Had the Packers Won Instead of Seattle? (1 Viewer)

I am a Seahawks fan as a disclaimer. If the Packers had won that game Monday night where Rodgers threw the ball to Nelson, Nelson pushed a defender in the back and then wrapped his arms around Chancellor for the TD, would the nation send Jordy Nelson hate mail, trash McCarthy? The players play, the coaches coach. THEY DON'T MAKE THE RULES AND THEY DON'T ENFORCE THEM. Why the hate? Be objective, could you see the same attitude towards the Green Bay players and coaches should that nightmare scenario played out in reverse? For the record, as a Hawks fan, I felt it was an interception along with most of my Seahawk fan friends.

People are calling Tate and Carroll cheaters! Yes Tate pushed off and he pushed off bad. But man in the heat of the moment with the game on the line sometimes you do things without even thinking about it. You look back later on the tape and are like "I did that?" What do you guys think? Do the Seahawks deserve to be branded cheaters? The defense sacked Aaron Rodgers 9 times. Are they just cheaters though?

Why are all the Seattle fans acting like this is a personal attack from everyone else against their team? Why do you all feel inferior to the Green Bay Packers?

If the tables were turned I'm assuming there would be outrage against Green Bay getting the victory as well, and it would be completely valid.

Get over yourselves Seattle fans.

I don't think I can hate the Packers any more than I already do.

I don't hate the Seahawks and I don't hate Golden Tate. There are not many athletes that I dislike. It is an entertainment business and one that media plays a large part of feeding or fueling people to try and make you like or dislike people.

Everyone makes mistakes. I am all about forgiving and moving forward with athletes, coaches, owners and so on that make mistakes and accept responsibility for those mistakes. If you get caught using steriods you should accept you got caught, but just apologize and move forward and I will probably give you a pass. Denying mistakes like Lance Armstrong did and I will find a way to dislike you.

Carroll is tough to like. He is not the only one in college sports obviously, but he was a big part of running an unethical program at USC or at least turning a blind eye to it. Everyone has faults and it is human nature to dislike some more than others. Carroll is easy to dislike based on shady practices and moving on like nothing happened. That is not good for sports.

Is anyone really calling them cheaters? I haven't heard that, though I'm not exactly plugged in anywhere I might hear something like that. They obviously didn't cheat, and if Tate's getting hate mail or anything like that, it's stupid. I don't think that has anything to do with the Seahawks specifically, though, and I'm sure if the roles were reversed there would be people saying the same things about the Packers, or any other team for that matter.

I did hear some comments from Pete Carroll the other day which I found distasteful, though. I didn't like the way he was handling himself. I also didn't like the way Aaron Rodgers handled it the next day, either, so I'm not just bagging on the Seahawks.

Nelson, Rodgers, and McCarthy would have handled the situation with some class and honest humility. Their counterpart Hawks did not.

It was a call made by the officials, not by the players. Nobody should hate Pete Carroll or Golden Tate because it could have been any team. Just happens that it ended up that way.

For the sake of argument since you started this thread lets do a hypothetical

If it was the Super Bowl and your favorite team had the same thing happen, you would be upset if your team was getting screwed, and you would be happy if it was your team that ended up getting the win, even if it was controversial.

I think the reason Carroll and Tate got such heat is because they were so adamant that the play was good. They should've just said "we don't make the calls and we're happy the result" and moved on.

Btw, M Lynch straight up said they shouldn't have won the game after seeing the play so mileage varies in terms of reactions.

Players and coaches have reacted to winning on questionable calls before - some have been a bit more diplomatic in their comments at those times.

Can you give examples of how the Hawks players didn't handle it with class? I believe McCarthy was very classy throughout the whole ordeal. Aaron Rodgers not so much with the way he talked the next day. Please tell us how the Hawks weren't classy? Because they rejoiced of winning a hard fought game?

I haven't witnessed anyone stating that the Seahawks are "cheaters" and don't understand why anyone would say that anyway. They aren't cheaters....they may lack integrity but they didn't cheat.Your entire first paragraph said nothing about cheating and came off as if you have some sort of inferiority complex.

Hey bro, SUPER BOWL XL. I, and most Hawks fans never said Steelers stole that game. We just believe the refs made some bad mistakes. Your argument is an apples to oranges thing.

lol seattle fans. This is like the steeler superbowl where they got hosed on a couple of calls and they think the game was stolen from them. They would've lost anyway.

Also, Pete was the HC at USC. The man does not exude integrity.

As a seahawks fan I can say nobody would care and we would be told to go drink some coffee and ####. That is what is so great about this all.

and you little #####es have been whining about since. Now this.

I never really gave a rip what Tate or Carroll said. Of course they were excited, they got the W. It's not like they went into the locker room and started analyzing the replays. They celebrated their victory.

Why would you say this? Not all Seattle fans act the same way. If anything, all the various teams have pretty much the same sort of fan base. We have our homers just like everyone else. We have our extreme dooshbags just like everyone else. I'm sure we even have fans just like you. I'm sure you have fans just like me.Are you under the impression that any one fan base is better than another?

I highly doubt in this scenario that McCarthy would have been jumping around like he won the lotto. He'd have given a statement along the lines of "the refs rules how they did. We are getting ready for New Orleans." Carroll is jumping yippee skippy and talking too much.

That said, I don't think Seattle should be labeled as cheaters or anything. Carroll lack decorum, but that's about the extent of my criticism of him. The criticism I have is for Goodell, not any member of the Seahawks.

Right on...I didn't hear McCarthy bellyache after the game like this...
Coach Mike Holmgren addressed all of those subjects and more Monday in a short briefing with reporters before he and the Seahawks left the team hotel to head back to Seattle."Penalties, as much as anything, were the story of the game, and that's unfortunate," Holmgren said. "It might be the first time I've said that in my entire life."We knew it was going to be tough going against the Pittsburgh Steelers," he said. "I didn't know we were going to have to play the guys in the striped shirts as well.""The unusual part of it is typically our team is not a very penalized team in general," Holmgren said. "And in the Super Bowl in general, they [officials] kind of let the guys play."But anything I say sounds like an excuse, and I don't want to do that, and I haven't seen the plays yet."Holmgren was also asked about the decided advantage the Steelers had in the stands at Ford Field. Pittsburgh fans vastly outnumbered Seahawks supporters in the crowd of 68,206."That part of it wasn't all that fair," Holmgren said. "Pittsburgh has wonderful fans ... but to sell the yellow towels on every row of the stadium, I'm sure there were a few non-Pittsburgh fans that were waving those things because they got the towel. And I didn't see too many green towels being sold. It was the first Super Bowl I have ever been involved with ... where it was that lopsided that way."http://seattletimes.com/html/sports/2002789194_hawk07.html

This is a silly complaint. The only thing that was proven was that an RB's parents were living for free in a house owned by someone completely unaffiliated with the school and happened well after Bush was a star at USC. I'd understand that mindset if Carroll and/or boosters or someone affiliated with the school did stuf to gain a recruit or to keep players happy with cash and such, or if it was widespread among the players over the course of a regime there. And I'm not saying that he was unaware of it or that other stuff wasn't happening, I'm sure it goes on at every top school, but as far as what the scandal is known for, the school and coaching staff had nothing to do with it. Just seems totally silly to me for THAT to be the reason why people don't like him. No, I am not a USC fan, I have no college allegiances other than loathing Ohio State.

I've never cared much for Pete Carroll, but he's been put in a tough position. And I believe he has admitted as much on air that they really caught a break and the decision could've easily gone the other way.

Golden Tate on the other hand, between the shove, the denial, and the helmet shot on Sean Lee the week before is a player that just has that aura of cheapness about him. Not a fan.

Are you under the impression that you are a "good" fan while I am not?I was wrong to state "all" Seattle fans. Was getting carried away based on what I've read on more than one forum board today from some of those dooshbag homer fans.

I am a Packer fan who believes they shouldn't have put themselves in that position to potentially lose and leave it up to the referees. No complaining about the loss from me.

Why would you ask this? I made no such claim. Further, I made no specific charge against you judging what sort of fan you are. I said that no fan base is better or worse than any other. If you want to judge me based on my reaction to this single play, here was my only post on this board. The play was an embarrassment. I said so then, and I still think so.
I was wrong to state "all" Seattle fans.
Great. Let's not go there if possible.

Or maybe it isn't possible. If you want to say something about a specific person, great. Want to call "I'm the Scientist" a loudmouth homer? Great. He is, and I've said so many times.

Pointing at "dooshbag" homer fans looks like complaining to me. I'm complaining. I'm doing this by pointing the finger specifically at you. I'm complaining about you making broad sweeping generalizations about all Seattle fans. Several of us (yes, I mean me too) try to be informative and objective. We would appreciate it if you didn't group us in with the tools. TIA.

Uh...yeah. There is such a thing as going overboard. You're looking over the starboard bow right now.
