Nice to know that this local beat reporter has the scoop on this one.it'll be interesting what the terms of the detail are. as of about noon today, KFFL was reporting thisackers | No end in sight in Grant sagaSat, 2 Aug 2008 12:44:53 -0700Bob McGinn, of the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel, reports Green Bay Packers RB Ryan Grant's agent is looking for a six-year, $40 million deal for his client. Because of Grant's limited resume, the Packers find the proposal to be too rich for their blood. Sources have noted Grant's proposal includes $8.5 million over the first two years of the deal, compared to the Packers' offer of about $4.5 million. Grant has been away from training camp for a week now and there is no end in sight. Grant's agent, Alan Herman, said a little bit of progress was made earlier in the week, but noted it still is not where they thought it would be. "For a team with $30 million worth of cap space, and Ryan's ability, I thought we would be much further along," Herman said. The proposal has a series of performance based incentives within it, and one source noted Grant would need to gain more than 2,000 yards in either of the next two seasons in order for him to have a shot at the $40 million
Not enough money to completely rule out the Brandon Jackson momentum.
Unless Grant flops or gets hurt, Jackson isn't going to be a serious factor. Grant showed last season he's considerably more talented than Jackson and the coaching staff is firmly in his corner as the starter. He's the guy. As long as he doesn't get injured or flop, the job will be his.Not enough money to completely rule out the Brandon Jackson momentum.
From a contractual standpoint....not a talent comparison.Eric Stratton said:King of the Jungle said:Not enough money to completely rule out the Brandon Jackson momentum.Performance will rule out the Brandon Jackson momentum.
Possibly. It will depend on Rogers performance. If he is usefull , then RG can be a good #2 RB, possibly a top 10 RB againHe had the 9th most td's of RB's last year, but only began starting in week 8 - That's a pretty good set of stats. BJ will be the change of pace back, keep Grant fresh. He will eat some stats of grants, but I see no reason to think anything but a good shot at ending up 10/11 in the RB listGrant will do just fine for GB, won't be a stud everyone thinks he is
LOL at all the people earlier this week jumping all over the Packers and Ted Thompson when Grant's agent said $1.75M was "insulting." No doubt the first extension offered was entirely performanced based as well.Good job by the agent to play the media and the Brett Farve issues to squeeze a little more out of the negotiation. The Packers started out offering only a $1.75 million signing bonus, but Herman was able to negotiate a deal that will pay Grant a $3 million roster bonus when he signs the contract and another $1.25 million through base salary ($750,000) and another roster bonus ($500,000).

3 mill roster bonus for a starting RB is joke.LOL at all the people earlier this week jumping all over the Packers and Ted Thompson when Grant's agent said $1.75M was "insulting." Sure, because McCarthy's going to say, "Send in Grant- no, wait, he's getting too many carries and the team may have to pay him more, so send in Morency."The way the deal is structured it also give the Packers even more incentive to use a RBBC style. Keep Grant at around 250 carries and let the other backs split up the rest.
""If Grant rushes for 1,500 yards this year, he will earn another $4 million 2009, Herman said. If he only rushes for 1,000 yards he would earn an additional $1 million.""can the players union get involved if his numbers are artificially deflated when nearing the end of the year if about to make the extra $3M?or would the packers actually show some good PR by saying they'll go ahead and pay him he $3M extra for his 1400 yards in 15 games so they can rest him for the playoffs?
It's week 17, and the Packers have earned a first round bye. Grant has 1398 yards. The Packers decide to rest all of their starters. Or, it's week 12, and Grant has been on a tear. He already has 1100 yards on the season. At the end of the game, he pulls up a little lame, so the Packers decide to rest him for a couple weeks. Or, it's week 15, and Grant has been a workhorse all season, racking up 1250 yards so far, but slowing down a little towards the end of the season. Jackson has a good game in relief, and the Packers decide to let Jackson run a little more. Or, Grant performs well on first and second downs, but Jackson gets the third and long carries, and is asked to run it out at the end of blowouts. All of those seem reasonable.""If Grant rushes for 1,500 yards this year, he will earn another $4 million 2009, Herman said. You're arguing that McCarthy is going to sit a 1400-yard rusher when the chips are down just so that the team doesn't have to pay him a bonus? Do you really think the team would be that worried about $2M during a successful season? Seriously?

There is also the possibility that the Packers don't make the playoffs and Grant still manages to put up decent numbers. Tampa Bay rested starters last year for the express purpose of not having to pay them performance bonuses. Not a thing to do to inspire confidence in your players but strange things can happen.Everyone remember the year Shaun Alexander lost out on the rushing title by 1 yard? It's week 17, and the Packers have earned a first round bye.
