Hand injury (1 Viewer)

I just got back from the hand Dr. Because I thought I had a fractured near the knuckle on my index finger.  It turns out I had a 2inch thorn in my hand from a palm tree I was trimming over a year ago.  I went to the same Dr. When it happened, because i thought I broke it then.  It swelled up 2x the size of my  hand.  He did an x-ray, and recommended I get an MRI because he wouldn't be able to see if there was a thorn nor anything.  They made me a brace and all, and I scheduled the MRI.  My wife has a medical condition where she regularly has to have MRI's, so she knows how much they cost.  She ended up talking me out of it, saying I was over reacting.  I let a few days go by, wore the brace, and the swelling went down.  For a year though, I have had pain when working out.   I ended up just kind of avoiding using the index finger when gripping.  Well, a week ago I was planting bamboo in my yard, and I felt a sharp pain.  It felt like a pin poking out of my skin, and a 1×1 red bump formed.  Dr. Shot it up with lidocaine, made an incision and pulled it out.  I can't believe that thing was in me for over a year.  Long story short, never take medical advice from your wife unless she is a medical professional.  She owes me big time. :pickle:

Sorry for all the pain, but that's pretty cool (in a twisted sort of way, I guess).

Glad you figured it out.

The bright side is I can cite this for the rest of my life, or until she tosses me to the curb, when arguing!

Just sayin', for *ahem* conversation purposes *ahem* with the wife, that thing could have gotten infected and killed you. Only your strength of manhood saved you. Just sayin'.

I'd have been so pissed if she killed me.  This place would really become an echo chamber then.

Speaking of thorns, your neighbor is going to hate you for planting that bamboo.
It's the clumping kind, so it won't spread.  "seabreeze bamboo".  It's supposed to make a nice barrier.  Some people moved behind my house, and put a trampoline.  I don't want their kids to see us swimming nekked in the pool.

ORLY?

thank you for mentioning it then I'll look into it. I have long contemplated using the stuff but I know my neighbors would kill me and I honestly don't want to have to battle the spreading stuff either.

They say some of those shoots on the invasive kind can pop up 50ft away on other side of fence.  The Seabreeze kind is perfect for screening because of the lateral shoots.  Check out the YouTubes.  The guy told.me I won't be able to see the white pvc fence by December.

I don't get how you could have that in your hand for that long and not know.
I think it was up my hand much further to begin with, and worked it's way down.  When the initial swelling went down I barely noticed it.  I nailed my hand really hard several months later, near the same spot and thought I broke it then or something.  It started swelling up and bothering me from that point on, and I kind of felt something hard inside at times.  I must have jarred it loose, or into a different position at that point.

Doesn't this belong in the "Things that only happen in Florida" thread?

glad you're feeling better, can't believe that you functioned for a year with that in your hand.

I was in a pretty bad car accident several years ago.  I had a piece of glass work its way out of my head about 1 1/2 yrs after the incident.  It sort of freaked me out as it was not something I anticipated.  Had a little bump form.  Thought it was a zit, but it was hard.  Eventually, it poked through.  It wasn't too big though, about the size of an apple seed.

worked with a dude in a similar situation. he went head first through the windshield.  he told me he sat down every night and his wife massaged his scalp to work the glass bits out.  he used to do it at work over lunch sometimes.   ####### nasty.
