Greatest MLB Baseball Draft (1 Viewer)

18.13 Luke Appling- Util IF
Finally. Why the frick wasn't this guy picked among the top half of the SS crop?
After careful consideration, and taking into account the low priority placed on defense in this draft, I have decided to put Appling in at starting SS and move Ozzie Smith to Utility IF. That's right, I drafted my utility IF in the 7th round.
interesting move. i had those 2 guys rated about even. they're the yin and yang of shortstops, with Appling having about as much value with his bat as Ozzie had with his glove, and vice versa (which is not the same as saying that Appling was as good a hitter as Ozzie was a fielder). Appling never was better than average in the field, but i think he was better than his high error totals would suggest. Ozzie, by contrast, was obviously a transcendent fielder from the get-go, but was no better than replacement level at the plate for his first few years, and didn't become better than average until his 30s.

i think the timer decision at the end was a poor one, but i hope people just come in and make their picks to finish this thing up.

Our Final pick--Rikishiboy/rcmcaz select Lindy McDaniels as our middle reliever.

We will try and put forth our applicable years and our line-up in the next few days.

OF Utility:

Goose Goslin

Nice stick off the bench

career averages of: .316/.387/.500 OPS+ of 128

11 seasons of 100+ RBIs, top 10 in MVP voting 3X, Hall of Famer

Manager:

Miller Huggins

Won six pennants, three world championships, finished with 1400+ wins and a .555 winning percentage

In managing the mighty Yankee teams of the 20s, he demonstrated the ability to manage and win with premier talent

Set Up Guy:

Steve Howe, LHP

Guy battled demons his entire career, but at his best he was a really good pitcher

Rookie of the Year, 1X All Star

.534 winning %, 3.03 career ERA, Career ERA+ of 129, k/BB ratio of 2.36/1

In his peak 7 seasons he had a 2.08 ERA with a .98 WHIP and a 193 ERA+

Will be a great lefty complement to Sutter out of the pen in short relief

Long Reliever:

Red Faber, RHP

Won 254 games with a .544 winning % for teams that finished in the bottom half of their league in 16 of his 20 seasons

Led the league in ERA twice, WHIP twice, and ERA+ twice

Came out of the pen in 28% of his career games

Hall of Famer

After I thought about it afterwards, I agree with you, but by then it was too late. However, I EXTREMELY doubt it will affect the out come.I will update the 2nd post now.

FWIW, Steve Howe will ranot have to be heavily relied upon - I see hall of famer Faber in a lot of relief appearances in big moments. He should have been drafted a while back imo. Plus, we have a five man rotation of big inning guys. We could easily go with a 3-3.5 man rotation, so expect a lot of bullpen appearences by our starters, most of whom have some experience in the pen to begin with, especially back in the day when you would start Tuesday, relieve Thursday, Start Friday type deal.

Peak Howe was the real deal thoughNeed a good lefty in the pen against the big lefty bats

No doubt. But we also have two hall of famers at the end of our rotation, along with Lefty Gomez, to get some relief innings... and Faber is a HoFer as well.Tough being this loaded at pitching :sarcasm:

i'd like to say that i'll be able to do a writeup on my team along with the 7 years i'd use for each player, but this week has turned out to be way more hectic than i thought it would.

we'll see
