Great sports towns with absolutely no shared history (1 Viewer)

How many towns have great fanbases but have no common history?

For example, Baltimore and St. Louis seem to have no major events in common. They never met in the World Series or Super Bowl. Their teams play in different conferences so they never met in the playoffs.

Denver and Philadelphia are another.

LOL.

The St. Louis Browns became the Baltimore Orioles.

Baltimore and St. Louis were both finalists for an NFL expansion team in 1993. Proposed uniform designs

The Baltimore Orioles used to be the St. Louis Browns.

The Baltimore Bullets played the St. Louis Hawks in the 1965 and 1966 NBA playoffs.

The Rockies beat the Phillies in the 2007 NL Divisional Series and lost to them in 2009.

San Diego vs Anybody/Everybody.

Besides the Padres vs Atlanta, Chicago, New York, Detroit - SD has never won a championship in any major pro sport.

Pretty sure Sydney, Australia and Kansas City never played one another in a 'meaningful game'.

Nantucket and Brussels have little history with one another

Jerusalem and Paris have the Crusades but nothing substantial since then.

Detroit has had its share of history with pretty much all the other big sports towns.

Is Houston a big sports town? If so, I would submit Detroit vs Houston.

Gordie Howe retired from the Detroit Red Wings and joined the Houston Aeros of the WHA. Those wounds run pretty deep.

The only thing that helped was that Gordie was about 60 years old when he did it.
Scored 100 points his first year in the WHA.

Like shooting your age in reverse.

Forgot the AFC Championship game vs the Bengals eh?

And the Super Bowl where the 49ers smoked 'em.

And the fact that LA stole the Clippers (who San Diego stole from Buffalo).

(Okay stealing the Clippers from the San Diego may be a bit strong).

Pfft, fail on my part.

This is a pretty tough question, I guess almost every town has had a team make it to the championship level in some sport.
