add in dynasty. He was highly touted coming out, then ended up on the WR blackhole that is the Seahawks (yes, as a Bears fan, I don't have much room to talk). Rice is dinged - but obviously will be back in 2012. The Seahawks should be fairly run heavy (another strike against him) and TJax is just mediocre (at best). He might only be a spot starter as a WR3 in 2012 - but that might be worth adding over other guys in that group.

With Rice out, his opportunity doesn't get any better than this but the previous scuttlebutt was that the "Golden Tate experiment" was nearing an end.

I was probably higher than anyone on Tate's chances coming out of ND... but so far he's failed to live up to the hype.

Last night was Tate's best game of his career (in 23 games.... also his first actual start)... Doug Baldwin has already had SIX games better than Tate's best and has only played in 12 games. He's shown a better penchant for the big play and should be getting more targets than Tate, IMO.

It could be that Golden is a late bloomer (he was a RB before college) and it's taken him time to catch on... he's worth a stash... but it could also be that he's a knuckle head and he'll never be the best WR on his team.

He got 51 snaps last night, which was almost twice as many as anyone else. I'd be tempted to pick him up as a WR3 for the playoffs, but his schedule in Week 15 & 16 is pretty rough (@CHI, vs. SF) and he still has a crappy QB throwing to him.

As a long suffering Golden Tate Dynasty owner (I took him with the 1.11 pick :bag: ) I am finally beginning to see some light at the end of the tunnel.

He is rostered in every Dynasty league I am in, but if he is still on any Dynasty WW he looks to be a must pickup IMO.

Sidney Rice is starting to have the flavor to me of a WR whose career is ultimately derailed by health and durability issues. Jackson or Whitehurst don't seem to the future in Seattle and Carroll probably regrets passing on the crop of rookie QBs this year - I don't think he will make the same mistake twice and double down on what he currently has. A change in the QB position could well benefit Tate.

Despite the accelerated timetable of young WRs, some still take more time to develop than others. It should be remembered that Tate converted from RB to the WR position at ND, so it should not be a shock that it takes him longer than most to get the hang of things at the pro level.

I still think he has incredible upside potential and will make a concerted effort to target him in start up drafts next year and try to acquire him in trade in the existing leagues that I don't already own him.

I really doubt it. No OTAs, a new OL with rookies and a 2nd year player all with a new coach, etc... He did the right thing and built a team around the QB spot with a temp player in there to suck up all the hits as the young OL learns their jobs in the NFL. Next year is loaded with QB talent, including his hand-picked freshman starter at USC. He might be regretting some of these wins though, as the further they get from a top 10 pick the more expensive the move up becomes.

Seahawks brain-trust has a very specific long term plan. So far I'm impressed that they haven't wavered in the slightest. The plan is to be a ground and pound team that just out-physicals everyone else. I have a hard time envisioning any WR being a reliable fantasy starter on this team in the future no matter how successful they are. Further, if there is a chance of a WR being a viable my guess is won't be Tate, but more likely Rice. I'm not knocking Tate's potential as much as I am his situation.

I mentioned this in one of the Lynch threads, but one thing that may help him in the long run is blocking. When SkittleMode scored his first TD, he was caught up in a pile and everyone thought the play was over but Lynch popped free. Tate stayed with his block on the only guy past that scrum that had a chance to stop Lynch. Maybe Lynch bowls him over, maybe Lynh goes down. But the chance never happened because Tate never quit on the play. I'll be keeping a closer eye on his blocking from now on.

51 snaps? So is he starting now?

Oddly enough, yes he is, but he forgot he was supposed to start this past Thursday. Seattle took a delay of game penalty on the first play from scrimmage because Tate was still on the sidelines.

Could make for a nice spot play vs. STL on MNF.

Seahawks' Golden Tate shines in first career start

By Brady Henderson

For a moment, Golden Tate showed the lack of focus that has dogged him for much of his young NFL career.

It was the first play of his first career start, and he was late to the huddle.

"At the beginning of the game, I know I'm supposed to be in the game," he said, lamenting the latest mental mistake in a career that has had a few. "I'm just over there thinking about whatever. We're trying to run a play and I'm not even on the field."

Consider it a rough start to an otherwise stellar game, Tate's finest as a pro.

After his early hiccup, Tate caught four passes for 47 yards and a touchdown in the Seahawks' 31-14 win over the Eagles Thursday night. He gained eight yards on a bubble screen that will go down as a run, otherwise giving him a career-high in receiving yards.

"It was an opportunity for me to show up, show the organization, the coaches, the other players on the team and the world that I can play this game. I think this was a good start," he said. "By no means was it a perfect game. There's a lot of things that [come to mind] that I need to work on and get better at, but just a blessing that I got the opportunity."

Tate started the game in place of Sidney Rice, whose season ended this week with another concussion. In the second quarter, Tate turned a short out-route into a 25-yard gain, spinning twice to break three tackles.

In the third quarter, Tarvaris Jackson found him in the back of the end zone for an 11-yard touchdown. Jackson lobbed the ball over two Eagles defenders, and Tate out-jumped one with his arms outstretched before deftly coming down with both feet in bounds.

"Like I said last week when I scored, I did the easy part," Tate said.

His quarterback saw it differently.

"Him going up and getting it -- that was Golden," Jackson said. "That's what he's good at -- going up and getting the football. What was so good about that catch was him getting his toes down and he did a great job of concentrating, making the catch, first of all, and then getting his feet down in the back of the end zone. I appreciate that, so I take my hat off to him."

The athleticism Tate showed on that play is what made him the nation's best receiver during his final season an Notre Dame. It made him a second-round pick in the 2010 draft, one that some teams thought was talented enough to go in the first.

It also made him complacent.

"They [seahawks coaches and teammates] didn't know which Golden they were going to get," he said. "Am I going to get the Golden who's going to play hard, who's going to execute what I coach him? Or am I going to get the Golden who's caught up in college, just out there out-athleting people?

"So I've been trying very, very hard just to prove to the coaches, the organization and T-Jack that I'm going to do this the way you want me to do it, and it's worked out."

The 20 catches Tate has made so far this season suggests marginal improvement from the 21 he caught as a rookie. But his progression has been greater than those totals would indicate.

His role has been reduced by the addition of Rice and the emergence of Doug Baldwin, but Tate has made plays when he's been called upon. Two of his three touchdowns this season have come in the last two weeks while playing in place of Rice. He caught two critical passes on the final drive of a Week 10 win over the Ravens.

"He'll do whatever we give him chances to do," coach Pete Carroll said. "This is what we see in practice all the time, we just haven't got him in there as much to give him the focal point opportunities. ... It's great to see Golden; we're just going to keep doing it.

"He's really special. He makes plays, so we have to keep giving it to him."

Anyone rolling with Golden this week? I picked him up for Miles Austin insurance on Sunday night since Tate plays Monday, but thinking of plugging him in over Decker and Aromashodu (Desperate AJ owner).

I am but my other choices aren't exactly world beaters. Starting him over Breaston (Palko sucks) and Vincent Brown (Floydd back probably reduces his targets)

got him in over burleson and manningham...right now anyways

Picked up Golden Tate as a safety valve play just in case Miles Austin suffers a set back in the late game and doesn't play. Tate is the Best WR going in that Monday night game.

I didn't want to fire up a new thread but I wanted to know what the SP is thinking in Dynasty.

A. Won't be a starter in 2013

B. Will start in 2013 but beyond looks shaky

C. Safe to feel he will be starting for the next 3-4 years in Seattle or somewhere

D. Has the makings of being a solid starting WR for the next 5-7 years.

Or anything else you want to chime in with about him. I gambled nd put him on the roster last season, pleasantly surprised but he has made his mark with TDs. He is only 5-10, not sure he is WR1 on an NFL team type or always a role player with some upside.

Take it for what it's worth but Tate, RW and both of their wives are best of friends. I think his production this year is tied to that. In addition other than Rice, there are no other WR options.

Tate will see the ball a lot going forward.

I follow the Seahawks very closely. I have for a lot of years (since 81). This just makes me scratch my head and wonder...Wilson is a quality citizen. Of all the Seahawks we had roll through the uniform he may be one of the most mature and well grounded young men I've had the privilege to observe. Tate is almost the opposite. He's immature, and I constantly fear that he's going to do something childish on the football field. Is Wilson not the angel we all want him to be?Is Tate not the petulant kid that I think he is?Perhaps a middle ground? I don't know.

Had him since he was a rookie. Tate is getting close, loving the flashes. That TD catch last week jumped out.
Yea, that TD catch last week... and the screen he got where he clowned several defenders, is what I saw when I drafted him as a rook. Particularly the TD catch and the way he got UP for it and high pointed it.

They both were drafted to play baseball... both played college ball in the midwest... both have blonde girlfriends... both are kind of "whitewashed" black guys who probably have a white or half white parent. They seem to have a lot in common. I also wouldn't be surprised if it didn't happen 100% organically. Could've been arranged by coaches or maybe Russell himself even decided he would spend some time and try to rub off on him. Like how they said he leaves his WR's notes in their lockers prepping them for stuff they're going to work on that is opponent specific for that week. Something about their tendencies or something. Maybe that's just another way in which he prepares.
