The other looks to be Dave Rayner who was just waived by the Raiders since seabass is now healthy.

Lions-Bears II: Jason Hanson's status

Here's an interesting twist as we start looking at Sunday's rematch between the Detroit Lions and Chicago Bears: Lions place-kicker Jason Hanson might not be available.

Hanson didn't kick in practice Wednesday because he had stitches in his knee, according to Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press. Hanson had no known injuries in the Lions' Week 8 game at the Denver Broncos, so it's not clear if there was an injury during the bye week or if some other ailment developed. But the Lions are concerned enough about his status that they worked out two free-agent place-kickers Wednesday.

Dave Rayner, who filled in for an injured Hanson in 2010 but lost in a training camp competition this summer, signed this week with the Buffalo Bills.

Hanson is having a near-perfect year in his 20th NFL season, converting 17 of 18 field goal attempts -- including four of 50-plus yards. He's also managed 26 touchbacks among his 51 kickoffs. We won't get too worried about his status with half the work week remaining, but Hanson is a significant weapon and could figure prominently in a close divisional game.

I'm told Jason Hanson is questionable for Sun. Got stitches in his knee. Nothing serious but might need some insurance vs Bears.

Well, we know it's not Rayner as he's already signed. The Bills tried out 4 kickers and signed Rayner, so that leaves potentially S. Graham. It's weird how he was a fixture around the league and now he's everyone's emergency kicker.

Maybe they both worked him out? Seems weird that all the reports are so speculative...

Lions Work Out Kickers; Jason Hanson’s Status for Week 10 in Doubt

Posted on November 9, 2011 by Chris Burke

The Detroit Lions worked out a pair of kickers Wednesday — including Shayne Graham, the Detroit News‘ Chris McCosky reported — with Jason Hanson’s availability for Week 10 at Chicago suddenly up in the air.

The Free Press‘ Dave Birkett tweeted that Hanson received stitches in one of his knees and is questionable. The Lions will release their official injury report later this week.

When Hanson went down with an injury last year, the Lions turned to Dave Rayner, who proved impressive enough that he earned a contract from Detroit again this offseason. But with Hanson healthy for the start of 2011, the Lions released Rayner. The former Michigan State Spartan signed with Buffalo this week, to fill in for injured kicker Rian Lindell.

Detroit Lions kicker Jason Hanson is questionable for Sunday's game against the Chicago Bears after taking stitches in his right knee, and the team worked out two potential replacements today.

Hanson has made 17 of 18 field goals and all 26 of his extra points this year. It's unknown why he needed stitches, but he's not expected to miss more than one game -- if that.

Hanson was not in the locker room during the open media period after practice today, and Lions coach Jim Schwartz declined to comment on why Hanson wasn't kicking field goals during practice.

"I'll just leave the injury report to speak for itself," Schwartz said.

Punter Ryan Donahue also left practice during the 30-minute portion open to the media, leaving holding duties to backup quarterback Shaun Hill -- who said he hasn't held in a game since his freshman year of college in 1998.

Schwartz also declined to comment on Donahue's absence.

Running back Jahvid Best and defensive linemen Kyle Vanden Bosch and Sammie Hill also sat out practice today.

Best is expected to miss his third straight game Sunday as he continues to recover from his second concussion of the year.

Hill, who injured his ankle in an Oct. 23 loss to the Atlanta Falcons but played the following week against the Denver Broncos, also missed practice Tuesday. Vanden Bosch typically takes Wednesday off for rest.

How do you get hurt during a bye week?

Lost Seabass for a few weeks because of an injury in practice...now this.

:wall:

Idiot kickers.

Unless he has lost range of motion due to the stitches being in place this isnt a big deal. Need more information, how many stitches, where, will they be removed by sunday?

Thanks for the head's up. I dropped him before the bye and was about to grab him.

I have GBs Crosby now, so I think I'll just stick with him.

For ##### sake, hipple, how does a post even look anything like this even after you edit it? Are you blind or something? You can't ever seem to form a coherent title or even paste something legible.

IMO, it is the perfect week to grab Hanson CHEAP. He will be fine by next week, and his playoff schedule is fantastic - 3 indoor games (@NO, Minn, SD) and in Oakland.

Lions | Jason Hanson considered questionable

Wed, 09 Nov 2011 11:44:08 -0800

Updating a previous report, Detroit Lions PK Jason Hanson (knee) is considered questionable for Week 10. He received stitches in his knee for an unknown reason but it is not considered to be serious.

dammit. roster locked down for the week and dropped my backup kicker. rolling with hanson anyway. i hope this guy kicks this weekend!

The Lions have to be looking over their shoulders to secure a kicker. The Raiders may also be in the market. Dave Rayner was the Raiders emergency PK, and the Bills signed him. Janikowski had a recent setback and he's questionable for tonight's game. Don't be surprised to hear the Raiders sign a kicker today.

Rhys Lloyd and Shane Graham are the two kickers the Lions worked out.

Hanson has the stitches in his left knee. I don't see him missing a game and I think he was held out of practice just as a precaution.

Keep an eye out for a quick kicker signing though.

Rhys Lloyd was with Carlina when the Lions ST coordinator was working there in 2009 I believe.

I would lean towards Graham seeing he has kicked for 10 NFL teams in his career.

I still think Hanson kicks this weekend though, big divisional game with Hester waiting for kickoff returns. The Lions punter also got hurt trying to kick in practice. Might be interesting for Hester with Lions kicker and punter dinged.

picked up Gould and dropped Hanson but if he starts and they dont sign another kicker I will try to get him back. Dude has been solid.

Yeah he has. I don't think a few stitches in his plant leg are going to hold him out, but who knows.
I'm no MD but I bet they were bringing in kickers in case the stitches got infected or something. or at least that's what i'm telling myself as i'm heading in to a huge game this weekend and kickers points are insanely high in our league. i can't use anyone else as roster is frozen. d'oh.

So basically...both of my kickers in a league with limited roster moves...sucks to use one on a kicker.

Isn't Hester hurt as well?

So did Hanson survive yesterday’s game? I don’t want to carry a 2nd kicker if I don’t have to
