I've been trying to grab Malcom Brown in a lot of places, mostly the deeper leagues or dynasty leagues, but are finding the room tough to come by in redraft. Most of these I own Gurley, others I don't, but how important is it to handcuff this guy to TG?
With the way the Rams O has been producing, McVay looking like a huge difference maker on O, Gurley's a true stud RB so far. Like a David Johnson of '16. He's carrying some teams and is basically a key piece you can't be without. He's carrying a heavy load through the quarter mark of the season and the Rams are viable again.
In the case of David Johnson, he was in that same boat, but we're seeing he has no one behind him that can step in and put up DJ type production or at least 75-80% of it. It seems like Malcom Brown could easily step right in and save your season if you own Gurley and if something happened down the stretch. It's a tough hold, sure but with all the injuries we're seeing and the heavy use the Rams are putting on him, it's a great CYA move it seems.
The question, to handcuff or not. If you don't want to hold Brown, how long are you waiting and pushing it before the Rams RB spot being really viable, Gurley's studness and Brown's nice upside makes it impossible to not handcuff these guys in all formats?
There are not many spots or backup RBs that can step in almost act like the starter, but are we thinking Brown is in one of those guys? His measurables come out like a feature back on par or better than guys like Crow, Zeke, DJ, LB. He scored a TD opening week, has had some really nice runs the past 2 preseasons and has McVay's trust it seems.
