Just watched the last 45 mins this morning on HBO. Honestly, I thought it was terrible, much worse than I remembered and a pale imitation of goodfellas.
Imitation of Goodfellas? They arent remotely similar besides being involving the mob and being crime dramas.
Casino is a great movie. Period.
Goodfellas is comfortably my favorite movie, and Sharon Stoney's character is so terrible, it ruined the movie for me

Both great movies.

Casino just ####### drags, on and on and on....
Agree with this. The Stone character gets very tiresome. Goodfellas is flawless.
It's tiresome because the character is so reprehensible, but stone is so good in the role.
Yes, she was great at being irritating. Not her fault she did what the role called for. But after you've seen Casino for the first two dozen times or so, her scenes in the second half of the movie can be fast-forwarded through without much regret.

This is kind of where I stand. I know she gave a good performance in portraying that type of person but the character is just so detestable it ruins the movie almost. I've grown to tolerate her the more I watch it.

Voted Goodfellas. I played Yahoo texas hold em and spades in 98-99 and my screen name was Jim_The_Gent. Cant remember why i didnt use jimmy but it either could have been taken or i prefered jim, not sure. I loved casino and donnie brasco also. Read all the books after watching the movies. I cant remember going to the theatre for any of them but hope/wish i did. Seen them all so many times i just dont know. Alcohol and other things also cloud my memory. Anyway, Goodfellas will always be in my top 5 movies. It use to be number one but over the years ive added others. i agree with others that not alot of mob movies stand out since but the Departed was great. Im not sure how i missed this thread but enjoyed reading everyone's thoughts on everything. Can't wait to see either movie again for what i think would be the 100th time.

Bunch of sexists in here. When the hell have any of you complained about a movie being ruined by a detestable male character????? Huh? Huh?

I actually think I prefer The Departed to both Casino and Goodfellas. Certainly a testament of just loving the former that much, nothing against the latter.

I like both Goodfellas and Casino more than any Godfather movie as well, so not like I expect either to be the norm.

Both great movies.

She's not even the most reprehensible character in the movie
The guy who complimented Ginger on being so gorgeous?

I was thinking Al, the guy who gambled away the heat money

Character development isn't the strong part of this movie. The characters are basically others drawn from Scorsese's previous films. DeNiro and Pesci had worked together so many times before this that they could make this lame script work. The script didn't give Stone much range because she isn't that good of an actress. "Hey, let's make her stoned post the Woods beating scene". They could had given that same role to Annette Bening, and she would had added more to it.

Stone's best work was in Total Recall and Basic Instinct anyway. She was younger, hotter, more physical, sexier and had a horrid leading man in Ahnold. Jeebus, she had to work with a Joe Ezterhas script in BI. RN can probably attest to better scripts on a Digital Playground release than Ezterhas' one in Showgirls. She was a mess in "Gloria", post Casino, where given her post roles in mob movies such as Casino and her being the wife of Steven Segal basically made you remember why you never put her in the same sentence as Gena Rowlands. Which I did. Weird.

Casino is not near Goodfellas, and no where near Scorcese's best work. It's not a "great film, period". Not even in the top 20 of all time mob movies.

BTW, Casino, If this may not has been posted already, is one of the top 5 movies that use the F-word, all time. If it used the N-Word in place of that, then Jdog would call this Tarantino's greatest.

I woke up yesterday around 3am and couldn't get back to sleep so I watched Casino. It is a good movie but definitely not in the same tier for me as Godfather I/II, The Departed and Goodfellas. De Niro as a Jew seemed a stretch and I think Sharon Stone is very annoying especially in the second half of the movie.

One part of the movie that really stood out to me was after they talked about Ace seeing all the angles of running a casino better than anyone he refuses to hire back the BIL of the county commission guy. Even a job further down the trough. Seems to me he should have known it in his best interest to stick the guy somewhere because if he saw all the angles he would have to know this would come back to bite him.

My vote is Tony Dogs, who shot up that bar (including that waitress who was working on her night off of all things) and took all that torture to protect Charlie ####### M.

Really? Casino and Goodfellas always struck me as being pretty much the same movie in different settings.
Just looks that way because of Scorcese/DeNiro/Pesci. While I think it was perfectly casted, it was so close to Goodfellas that there was no way that wasn't going to be an issue for some.

I've seen Casino twice and thought it was middling both times -- much better than a summer blockbuster, but I wouldn't even put in the same universe as Goodfellas. Sorry, but that whole film just reeked of somebody trying to remake Goodfellas.

There is somewhat of a pattern here. Sharon Stone ruined Casino, Carmella and Janice ruined Sopranos, Margaret "what about the kids" Schroder ruins Boardwalk
