"He lost his pivot foot"

This is football, Bryant, not basketball.

Cripes. He's friggin' horrible.

This is a good one.

Gumbel said about the Winter Olympics: "Count me among those who don't care about them and won't watch them... So try not to laugh when someone says these are the world's greatest athletes, despite a paucity of blacks that makes the winter games look like a GOP convention."

OMG THE WORST ONE YET!!!!!!!!!!!

After a 6 yard sack on 1st down, Minnesota was called for holding. The Packers obv declined making it 2nd and 16. Gumble asks CC "Are you surprised they would decline that and not push them back?" CC just said "No, not after the sack". Its like he has no clue anything about football.

:coffee: That was horrible. My wife who knows very little about football was looking at me like WTF?

That, by far, was the worst gaffe of the night, and Collingswoth's reply was classic; but there were so many more. One other WTF moment was when they were discussing how Minnesota had 6 penalties to Green Bay's zero. There was a punt return and a flag:

Ref: Holding, Green Bay, 1/2 the distance to the goal line

Gumble: That's now 7 penalties on the Vikings and none for Green Bay.

Also, as a Driver owner, sitting on 99 yds receiving, he called a long reception for Driver, that was actually a catch by another Packers receiver (Martin I believe).

I honestly wonder if he's watching the same game.

He clearly watched too much basketball over football.

There was the "shot clock" (not PLAY clock) last week. Now this week he mentioned Rayner's "pivot foot" when he slipped and fell rather than a plant foot.

"With those extra four yards, the Vikings are unable to attempt a 92 yard field goal. I believe that 96 yards is just beyond Longwell's range."

Same boat pulling for a yard from Driver. I knew Driver was lined up on left but still it threw me for as split second. I know Favre thros to Driver A LOT but this wasn't the only time he called Driver when it was intended/caught by someone else.

Not to nitpick but he also mentioned that it was a "frosty" night in Green Bay. For one who uses the term "frosty" and secondly if it's raining in December in Green Bay that's not frosty...that's a fricken heat wave.

I don't mind his odd phrasing or occasional wrong word. But it drives me crazy when he doesn't notice obvious things happening in the game.

For example, during Saturday's Falcons/Cowboys game he never noticed when Schaub was under center until during the play. All the buzz all week was about the Falcons splitting Vick out, and then Gumbel misses it wach time it happens.

I mean... Vick and Schaub don't really look alike, you know?

He also said the field goal hit the right upright when it was the left, and also said the Viking will "again turn the ball over on downs" when really it was 3 and out and they had to punt.

I was (un)fortunate to watch the game last Saturday night because it was here in Atlanta. Normally I don't get NFL Network games due to my not having the upgraded package to get it.

All I can say is that Gumbel, by far, is the worst commentator I've ever heard. He makes witty commentators like Theisman and Madden look brilliant!

These lists are great. I have no access to the NFL Network telecasts and that is maybe not such a bad thing after all.

Does anybody know what the ratings have been and what the thoughts are for the NFL Network telecasts next year?

the big thing is if your going to charge that kind of money to show a game at least put good announcers on.

At some point last night, on a kick return, it went something like this...

"x player has a LOT of running room in front of him!!!!!"

That would be fine... if he were not tackled SIMULTANEOUSLY with said statement.

Hasn't this guy been on tv for 20 years? Why won't he look at the camera? It looks like he is trying to pick up Vermeil.

This is the first time that I've seen a game on the NFL Network. I just figured you guys were too harsh on him as I actually do enjoy Joe Theisman. But wow, this guy is beyond bad.

too many beers I guess he did say 45 yard try....woooohooo he got something right.
I didn't see the KC game (although I saw the atrocity that was MN vs GB), but if the ball was on the 35 and he said 45 yard FG, that's still not right. That would make it a 52 yard FG attempt.

Gumble said the first thing I can give him credit for. During a mistake by Gumble, he apologized and corrected it pretty quickly. Vermeil then stated that it was OK, everyone's allowed a mistake. Gumbel then stated that he's working on keeping it to just one. The guy sucks, at least he knows it and apparently is working on it.

He did have less mistakes last night, but this turning it over on downs when a team is punting or kicking a field goal is getting really old.

I thought the same thing at first, but the ball was on the 35 after it was snapped -- thus making it a 45 yard try as mentioned.

Ya that turning it over on downs crap has to go. He says it and I'm freakin out because I think I missed a play or something.Man I thought that last play was only 3rd down. Most of the other stuff is just annoying but when he's adding stress for no reason....it's time to hit mute button.

this guy seems like the type to put forth effort to improve. maybe next year he will be much better.
Yeah, hopefully he will be able to improve and maybe after a full year of experiences, his references will be a little more up-to-date instead of his current references to the 70s and 80s when he last did NFL games.
