Golden Tate (1 Viewer)

From Rotoworld:

Golden Tate will be the Seahawks' starting split end in Week 2.

Braylon Edwards might rotate in over the course of the game, but Tate will get the nod with the first-stringers. It's hard to imagine investing in any Seattle pass catchers Sunday against Dallas, but the Seahawks' coaching staff clearly wants Tate to succeed. He's worth keeping an eye on for fantasy pickup purposes.

He came on a little at the end of last year and Wilson should be able to extend plays with his feet. I could see him being PPR relevant. Thoughts?

I liked him at draft time and took a late-round flyer on him as a rookie. Obviously that didn't last long.

I'm not in any dynasties so I can't comment there, but I have had an eye on him for the last 2 years and he's a fixture on my watch list.

I haven't kept up on him much so I'd love to hear some information from Hawks homers...

I just don't see much value in Tate. He barely won the job in camp without much competition other than Braylon, who will be on the field still a lot (they've said they will rotate them). This team is going to rely on their defense and running game. Sidney Rice has value, certainly, but I think Tate's value is pretty much just replacement player level - lots of guys like him on the waiver wire unless you are in a really deep league. He's small and not that dynamic, really. I think the staff wants to see if he can hold down the job and perform as a WR2 in the NFL at all. They'll move on without him after the season if he doesn't step up. I would be surprised if he does.

He will be going against a much improved Dallas secondary.

In addition to Carr and Claiborne, Mike Jenkins will return from off season shoulder surgery.

I am not optimistic about his chances this week.

Was tempted to take a flyer on him just to name my team the Golden Tate Warriors, but just don't see a lot of upside; he's on waiver wires all of the leagues that I am in and no one seems to be in a rush to grab him. To me it's a "sit back and wait" situation.

I agree. If the passing game improves, he or Braylen may become fantasy relevant, but right now it's questionable if Sidney Rice (the current #1 in Seattle) is fantasy relevant.so I dont see a ton of upside unless the light turns on for Wilson at QB. I'm thinking that could take at least 1/2 a season. There is no urgency in picking this guy up yet. If you have room to spare on your roster, then go ahead, but I wouldnt worry about it just yet.

He had the job from day 1. He didnt barely win it. He got injured. I will agree that Tate is unproven like the entire Sea offense. But im willing to bet he is better by end of season than any WR there if i count the chance that Rice has been healthy one season out of 6.Also who said they will rotate them, hope you are not quoting Rotoworld. I believe if Tate was healthy there would be little more than normal starter/backup rotation.

If you have a roster space grab him, but this week I would say no. He is going against a better Cowboys secondary, he is coming off an injury, and the Seahawks seem to but the training wheels on for Wilson for the first week.

I dissagree. He's dynamic....his issue is consistancy. He is great at RAC, will make the spectacular grab to tease you, but needs to run better routes and needs to make the simple play.

Tate's stats from last year remind me of Antonio Brown's stats before his breakout year. I believe it's a high possibility that he'll be one of those players who sits on your waiver wire for a few weeks and then out of nowhere his value skyrockets. Obviously this is highly dependent on Wilson's development. I'll be watching both closely.

I think he reminds me of Hines Ward. He's nowhere close to Hines when it comes to ball skills (yet at least) but he has that tenacity and fearlessness that Hines made a career off of.

Carroll on Golden Tate after the game yesterday:

“You can see that he needs to get the ball more,” said Carroll. “He’s on fire. He is so electric with the ball. We have to find more ways to get him the football. You get the ball in his hands and something good looks like it’s going to happen.

At some point Golden Tate can be a valuable player to have on your roster.

Is that point now after 4 TD's in 2 games?

Bye plus tough matchups with CHI & SF, but also matchups 12 @ MIA, 14 ARI, and 15 @ BUF.

Would you rather have Tate or Denario Alexander? Both of them are probably on waivers.
Tate's on a bye this week, so Alexander for week 11. ;) Go forward, I still like Alexander better in Standard leagues. I just think SD's offense may start clicking again. Seattle's going to play defensive battles in their division with the offense relying on Beast Mode.
