Not me. I have both & would rather have one out or limited... more snaps for Nicks would be sweet....Would rather have Manningham in to spread out the coverage. It's clear that all NYG WR's have value.

Manningham had 7 targets to Nicks 8... It's been this way for more than last week. It doesn't matter and is probably better for the offense as a whole for Manningham to be in.Mario Manningham on his shoulder injury: "Oh yeah, I will be out there (Sunday), no question. I’m going to be all right."

You could also look at yards per catch and TD's per catch.you have to look at the stat both ways . . .yes, Manningham has the dropsies, BUT he gets open more than Nicks - that would explain why the percentages are close . . .
that's a good point about Steve Smith?? what happened? did teams really "figure him out?"Giants haven't been the same since Eli's injury to his heel. Inconsistant at best. Hakeem's TD was a fluke. Giants should have scored just 10 points against the mediocre Cards D. And that was at home. All the people enamored with the Giants are going to come back to earth. Even Steve Smith is being figured out. I am selling or have sold all my Giants WR's. I don't think the second half mirrors the first. This week they face a real test at Philly. Soon enough, the WR's will be on the cusp of WWs. jmo.

Correct me if I'm wrong because I'm going on memory here. Steve Smith is a polished WR who runs good routes, but has little speed, and he isn't physical to gain separation. IMO if teams decide to shut him down they can. Whereas that's more difficult with elite WRs with both size, speed, and hands. Sorry if I messed that up, but that's how I see Steve Smith. Anyone who expected him to be more than a WR #2 made a big mistake, and IMO he's really a WR #3 for fantasy purposes. After about three weeks, they figured he was the guy that needed to be shut down. I don't know if I would lay it on Manning's heel. They just aren't playing Washington, Dallas, Tampa Bay, Kansas City, and Oakland lately. Bingo...we have a winner. Way easy a stretch. FWIW, I like the Giants competing in the second half the old fashioned way, with a lot of Jacobs up the gut. They do have a great defense, and if Jacobs remember's who he is, instead of trying to tiptoe through holes like Bradshaw, he will carry them to the playoffs. But the overrated Giants WR's will come back to preseason predictions. And that aint that bad either.I still like this team a lot.I don't know if I would lay it on Manning's heel. I think you're underrating Smith. It's not just route running; he's good at finding seams and is quicker than you'd think, in the 4.4x range. Gets in and out of breaks fast. He's also tough in traffic. He might lack elite size, but it's not like he's ridiculously small: 5'11-195 is right around Ward/Harrison dimensions. He's a ballhawk, plain and simple. But he's never had to worry about defenses focusing on him, so this is a learning period. I think he'll settle in as a very good WR2 opposite Nicks, and I think both of them will make each other better, both in fantasy and NFL.Correct me if I'm wrong because I'm going on memory here. How many drops has Nicks had? That list only includes the players with 4 or more drops. If Nicks has 2 drops, then it would mean that he drops almost as many passes (7.2%) as Manningham (7.7%).NFL league leaders in drops: http://stats.washingtonpost.com/fb/leaders...ng&rank=232
Former owner of both Manningham and Nicks. Trade value is too high not to take the offers I was getting. Manningham is a sloppy route runner, and is due for a correction to his stats. He can't continue to drop passes and continue to be a part of the first team. Nicks, if not for a lucky deflection has a poor game in FF last week. Both are roster-worthy, but I didn't have the confidence going forward that there early season performance was anything but fool's gold. Time will tell.I have both Nicks and Manningham on numerous teams so I'll claim to be impartial.Manningham has not seized the opportunity to step up and seize the 2 spot next to Smith. 3 of Nicks's TDs have come in so called garbage-time. That said, Nicks has seized whatever opportunities that have been afforded him AND battled back from an early season injury. Manningham has lost time, whether it be injury/lack of toughness/or coaches decision to see more of other receivers. With less opportunity, Nicks has proven to be more productive in the FANTASY world of football. They bring different skills to the position but at this time, Nicks appears to have better hands/take more advantage of the opportunities afforded him. I have started Nicks over Manningham for the past three weeks and have been awarded with equal or better points in the fantasy world. This is not to say that Manningham won't put up better numbers this week or in the future but Nicks gets the nod; garbage time or not, until Manningham outperforms him.
Manningham has seized the opportunity. I bet Manningham wasn't even drafted in most leagues, so he's done much better than the average fantasy football player has expected because I doubt he's currently on too many waiver wires right now.Same can be said about Hakeem Nicks. The guy has played well and is doing what he can with the limited opportunities he's getting in game situations. The bickering of who's better, who drops more passes, who runs better routes is crazy talk. They spread the ball around and both players are good yet inexperienced. If one of them are hurt, it doesn't take a rocket scientist to bump up the other guys at least until one comes back.I have both Nicks and Manningham on numerous teams so I'll claim to be impartial.Manningham has not seized the opportunity to step up and seize the 2 spot next to Smith. 3 of Nicks's TDs have come in so called garbage-time. They're not fools gold. Manningham was a 3rd round pick and he didn't even play his senior season at Michigan. The guy was a pure stud there and him emerging in his 2nd year is not even close to a fluke.Nicks is a rookie and he's already putting up good numbers and gaining the confidence of Eli Manning. He seems like he's a big play maker. As far as route running is concerned, any rookie or 2nd year WR needs work on that and they're no exception. Route running they can work on, having God given talent isn't something that is coached and those guys have it.Former owner of both Manningham and Nicks. i was going to post largely the same thing.i think he wasn't expected to run a 4.4, but did at combine or his pro day. going further back, i also think he was an elite CA prep sprinter (i always take it more seriously if somebody is one of fastest players in CA, FL or TX, compared to, say, rhode island or montana), though maybe not fastest like fargas or one of fastest like reggie bush.he may not play like he has elite speed, but he is plenty fast.imo the jury still out on how good smith can be, but i also see him being good to very good, & nice tandem of the future with nicks (accorsi's replacement has done a fantastic job acquiring talent)...I think you're underrating Smith. It's not just route running; he's good at finding seams and is quicker than you'd think, in the 4.4x range. Gets in and out of breaks fast. He's also tough in traffic. What the Giants need to do is put Smith in the slot. The Giants need a dominant #1 next to Smith and Nicks is the perfect fit for that.
Where is this coming from? I'm getting tired of this speculation. Nothing has suggested that either is hurting the other. TargetsMario Manningham 4 13 7 8 3 9 8Hakeem Nicks 4 0 0 3 6 8 7Steve Smith 8 13 7 16 4 6 10Looks to me like Smith is being hurt in the slightest by Nicks. As I said before though whether Manningham is out or in I expect it not to matter.Nicks is a player. Plain and simple. He's made big time plays the past few weeks and has shown why many said he'd be the best rookie WR. He came from a pro-style offense and that's clearly benefiting him in 09.With Nicks' performance the last few weeks, the Giants have to continue to give him more playing time. He's had 6, 7 and 8 targets the last three weeks. 7 targets/game would put him in the top 20 in targets. If he sees more playing time, there's not reason for that to continue. It's clear that Manning trusts Nicks.I believe Manningham will continue to lose time to Nicks with what he's done the past few weeks. Watching all of these Giant games, Manningham looks good, but Nicks looks better. The Giants need a dominant #1 next to Smith and Nicks is the perfect fit for that.
Could be right. With CJ gimpy I am going to have to start Nicks this week so I hope your right. I have kept him on the bench because I forsaw lack of opportunities the last 2 weeks and have been burned each week. Some players just make plays. They may look like accidents but they still count in the stats line.Heck the Giants beat Dallas earlier this year with some "flukes" but the game still counted.I have a hunch that this week is Nick's coming out party. I think this game with Philly is going to be a shoot out and the Giants will be forced to go to the air early. The Eagles are also third in the NFL against the run allowing only 3.5 yards per rush so if the Giants are going to successful then they will definitely have to go to the air. Manningham is nursing a hurt shoulder which should spell more playing time for Nick's. And he has not squandered those opportunities. Nicks will get one long TD and will be well over 100 yards this week. Book it.![]()
It's not so much speculation, but an opinion stuck watching the Giants game here in NY (we typically only get 1 NY game at each time). Take the # of targets and numbers to the grave, but Nicks has looked better out there in recent weeks.Nicks/Manningham are hurting one another right now, I totally agree with you. However, if Nicks continues to do what he is with his targets and Manningham what he's doing (he's been decent)... there will be a change. Nicks is a much bigger receiver that perfectly complements Smith underneath.I don't think Manningham's going to die off, but I do believe he'll see fewer snaps.Where is this coming from? Totally disagree. He's flourished this season and taken his game to a vertical level and not soley an over the middle guy. He's quite capable, he's just not a #1 NFL WR. He knows how to find the seams and pick apart zones, but needs a Burress-type #1. Smith is an ideal complement guy. What the Giants need to do is put Smith in the slot. The Giants need a dominant #1 next to Smith and Nicks is the perfect fit for that.
Both Manningham and Nicks are better than Smith. They are just younger and need more development.Totally disagree. One reason Smith's been doing well is that they finally moved him out of the slot. At the outside, his quickness (and ability to find seams) is more evident. Putting him back in the slot would be wasting his abilities.
Smith has shown why he's been a reliable target for Eli on third downs. He's a flat out solid WR.Yeah, Smith is a solid WR I'd agree. Manningham and Nicks have the ability to become special though IMO. Smith is of course doing better now that he is out of the slot but that is mainly due to more opportunity. One reason Smith's been doing well is that they finally moved him out of the slot. Yes, but the biggest reason is D's were keying on the run and trying to stop Jacobs from getting going. Now D's are making sure Smith doesn't beat them and there is more room for Jacobs.
