guy in my league passed away last night - awful (1 Viewer)

Just got this:

Guys, I am writing with some incredibly sad news. Mike M. passed away in his sleep this morning. I don't have many details at this point, but I figure many of us have known Mike a good long time, and he was a salt of the earth kind of guy. Can't believe I'm writing in the past tense. As Andy said to me a few minutes ago, I keep waiting for someone to say this is a joke. Mike has young twin girls, around a year old. Their Christening, in fact, was set for sometime in the next couple of weeks. Please take a minute to say a prayer or in some other way to send out your well wishes to his wife and the kids.
:shark: Being new to the league I hardly knew the guy, met him for the first time in March when I sat next to him at the draft. I swapped a few trade-talk emails with him just yesterday. 41 years old, no known health problems. Life is strange. :fishy:

Yes that sucks to hear. While I've never been in a league where it has happened, I know I've heard of some leagues that will band together and help out the family with a nice chunk of the league purse.

Sorry to hear, guy in my football league passed last Friday.......guy was in his 50's, found out he had the cancer less than 12 weeks ago

He's the father of our league commish, and has been in the league since it's inception some 15 years ago.

This years draft just won't be the same.

I was in a baseball league that this happened in several years ago. I did not know the person very well, but it was still the suck. We gave the family the league purse.

Damn, lot of young people dying. My twelve year old played against one of his buddies on opening day two weeks ago. After the game, his buddies 44 year old father (who was the first base coach during the game) had a massive heart attack and died. No known health issues. Died right there in front of the team full of twelve year olds. Horrible.

Sorry to hear about your league's loss

I have had this happen twice - once in a local keeper league, although the guy was older but had no known health issues.

Another time it was during a slow email draft (in December)...guy missed a few picks so I called and got his grief-stricken wife. We re-named the league after him as many of us had drafted with him for years.

We're looking into naming our league title/trophy after our fallen friend.

The FF league I run lost one of our members to muscular dystrophy at the young age of 24 in 2005. The league was/is all a close group friends with him and we now play for the Joel Foley Memorial Trophy. It doesn't replace the owner but we all get together at his parents house each year for the draft and reminisce. Its a good idea.RIP JoelAnd sorry for your loss Nigel
