Gut feelings worth more than standard analysis? (1 Viewer)

Twice now I have put my gut feeling aside for playing the "numbers" game.

Last week I benched J. Lewis even though I thought I should play him.

This week I was playing McNabb and had the feeling I should start Curtis...but I didnt.

I think from now on I will play the gut feeling over watching the cheat sheets and numbers.

I'm with ya, bro. Two weeks in a row now I went with numbers/rankings on the cheetsheets instead of going with my gut. There is such a thing as overthinking the situation and with the glut of info available, I'm certainly guilty of it.

I think both ways can be a huge help and a huge hinder. Case in point:

Today - sat Rivers for Jason Campbell - first time I sat Rivers all year - hmmm 300 yds and 3 tds

Also Today - put in Kevin Curtis for the first time this year - thinking detroit and philly would be a shootout...

So - I think both ways can leave you patting yourself on your back or secondguessing yourself. I think you look at the numbers as a guide and then go with your gut from there. FBG had Campbell as a much better start than Rivers - and I thought about the matchup and agreed that the matchup was in Campbell's favor. Didn't pan out....

On the flip side - I had Ladell Betts, Jerious Norwood on my team - both sportsline and FBG had the slight edge on Betts or Norwood over Kevin Curtis....well - I'm not going to say I rock because next week I'll make a similar call and it will blow up in my face and cost me the game (of course sitting rivers may have already blown my game - a couple of players to go yet before final game)

Funny you should bring that up.

In my one league, my gut told me to play Kevin Curtis over Antonio Gates as my 3rd WE/TE. I went with the numbers play and started Gates. I will end up winning anyway.

In my other league. my gut told me to play Reggie Brown over DeShaun Foster as my flex. I went with my gut and lost whereas I would have won with the numbers play.

It totally depends. You could basically be screwed either way.

the cheatsheets, really all the advice sites remind me of those TV shows where the so-called experts tell you who to bet on. @ "experts" go one way the other 2 well you know. love to read the sites but as far as advice they almost end up split down the middle. go with the gut that way nobody to blame but yourself! perfect example I`ll bet 75% of the sites said bench B Marshall WR Den this wek vs Jax.

Well, why don't right down all of your gut calls vs. the cold-hearted analysis for the next two years. You have to make your picks before the games. You could do them in this very thread. Then you'd have a pretty good sample pool. Maybe, just maybe your gut is better at making picks.

Not a bad idea. We always remember the mistakes, but rarely remember the good calls. I analyze the matchups and then add my gut, that seems to work best. Probably because the gut knows when your analyzation is bad.

Man, you really are a FF Dork

FF Dork rules. For the next two years (minimum) I am going to post my Gut v. Numbers plays in this thread. I always have at least one crisis per week so I should be able to get a nice sample size going here.

"It passed noon while I was speaking, so that was technically accurate."

Actually, I normally do follow my guy. Unfortunately for me, my gut is usually wrong.

I'm going with the George Costanza "opposite" method next week.
