good ol'boy wade phillips was a lousy coach with the buffalo bills and he is still a lousy coach with a much better team, the dallas cowboys. there is no way that the new york giants should have won that game. period. congrats to the giants and tom c. they outplayed and outcoached the cowboys, big time in the second half. the cowboys looked like an entirely different team that came out of the locker-room for the second half. and that i lay on the coaching staff. jerry jones, you're crazy for keeping wade another year.

Should dungy get fired too for his team losing to Norvs chargers?

This idea that you fire a 13-3 coach for losing a playoff game is beyond ridiculous. Compare how the Boys played this year than at any point under Parcells and I just don't see how Wade SHOULD be under fire in any way, shape or form. That said...if what I'm hearing is true, Baltimore is going to go HARD today/tomorrow for Garrett and that may force Jones' hand IF he thinks Garrett is the next great NFL coach.

Jerry Jones should do what is right for the long term good for the team. If he believes garrett is the future then he should make the move. Successful teams have to make successful decisions. If I was a Cowboys fan, I would probably rather have Garett in charge than Philips. the Rams were in a similar situation with Vermeil and Martz and kind of forced Vermeil out. That ended up being the wrong move IMO.

Cowher lost a lot of big playoff games and look how he turned out. You don't fire good coaches because they lost playoff games due to no fault of their coaching. The "He can't win in the playoffs" mindset is the biggest myth in coaching. Every coach that gets the team in the position to win is good enough to win it. It just takes some time and luck.

what has phillips won as a head coach? granted dallas went 13-3, but i would wager the cowboys would have had an outstanding record this year regardless who was the head coach. parcells built that team, not wade. the replies that compare the situation with cowher and dungy are ridiculous.

He's not going anywhere, so it doesn't matter. Hopefully Garrett gets a fat raise and sticks around. Although I was NOT pleased with Red's play calling yesterday at all.

What had Norv Turner done as a head coach until this post season? What had Mike McCarthy done as a head coach until this year? What had Tom Coughlin done as a Giant except be perceived as a lame duck and most likely coach to be fired? If Parcells built the team, he sure wasn't getting as much out of them as this crew has. If anything, Jerry Jones deserves the credit because he targeted Garrett BEFORE they had a head coach in place.

Wade Phillips has benefitted primarily from three things IMHO:1) another year of the same core of players being together and playing largely in the same system; 2) tweaking the same 3-4 defensive scheme that Parcells ran to make it the more aggressive attacking version he ran in San Diego; and3) Garrett opening up the offense to make it more of an attacking offense too.The first is attributable to Parcells, the second to Phillips, and the third to Jones. This isn't an all or nothing analysis.

I hope they keep as much of this coaching staff as they can. They called a pretty crappy game but still could have won.

I thought going into the season that the Cowboys were a few players away from making a run.

I am a horrible Cowboys homer but I think if the Cowboys had managed to win this week that they would have been blown out by the Packers. Hurts to say that but I think it is true.

The Eagles aren't going anywhere next year. The Giants might be just as good next year. The Redskins are going to be better without Gibbs next year. The NFC East is going to be tough to win in yet again next year.

The Cowboys better have a good off season, that is all I can say.

I hate the fact that Jerry Jones will be calling all the shots during the draft again. That could really hurt. How many of the players that they drafted this year made any impact at all? I rarely heard Spencer's name called even once this season. He was a non factor. I cant think of one guy that was drafted this past season that made any type of impact.

Spencer was fine. He didn't see a lot of playing time once Ellis returned. There is nothing horribly wrong with the front 7 of this defense. The secondary needs addressing big time. They could lose Hamlin in FA, Roy sucks, Henry is servicable and Reeves gets torched as the 3rd Corner.

This is what is interesting to me.....what the Dallas management really thinks of Garrett. In no way shape or form do I think Wade Phillips deserves to be fired or anything like that for losing that game. But I heard (just a rumor of course) that Garrett is basically going to be groomed to be the next Dallas head coach. Phillips is getting older and will probably only coach a couple more years and that Garrett if he keeps up the good work would be the next head coach of the Cowboys. Now, I guess if that's kind of true....then the ball is also back in Garrett's hands. He has a great relationship with Tony Romo...is it good enough for him to maybe wait around 2 more years? How much does he like coaching with the Cowboys?I don't know these answers but I can speak for myself. I love the Cowboys and if I was told I could pretty much be the head coach in a couple years and I got along great with a young QB already I'd probably stick around. Garrett is young enough where he doesn't have to take off and go coach.....he's got years and years of coaching in front of him.I'd like Jerry Jones to be up front with Garrett, tell him how much he means to the team and his future plans for him and let Garrett make a decision based upon that. If he chooses to go to Baltimore or anywhere else knowing all of that, then good riddens..... I mean good luck! /joking

That "waiting around" thing sounds good on paper but rarely works real well in practice.Things change too quickly in the NFL.The Cowboys will be a very different team in 2010 than they were in 2007. Romo will no longer be a "young QB". Owens may be spent or at best living of his past press clippings (a la Jerry Rice's last few year). Marion Barber takes more "hits" per carry than RB that I've ever seen with the possible exception of Earl Campbell. The O-line will be different (more likely to be weaker, not stronger, just based upon regression to the mean theory) in 2010 than in 2007.Garrett is a "hot assistant" today. No guarantee at all that he is a "hot assistant" 12 months from now. He is not Bill Cowher he has no resume upon which to assuredly get NFL head coaching gigs if for some reason the Cowboys start to backslide next year. Frankly, I think that the jury is still out on Garrett anyway as over the past month the Boys seemed much too quick to abandon the running game and start lettting Romo sling the ball all around frequently putting them in bad "down and distance" situations.

You can't fire a coach who led a team to an unexpectedly-good 13-3 record and a first round playoff bye.

Jerry Jones is a great Businessman and engineers great trades but he sucks when it comes to evaluating NFL talent. If he could understand this the Cowboys would be better off but he lets his ego get in the way. But it is his team and his money so he can do what he wants. The bottom line is win or lose the Cowboys make a ton of money for him.

They already have a new process in place to eliminate the "one voice" on draft day. They take their grade from the consesus scores of the 6 top scouts. There was an article about it recently. Will try to find. Jerry has guilty of meddling in the past, however, I believe he has really changed for the better since Parcells arrived.

Some are number 1 guys and some are number 2 guys. Wade Phillips is a number 2 guy and always has been. He's a decent coordinator with a headset right now. It's laughable that he received coach of the year votes this season.

Tell that to the Chargers...
I'm saying it's a bad idea. Disagree?
No, of course not. I said as much earlier in this thread. I think it's asinine to even think about firing Phillips; but I'm not running the Cowboys.
Jerry has already said Wade will be back. It's time to start holding the players accountable. Too many players on this team fold under pressure (and Romo is not one of them...imo). This team needs to address:Corner (Jacques Reeves is terrible).....Hopefully through the draft.FS- Hamlin will be tough to re-sign. Would cause a hole to be filled. SS-Roy is a disaster and has NO heart and can't tackle or cover. The cap hit is 6.6 mil to cut him. WR-Need a competent WR2 to compliment TO.....Crayton is a barely servicable WR3 material. Draft or trade for Fitz/Chad/RWRB-Re-Sign Barber/Jones walks....draft someone in the 2nd round (This is a seep RB pool this year)ILB-Akin is not the answer
