Grossman down (1 Viewer)

Any chance Chicago could go out and get a decent option? Trade for David Garrard?
That would be a good move. Maybe Rohan Davey? If Aaron Rodgers continues to impress in Green Bay he may win the backup job which means Craig Nall would be available. But I don't know if the Packers would be keen on trading Nall to a division rival.

It's been discussed here quite a bit in the offseason, but management REALLY dropped the ball here. After last year's QB fiasco, it seemed clear that they should have gone out and gotten a proven backup in case Rex got hurt again. And here we are again. They can indeed grab a FA out there, but it's going to take some time for a new guy to get acclimated. Very poor decision making here

No offense to any Bears fans, but exactly how long do you plan on having your season riding on the arm of Rex Grossman?I mean, what has he ever done? If he is such a good Florida QB, why didn't Spurrier want him in DC?Why have they never brought in a solid veteran?

If they traded for Garrard, Grossman might not get his job back once he heals. IMO Garrard is a better quarterback than Grossman.

You're right about that Zamboni.......geez, maybe they can call Vinny Testeverde......and I'm not joking.

Move that pie Mom... I'm stickin' my head in there!
My sentiments exactly GA. Just when things were looking up for the offense--BAM! Another few steps back. Daaaaammmmiiittt    Sigh......lots of specualtion around here, but knowing the Bears, here's what they'll do. They'll hand the reigns to Hutch and play him sparingly in the preseason, getting Orton a LOT--and I mean a LOT--of work. Hutch will start the season, but will get yanked by game 3 if he pulls a Jonathan Quinn on us, hopefully paving the way for Kyle to go all Ben Rothlisberger. Third QB will probably be Kittner, who tore up the European league this year, but hasn't done squat in the states.

Don't look for any trades or deals to be made. When it comes to these QBs, the Bears are like Tammy Wynette: they stand by their men. They could have had Brad Johnson or Warner in the offseason to back up Rex, but felt like Hutch was a serviceable deuce. Not smart if you ask me, but let's hope they're right.

Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm going to go into my room, curl up in a fetal position and weep uncontrollably. :wall:  :bag:

Wow! If a team skimps at a position and doesn't have a quality backup, it seems like disaster comes to visit more often than not.See the 2003 Bears QB situation or the Ravens when they had no quality to Jamal and he shredded his ACL.

Geezalou...you gotta feel bad for the kid. Wow.As for affecting the running game...as a TJones owner last year (and this)....yes it will. Signficantly. Though, Benson's power may be able to overcome it a bit? Like Dillon in Cincy with no QB help?

I wouldn't even consider Rex Grossman an average NFL QB. Some posters are making it sound like they lost Joe Montana. They are going to go from one crappy QB to another. No real change here :D I'm sure most teams were going to stack the line anyways.Maybe they can trade TJ or Benson for a decent QB now :excited:

I agree that Grossman is -- at best -- an average NFL QB. I haven't been impressed with him at all. But compared to Hutchinson Grossman is Joe Montana. That's the problem here. Hutchinson is putrid and Orton is a rookie. So in the Bears' scheme of things they kind of have lost their own version of Joe Montana when you consider the significant talent drop-off that occurs from Grossman to Hutchinson.

I think Grossman is underrated. While he isn't a top shelf QB, he would have been servicable. But the upsetting thing to Bears isn't "what will we do with out Rex Grossman" its "Oh my god, our opening day starter is a rookie or Chad Hutchinson."

I like the Orton kid, but cant realistically expect anything out of him, but it is nice to have somebody with some potential. As for Hutch, Im just so not looking forward to seeing him trotted out there as the starter, and hearing all the garbage from Lovie and Angelo about how they believe in him and blah blah blah. Id rather have Vinny T or Blake

I totally agree, he hasn't showed ANYTHING yet. He was looking terrible before he went down. Orton isn't ready for primetime, but he will be better than Hutch, and frankly is showing more potential, albeit against scrubs, than anything Grossman has done. Maybe someday the QB carousel will stop, until then cellar dwellers. Early schedule for Bears looks easy regardless who is in there IMO.

:goodposting: The Bears now go from 7-9 to 5-11

Exactly - when all you have is a crappy Geo Metro, and it busts an axel, you still end up walking or taking the bus. All aboard the Orton Bus!

GO ORTON!!!!!
Orton looked great Monday night vs the DOlphins. Could he be slotted in and never look back (thinking Kurt Warner and Trent Green)I think Grossman might be done as a starter in Chicago. Poor guy, terrible luck.

What's that Mr. Benson, Haven't signed that offer yet? Sorry, we are going to need to adjust that DOWN now since we need some money to sign another QB... you snooze, you lose!

The bigger issue here isnt Grossman its Muhammed (sp).....he was already going low in some drafts....now I dont think he is a decent #2. I bet he still gets his 70/900 but might only get 4 TDs.FOr keeper league and dynasty leaguers this is a huge blow for MM owners.

Good gravy, I would never have thought I would agree with anything a Packer fan says...but you're dead-on, with a few addendums. The thing about Rex is we've never really got to see what he's about. Last year the offense looked like it was going to be okay...not bad, not good, but okay...then he blows out his knee. Offense in toilet. This year the optimism was back--stud wideout, upgrades at OL, hot new rookie RB. Again, a serviceable offense that can score a few points then let the defense do the real work. And now this. :hot: :wall:

Rex really hasn't had a chance to prove himself. Barring injuries, he'd probably be a typical Bear QB--he won't win you a lot of games, but he won't lose a bunch either. Your Erik Kramer-type mold. Brad Johnson would have fit perfectly into this offense.

My guess is they'll rehab him hard, bring him back for the last game or two and toss him on the scrap heap in the offseason. Brother makes fragile Fred look like a 6-inch piece of solid steel. :loco:

KITT-ner!! KITT-ner!! KITT-ner!! :wall: The only good news to come out of this game is that they are still running the Peyton Manning commercials.Let's go Insurance Adjusters, let's go...

Warner and Green has been a long time when they got their shot. Starting a rookie QB is more or less mailing your season in.Let's see, fantastic seasons by a rookie QB: Dan Marino, Ben Roethlisberger

Horrible seasons by a rookie QB: Every other rookie QB in history.

Orton may eventually be a great QB, but if they start him this year, its going to be a LONG season in chicago.

That's right in range with my revised projections for him. I wasn't expecting him to get many TD catches before since I don't think much of Grossman, but I did think he'd be solid for receptions and yardage. But he takes a major hit across the board now. What stinks is Muhammad was one of those players I wanted to see someone else take earlier than I thought he should go because that would mean a WR I did like would probably get pushed a little further down in the draft. But nobody will touch the guy now unless he represents unbelievable, simply can't pass on him value.

Why does it hurt to be a bears fan. :bag: Man this sucks! I agree Rex is not the greatest, but he gave us a chance, now we have nothing.

FWIW, I am a Vikes fan and simply loath and hate the Bears. That being said I cannot help but feel bad for Rex. I hope someday the guy gets a chance to prove himself, with all he has been through I think he deserves it. Best of luck to the kid.Late

Goodbye Jerry Angelo. If we don't go .500 (which seems remote at very very best, he'll be gone). 2 years to find a suitable back up....2 YEARS!! People were grumbling about getting a backup (or short term starter like Warner) in Spring 2004!!!Year 1 we could say ok. But Year 2, what on god's green earth are you thinking??At this point, it's too little too late for Angelo. They could go out and get Testeverde....that's beside the point. It's something that should of been addressed long ago. No point in bringing in Vinny and having him try to learn on the fly.
