Great Guitarists in Pop Rock Bands (1 Viewer)

The Pretenders had a pair of rock-solid guitarists. James Honeyman-Scott played on the the band's first two full albums and an EP. He died of cocaine-induced heart failure (a la Len Bias) at age 25 in 1982. Robbie McIntosh, a friend of Honeyman-Scott's, replaced him in the Pretenders and stayed with the band until 1987.

Good call. For awhile in the early years, it was dangerous to be a member of the Pretenders.

I agree that Honeyman-Scott was pretty damn great. But no way would I call the Pretenders "pop rock". Same goes for Dire Straits.

Agree with your calls.

A few others that come to mind immediately:

Neil Geraldo - Pat Benatar (not a band per se, but awesome guitarist)
I think he also was with Rick Springfield during his Jessie's Girl days.Solid player for sure.
Springfield's guitarist was Tim Pierce. He's a great guitarist, as is Geraldo.
Says here that Giraldo was on that album with Springfield.

Another interesting note was Sammy Hagar wrote a song on that album as well.

Interesting to see that Robben Ford played on that album as well. Well, there's my 'learn something new' for today.
