Hail, Caesar! ... next up from the Coens (1 Viewer)

Looks like an outstanding cast - scarjo's accent sounds forced though, almost as bad as JJL in hudsucker.
is there any actress that *can* do that accent/vocalization really? there are some people that appreciated what JJL did in Hudsucker. it was no less an affectation than Newman's boss character's. Hudsucker is a grossly underappreciated Coen pic, imo, because it is such a loving homage to films of a certain style and era.

I'd do everyone in that movie.

Edit: Ok, maybe not Jonah Hill.

This looks like absolute garbage. Other than a big cast what am I missing here?
The actual movie. Almost anybody can make a quality trailer, but the Coen Brothers consistently make great movies. I'm in.
Exactly, they deserve the benefit of the doubt even if the trailer looked horrible (which it didnt)
Not only do they deserve the benefit of the doubt, but any rational fan of motion pictures should at the very least be interested when they discover the Coen Bros. have made a new film. I am not saying that everything they touch is cinematic gold, because they have made a few clunkers here and there. I am saying that well over 50% of their output is gold, so people best pay homage when they appear. Saying that something they produce is 'absolute garbage'...well..them are fightin' words. I think Chauncy should put up a list of representative films so we can further discern the level of quality this person is used to enjoying.

Completely uninteresting and terrible trailer. I'll be in anyway though just because it's the Coens and it will almost definitely rule.

When you have the majority of a productions budget tied up paying the cast, they likely have to make cuts somewhere else. It looks like the special effects were the ones to suffer in this movie. I didn't see one major explosion or a single CGI transforming object. This movie is gonna suck!

:lmao:

I like what you did here

They're so binary, they've made some absolutely great stuff and some real stinkers. Not many in the middle IMO.

Huge fan of Burn After Reading because of the subtle & deadpan humor. This looks more like slapstick physical comedy which can be dumb and cliche if overdone. The trailer doesn't blow me away. But it's the Coens, so mandatory viewing and probably better then 99% of comedies that will come out this year.

Going to see it anyway. Coen Bros are always hit or miss with me but maybe this is one that grows on you like Oh Brother.

I also thought that was an ironic affectation. A Muncie girl!

Love that movie.

Anther wildly overrated Coens brothers movie? Pass.
There are a few of their films that I didn't really enjoy...Barton Fink, A Serious Man, Inside L. Davis...

But the only ones I would consider "wildly overrated" are Oh, Brother Where Art Thou and Big Lebowski.
I agree. Inside L Davis was complete yuck. Seemed like a hipster type thing to say that you liked it.
Wife loved it, I did not care for it as much if at all. And that guy is in the new Star Wars and hailed as some sort of amazing actor.

It's the Coens, got 80% on RT, but the people who paid money and went to see it all seem to think it sucks. Wife nagging to go see it and Zoolander 2 this weekend, you can tell football season has ended, it's back to date night at the movies season.

Acting was good as usual. Brolin was outstanding. The overall movie though was meh. Felt like a film made for industry people. Regular viewers, even Coen fans, might not get it. I sure didn't. A lot of homage to how films were made and the atmosphere of the time. But a very basic and weird ransom plot.

Maybe it grows on me but it wasn't as funny as Oh Brother or Lebowski were the first time through and I didn't like them at all at first.

I typically like insider Hollywood movies, but didn't like this one. The acting was really good across the board, but the script fell flat. It didn't suck, but mild thumbs down.

You couldn't pay me to see Zoolander 2

Same. There were some mirthless chuckle moments but I can't think of any scene that I was laughing really hard at.
