Green Bay @ Broncos (1 Viewer)

wow, what a terrible non call

Jones took a forearm to the chest, pushed him ofb -

second time, then they called it

First pass was nice, good touch, Jones beat him like a rented mule

Packers-Broncos wrap up

Denver - A few quick things before we call it a night:

* Coach Mike McCarthy said of all the injuries to the four starters -- Josh Sitton, Nick Collins, Atari Bigby and James Jones -- Sitton's was the most serious. He has a left knee injury that trainer Pepper Buress wrapped heavily before Sitton boarded the team bus. He didn't use crutches or anything. Sitton said the team will do more tests on Saturday.

* Collins had a neck stinger thanks to the helmet of Daniel Muir. Collins said he is fine and will "no doubt" be ready to go next week, but this should be watched. The Packers have always been cautious with stingers.

* Bigby rolled his right ankle but he wasn't sure how serious it was. When asked if he would be ready for the season-opener, Bigby said, "I hope so."

* Jones is fine. Just banged knees. That's what Charles Woodson did as well.

Some quotes from McCarthy:

* I thought it was more important for the offense to play a lot better. The QB position has a lot to do with that. I thought Aaron Rodgers had a very good night. He was sharp, he managed the offensive tempo. Obviously he was smart with the football and was very good on third down. I thought it was important for our offense to come out and establish some tempo and have some productivity early in the game. We were able to continue that for four quarters.

* There were things that went wrong last week and that was enough for everyone. This week we played at a lot higher level. We were more physical, our pad level was down. We pass protected better. We made good decisions. We passed the ball and caught the ball better. We didn't play very well last week and we played a lot better this week. Anytime you win a game it's important to recognize the successes that are hard to achieve in this league regardless of what time of year you win.

* On Denver's 99-yard drive: "The big drive was disappointing. The strength of our defense has always been third down. We weren't as sharp as we have been and we need to tackle better. That's two weeks in a row that our run defense was not as good as it has been. Getting off the field on third down is the strength of our defense. We're better than we showed on that drive. We'll learn from it."

Brohm really looks bad so far. The Packers better be looking for a backup because if Rodgers gets hurt, they are done.
I still think they'll bring in somebody like Craig Nall to serve as Rodgers' backup. He already knows the system. But for now I think they want to see Brohm and Flynn get as many snaps as possible.

Is Scheffler hurt? I didn't see him tonight.
:X
I was reading the nfl.com play-by-play last night for info on the Young-Hall carry breakdown, and saw at least one attempt made to Scheffler, so unless the scorer got it wrong, then he was playing.
I am a little miffed at his lack of targets even though it is pre-season. I may have to cut Scheffler if the last game does not show some targets. Crap, and I thought I had a sleeper TE.

Scheffler played, he had one sorta drop on a quick out and I saw him blocking a couple times, but while the ones were out there it seemed like he was splitting with Nate Jackson.

don't read too much into it. Scheffler had many targets from Cutler the past two seasons. He's also had many targets during camp. One thing I learned very quickly. Don't get too jumpy and be too quick to drop players.

Scheffler looks like he might be sharing the receiving TE duties with Nate Jackson. Maybe not, but Jackson has been getting a lot of looks with the starting lineup and getting a lot of targets that I would think would go to Scheffler. I think Jackson has managed to stick with the team despite nagging injuries over the past few years mainly because he has been so impressive when he is healthy.

Scheffler is going to be a stud. Jackson is nothing more than a backup. I would not overreact to the preseason.
