Gronk Hurting? (1 Viewer)

ESPN Boston's Mike Reiss wonders if the Patriots are more concerned over Rob Gronkowski's (hip) health than that of Aaron Hernandez's (ankle).

Reiss added that Gronkowski "has been dealing with significant pain these last two weeks." Gronk has shown up on the injury report the past couple of weeks with a hip ailment and has missed a few practices, but nobody has been overly concerned about it. The tight end had his snaps scaled back last week against the Bills, taking one series off in each half. Gronkowski is in no danger of missing Week 5, but it's something to keep an eye on. It's fair to wonder that when Hernandez returns, if Gronkowski could be given an even lighter load until his hip discomfort subsides.

What kind of story is that? The pats may be more concerned about grok than Hernandez but then the next line he says nobody is overly concerned about it? Sounds like total reporter conjecture.

Why be so quick to dismiss something that could be significant? He is dinged enough to play fewer snaps, so there is something to think about. The first post "suggests keeping an eye on it"... He isn't advising that you to leave Gronk out of your line-up. I was considering trading my TE2 as a throw in but may reconsider my need for depth there.

Gronk was two nice defensive plays away from a 7-130-3 stat line last week. 'Hurt' or not you can't sit him unless he's out.

It isnt analysis from the OP; its from Rotoworld. The first sentence is supposed to be from Reiss and the rest is Rotoworld spin. Here is the full quote from Mike Reiss:
More of the media attention has been focused on when tight end Aaron Hernandez might return for the Patriots, but I wouldn't be surprised if Bill Belichick and his staff are actually more concerned about Rob Gronkowski from a health perspective. It's my understanding that Gronkowski has been dealing with significant pain these last two weeks. He's listed on the injury report with a hip ailment, and we know of the back problems from his college days at Arizona. He had his snaps scaled back last week in the win over Buffalo (he had an uncharacteristic lost fumble in that game), and was limited throughout this past week in practice. Gronkowski is as tough as they come, but this is something I'll be watching closely.
"I wouldnt be surprised" being the key phrase...

"I wouldn't be surprised" is conjecture but the statement of Gronk's pain level is a bit more certain. Like most of these reports, I'll take it with a grain of salt. As a Gronk owner, the issue of which TE is hurt more means little. But I am concerned with Gronk's health because hip injuries can be dicey. Maybe I'm a little gun shy as a Sidney Rice owner.

Last week some reporter that covers the Pats locally said Gronkowski "did not look good" during pregame warmups. Sounds like he's playing through some pain. I took that reporter at his word and started Celek last week, another failed last minute line up change.

The fact that he is being held out for an entire series in each half is not good news, but I won't bench him again based on these reports.

I've heard he had hip issues since his college days- so its something he + coaches are monitoring.

If the Pats held him back, I still dont think they would take him out in the red zone- he is too valuable and reliable. That alone makes him a must start unless he is scratched.

ESPN's Sal Paolantonio reported that Rob Gronkowski (hip, questionable) is expected to play on Sunday against the Broncos.

Gronkowski has been dealing with "significant" hip pain and discomfort over the past two weeks, but he was never in real danger of missing the Week 5 showdown against Denver. Gronk was seen earlier in the morning walking without a limp, so he seems ready to go. The Patriots may give him a series or two off as they did last week against the Bills, but Gronk has a phenomenal mathcup with the seventh-worst defense against opposing tight ends. Aaron Hernandez (ankle) is unlikely to play.

I'm not the one who said it, but here's what I found looking for college injury reports on him. Others said basically same thing but with less detail.http://draftbreakdown.com/scouting-report-rob-gronkowski

Weaknesses

Huge risk because of his injury problems. It’s been reported that he suffers from spinal stenosis but Gronkowski has denied those reports. He missed all of last year due to back problems and his two older brothers (also athletes) have had disc problems in their backs as well. Not very sudden or elusive. Won’t outrun many people. Has some leverage issues when blocking.

Injuries

Missed first three games of 2008 with an illness. Missed entire 2009 season with a back injury that consisted of a herniated disk and nerve damage.
