Gotham - a show about Batman without any actual uhhh...Batman (1 Viewer)

I also like the little things they've done, like having one of the Joker's thugs from The Dark Knight show up earlier this season as part of the arc that Joker came back in, as well as the fact that Ben McKenzie was the voice of Batman in the Year One cartoon movie.
That's not the only callback. Blossom's brother was a goon in a movie and one of Butch's guys.

This show is really fantastic. They walk the cannon/original line very well. They also constantly nail the gray lines and the villain vs villain stuff.

Dumb episode last night (Chiklis in a rubber suit  ) but this season has been very good overall.  Anything with Bruce, Selina, or Alfred is gold and I've quite enjoyed Jim this season as well as Ivy, Harvey, Lucius, and Barbara/Tabitha/Butch.

OMG Tabitha is so ####### hot!

Yeah, really liking this season. One more episode before the 2 part/2 hour season finale.

You would have to ask.

I think that for what it is, it's well done and whoever is making this show go seems to have a good way of paying homage to the Batman world.
Some of the stuff is horrible - the executioner was over the top but I guess that's them just having fun with it.

Alfred is probably my favorite character.
Yep.  Alfred, selina, and Harvey rock.

Yep. Really like the ed/oz arc although at first I didn't.  I'm hoping for less of an outright war and more awkward collaboration.

Curious to see what happens with Lee. She has some issues which are understandable with Jim but the scene with her and hatter was gold.

Enjoying most of the finale so far but... Why do they keep bringing Fish back.. the speech ........ pattern... growl... is.......... beyond...... growl .... annoying :wall:

Please... PLEASE let that be the last time she ever shows up.

That was good!

As always my favorite stuff was anything involving Bruce, Alfred and Selina, as well as Jim & Harvey.

Fish - please, please, please, please be dead.

Lee/Morena Baccarin - please, please, please, please be gone for good, and don't show up on another show that I like.  (Sorry; just can't stand her.  Ironically this was the only thing she's very been in where I actually enjoyed her performance - until she started wailing about Marioooooooooo nonstop and then ineffectively vamping it up under the influence of the virus.)

Bruce at the end!!!!!!!!  YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So is it okay now to remark on how hot Selina and Ivy are?  :oldunsure:   If not, I'll just go on about Tabby.  Floved her scene with Selina at the end.

Mazouz claimed that Harley Quinn would show up but unless her origin story somehow begins with her being electrocuted, looks like not.  That would be a good use of Erin Richards, though.

I enjoyed seeing Dr. Bashir (Alexander Siddig) as Ra's.  Thought he was excellent and done well.

So Butch is

Solomon Grundy
Interesting!

Except for the nonsense involved in reincarnating Jerome, this was a very good season.

The "joker" reincarnation was bad.. and yet, we need the Joker!!!  My guess his schedule for Gotham conflicted with Shameless.. With Shameless getting renewed for a 8th season the Joker appearance maybe limited again.

Agree on Lee.. Good character until the whole "I don't love you Jim, I love Mario.. No you killed Mario.. I'm drinking Virus now" fiasco.. Maybe time away will help..

:hifive: on the Fish comment...

The only part I didn't care for was the removal of the ski mask at the end.. Like anyone watching needed it to be removed to know who it was.. Seemed the producers/director decided they needed to pound watchers over the head with the obvious.

Otherwise, the show really picked up this season and I am looking forward to the return.

Yeah, I just couldn't get past everyone associated with the cult cackling maniacally every 30 seconds.  Just painful.

If they do make Barbara into HQ that would check the Joker box for next season.

I really like this show.

I actually finally sat down and watched the Dark Knight trilogy for the first time over the last 3 days. The third was easily the best IMO.

Like enough what I've seen so far this season, but I'm a little worried; this episode was written by the guy that play Gordon on the show. Maybe he's that much of a Batman aficionado that he can pull it off. Gotta say,  so far so good. Or at least no dropoff from previous episodes.

Just finished Season 3. I love this show.

I love how it looks. I love that it makes you root for the villains even though they're still...uh...villainous.

Flash and Arrow were both great for two seasons and then jumped the shark (I'm starting a new one - clubbed the Glenn). Gotham keeps getting better.

As a side like not important to probably anyone - the BluRays of this show are awesome. They look 4k.

I’ve been entertained by it and it’s easily the most gruesome non-cable network show I can remember. Countless times I’ve thought to myself ‘did they really just do that?’ Maybe those moments carry some extra weight being on Fox because I doubt I’d think twice about it if it was on HBO or even AMC

My only complaint about it is the good guys all too often have what I call righttimerightplaceitis. I find that tiresome after a while, but otherwise it’s solid

This weeks episode was quite good...

Although I have had enough of the Bruce Self-loathing part.. Need someone. other then Alfred, to kick his bleep so that angle can be put to rest.

Agreed.

Too bad Sabrina isn't a good candidate right now.

Flash and Supergirl are enjoyable imo. Not great TV but fun to watch. I don't really like the 4 part crossovers though as I don't record are arrow (I record legends but don't watch anymore)

For me, this whole season has maintained a good level, but I agree about the angle they chose with Bruce.  I think it had to be done, but it seemed forced, and should have been more 'glamorous' if that makes sense.  Also didn't like how the fight between him and Alfred ended.  It seemed clear that Bruce was out for blood when they went at it, but one punch to the face and he just stops? I thought that was the kind of fight he was looking for.  I also get Alfred's regret at the punch, but I would have liked to have seen a little more of a pause from him in that moment, to throw in a little internal conflict on his part.

Didn't think I was going to like the Grundy subplot, but I think it was pretty well done, and even though he actually fits the tone of the show, I hope it ends with Butch and Tabby back together after all.

Also, I think they still undercut the full impact of the Pyg/Falcone arc. It may be a case where the writers put themselves cut corners in plot development and tried to get there too quickly. Pyg showing up with Sophia at the end should have been a more 'shocking' reveal but if anything, that whole scene seemed kind of flat, even with how it ended.

Finally, good choice of preview scenes for when they resume; looks like things are going to get a little wild.

I know I'm late to the but he's leaving Shameless with Emma Rossi. I believe the last season was both their final or the year after. SHaemless is loosing a lot of their main characters from what I read

And this is the last season of Gotham so looks like he'll be free for a possible Joker spin off. :oldunsure:

Glad I've stayed with this show. It has consistently packed more storytelling into each episode than any network show I've seen in a long time.

:goodposting: .. Too bad this is the last season. :(
I think it would run up against much of what's already been told about Batman, and this way it ends on a high note. I think these writers have done a good enough job that I would give future efforts a chance, whatever they may be.

Yea, I agree that you want to go out on a high note and not get to a point where people are clamoring for it to end, aka Walking Dead..

Here's to hoping the writers and directors stick together for a new series as they've done a great job with the show. :banned:

My dad got me into old-time radio, and many of those shows were good at telling a lot of story in a small amount of time.  This show has reminded me of that.  I wasn't a big fan of how this season started; a lot more shootouts/explosions than the quasi-crime noir that is the essence of Batman, but the last two episodes especially have been even a notch higher than what they've been able to achieve on the show before. I don't know if the story/characters from last night were already cannon, but the it was a tight, fairly tense episode with a definite noir ending.  Fills in just the right amount of missing background for Bullock.
