I'd vote for Santo & Torre on the post-war ballot, and Gordon, Magee & Dahlen among the ancients.

Magee and Walters on the ancients, Torre and Allen on the post-war.

SantoS and I refresher why **** Allen and that ridiculous OPS+ shouldn't be in. I know every time I take the refresher it reminds me why, but wow. Torre and Oliva are the defination of borderline.

As far as the old guys, Bucky Walters - an ol' fav of mine from the original all time baseball draft. Sherry Magee and I closer look at Vern Stephens, considering the era and his position.

Of all the players I've gained an appreciation for by playing so much WIS, **** Allen is #1 on the list.

Yeah I hope people look back at Trammell when he's up and feel the same. **** Allen should be in, no doubt.

Allen was a Hall of Fame talent but injuries, attitude and the era he played in all work against him. Here's a good article by Craig Wright that discusses Allen's well traveled career and dispels some of the myths of him as a clubhouse cancer.

HOF press release

Gordon got 10 votes, needing 9. Allie Reynolds was just short, with 8 votes.

For the post-43 ballot, needed 48 votes. Ron Santo got closest with 39. You guys can forget about Richie Allen.

Results of the 2008 Post-1942 Players Ballot (48 votes needed for election): Santo (39 votes, 60.9 percent), Jim Kaat (38, 59.4 percent), Tony Oliva (33, 51.6 percent), Gil Hodges (28, 43.8 percent), Joe Torre (19, 29.7 percent), Maury Wills (15, 23.4 percent), Luis Tiant (13, 20.3 percent), Vada Pinson (12, 18.8 percent), Al Oliver (nine, 14.1 percent), **** Allen (seven, 10.9 percent).

btw, i would have voted for Wes Ferrell & Joe Gordon for the oldtimers, and for the more recent list: Santo, Kaat, and Torre (guessing he'll get in for managing).

I don't have a problem with Gordon going in. He was a solid performer in his time, although you'll probably have to agree that be benefited from playing at 2B.

Allie Reynolds? I guess 182 wins and a career 1261/1423 BB/SO ratio is good enough if you're an ex-Yankee. If he'd gotten one more vote, he'd be among the least deserving HoFers IMHO.

Congrats to Joe Gordon's family

well, Reynolds WAS traded for Hall of Famer Joe Gordon (after Gordon had a stinker of a year upon his return from WW2). Fair to say that his war service cost Gordon 3 seasons - two where he didn't play at all and then that first season back.
