The Juggernaut

The Man. The Myth
From what I can gather, players are eligible for consideration for the HoF 5 years after they stop playing. Rod Woodson last played the 2003-2003 season and is a mortal lock for induction. So, will that be next summer?

Part of the reason I'm confused is that Michael Irvin is going in this year, and it seems like Rod played a few years after Irvin was medically retired by the Eagles........

You have to be out of the game for five seasons. Take Marino as an example. His final year was 1999. He was out of the NFL in 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, and 2004. The voting process began during the 2004 season and he was eligible for induction into the 2005 class, which he was part of.

So, if Woodson's last season was 2003, he has to sit out 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, and 2008. He'll be part of the voting that starts next fall (during the 2008 season) and part of the 2009 class if he is elected his first time.

Michael Irvin's final season was 1999. He was first eligible for the 2005 class, same as Marino. But, he wasn't elected his first two years and made it his third year.

Thanks for the help. Glad I didn't buy my plane tickets.
