Handcuff Strategy (1 Viewer)

You've done a great job grabbing 3 solid RBs in the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th rounds of your draft (Deep/start 2 RB league). Now, you're getting toward the end of the draft, there's little value left on the board, and you have a chance to grab a handcuff. What's your strategy? Do you pick the backup of your 2nd round RB1 and call it a day OR do you backup your RB2 or RB3 who maybe presents more of a risk due to age or situation.

For example, you could have Lewis, Edge, and Selvin Young... do you pick up Wright, Hightower (this kid looks good!), or Torain/Hall/Pittman?? Obviously, the Torain injury makes the always confusing Broncos backfield even more difficult to read.

So, what's your handcuff strategy?

1) Can't answer the question, you didn't draft a RB in round 1

2) Who I handcuff depends on who the handcuff is, not who the starter is

Exactly...no need to fill your roster with handcuffs that probably won't pan out if the starter goes down. Take a flier on some other guys if you need to. IMO, Good players to handcuff include Leon Washington, Mendenhall, Chester Taylor, and any other RB you think can step in and be a productive STARTING RB. I don't usually handcuff more than one of my RBs, if any, simply because I would rather build RB depth with starters or RBBC members who have proven they can put up #s if I'm in a bind.If I had to choose from your list, I would pick Hightower.

1) in a deep league (16-teams), you don't believe exceptional non-RB value can appear in the first round? Brady? Moss? Manning? Would you see a need to handcuff an RB that's not in the Top 10?2) so, you would focus on the best available who also handcuffs one of your top backs (e.g., Wright/Hightower/Torain)?

1) Much like the last several years I believe anyone who drafts a QB/WR with their first pick will be very disappointed, even in a 16 team league. Would I want to handcuff a RB that's not in the top 10? Depends on the RB.2) I don't follow - if an injury goes down to a team's #1 and I would feel comfortable starting their #2 they have handcuff value, if I don't feel comfortable they don't have handcuff value

ok, so the overall advice is to focus on the value of the handcuff, regardless of WHO he's handcuffing. In the example above, if you had to chose between Brandon Jackson and Jason Wright and felt more comfortable with Jackson, you'd go with Jackson. Right? Thanks!
