2012 Player Spotlight Series

One of Footballguys best assets is our message board community. The Shark Pool is, in our view, the best place on the internet to discuss, debate and analyze all things fantasy football. In what's become an annual tradition, the Player Spotlight series is a key part of the preseason efforts. As many of you know, we consider the Player Spotlight threads the permanent record for analyzing the fantasy prospects of the player in question. This year, we plan to publish more than 140 offensive spotlights covering the vast majority of expected skill position starters.

As always we will post a list of players to be discussed each week. Those threads will remain open for the entire preseason, and should be a central point to discuss expectations for the player in question. Importantly, analysis done in the first week of posting will be part of the permanent record in two ways. 1) At the end of the week, we will tally the projections into a consensus. 2) We will select a number of pull quotes from forum contributors who make a compelling statement or observation. Both the projections and pull quotes will be part of a published article on the main website.

Thread Topic: Greg Jennings, WR, Green Bay Packers

Player Page Link: Greg Jennings Player Page

Each article will include:

[*]Detailed viewpoint from a Footballguys staff member

[*]Highlighted member commentary from the message board threads

[*]FBG Projections

[*]Consensus Member Projections

The Rules

In order for this thread to provide maximum value, we ask that you follow a few simple guidelines:

[*]Focus commentary on the player (or players) in question, and your expectations for said player (or players)

[*]Back up your expectations in whatever manner you deem appropriate; avoid posts that simply say "I hate him" or "He's the best"

[*]Avoid redundancies or  ... this should be about incremental analysis or debate

While not a requirement, we strongly encourage you to provide your own projections for the player (players):

Projections should include:

[*]For QBs: Attempts, Completions, Passing Yards, Passing TDs, Ints, Rush Attempts, Rush Yards, Rush TDs

[*]For RBs: Rushes, Rushing Yards, Rush TDs, Receptions, Receiving Yards, Receiving TDs

[*]For WRs & TEs: Receptions, Receiving Yards, Receiving TDs

Now let's get on with the conversation! We look forward to your contributions and let me offer a personal thanks in anticipation of the great debate and analysis.

Before Jennings injured his knee against the Raiders he was on pace for 86-1240-12. If he plays 16 games he's a lock for 1150-9-12 TDs. While he'll never be as flashy as the other elite WR's, I think he's the safest WR outside of Calvin Johnson and Larry Fitzgerald.

I don't buy into the Jordy Nelson stealing production for Jennings, as I view Nelson's 2011 season as an anomaly, and won't surpass Jennings on the food chain.

I say Jennings puts up 85 Receptions 1275 yards and 10 TDs

Have to agree with everything in that post

Concise and accurate.

While I think Jordy isn't going to surpass Jennings, I believe this past season was a sign of things to come from him. He didn't fall off when Jennings was out and with Jennings drawing coverage I think he could be in a for a big year. McCarthy has spoken about his desire to expand Jordy's role in the offense, I think Finley is the one who will be hurt as Jordy emerges. One thing that is seldom brought up is how often Jordy was looked at this past season in the red zone. If people think Dallas and Atlanta are productive enough to support two WR1s, GB certainly is.

Anyone else getting nervous about Jennings' concussion? Everyone reacts differently to concussions. For enhanced nervousness, research Sidney Crosby's lingering concussion from last year or the year before.

Rotoworld) Coach Mike McCarthy declined to put a timetable on Greg Jennings' (concussion) return when pressed by reporters Sunday.Analysis: Jennings has missed ten days of camp after suffering a concussion in the Packers' preseason scrimmage. "I'm shooting in the dark," McCarthy said. "It's not going as well as Greg would like. It's going to be a couple more days." Teammate James Jones isn't a head doctor, but sounded optimistic. "Greg will be fine," promised Jones. "He's just going through the procedures and all that stuff. I believe it's his first one he's ever had, so they're just monitoring him."
This just reminds me of the "no big deal" talk about Manning's neck last year. Someone please alleviate my concerns.

If I had to draft today, WR is so deep I'd probably let someone else take the risk unless the value was too great

This isn't another Justin Morneau type situation is it? I owned him a few years ago in fantasy and it was just painful to watch how slow the healing process was with him.

Jennings looked good against the Bengals. What does everyone think of him now? I'm on-board. Nelson's numbers were there when Jennings was out. Before he got hurt last year, Jennings was having a great season. I expet more of the same this year.

Since nobody responded, haha - I will say how I feel. I think he is destined to have a real good year, barring health. Yes, Nelson is there, and no I don't think last year was a major fluke for him, but his numbers will regress somewhat. Jennings was having a great year before he got hurt, and I expect it to continue this season.

What I liked about Jennings last year (prior to injury) was that he was the ONLY WR in my league who had 10+ points EVERY game for the first 10 weeks. Then somehow the Bucs shut him down?! Up to that point he was the #5 WR. On a true PPG basis (which doesn't count the games he didn't play in, obviously), he was on par with Steve Smith and Fitz last year.
