Harrington vs. Leftwich (1 Viewer)

So Leftwich is probably back in as the starter this week.

Can anyone figure out why?

Granted nether are great but Harrington has won 2 in a row and has some mobility which helps since the O-line isn't very good.

Other than the obvious answer of "Petrino is a moron" are there any reasons Leftwich is the better QB?

I don't know if I like it either way, but the bottom line is Leftwich will throw the ball downfield and has more fire on the ball to get it in tight spots. Petrino said when he made the switch that it was permanent so, healthy leftwich = starting leftwich.

You could make a case that they won both games as much on D as they did on O, but I thought they did ok in the CAR game. Drives that were stalling before were ending up in points. But I'll say this. The O simply "looked" better with Lefty in. He should have another good half before they cart him off again.

Gotta agree. Say what you will about Leftwich but at least he's had a history of winning in the NFL. I think guys like Carr and Harrington are just abused to the point that they will never recover. The aura they had coming into the league is vanished. They're losers, even if it is just a matter of waiting for the other shoe to drop. Leftwich hasn't had enough bad seasons to have the stigma of uncertainty and/or "loser" stick with him. He can still lead a team on the field...

Difficult to evaluate Leftwich since he really only played in parts of 2 games, and he didn't have much prep time.

And I'm skeptical of the presumption that Leftwich will "throw the ball downfield", considering that his Yards-per-Attempt is significantly lower than Harrington's. Harrington's 6.6 Y/A is higher than Bulger, Eli Manning, Josh McCown, Vince Young, Kellen Clemens, and Matt Leinart.

It's easy to bag on Harrington, but he has a respectable QB rating (81.0), throws for 200 yards a game and has a lower turnover ratio than Tom Brady or Brett Favre.

Leftwich seemed to have good chemistry with Roddy White - could help Roddy's numbers if he's in there.

Roddy White could be a seriously good player if he had a semi-decent QB throwing to him. Atlanta has yet to utilize his deep threat skills.

The only logic i have came up with is this, and yes i have thought about it a few time. He knows Joey hasnt won at other places and has seen him do an ok job. Leftwich has won in Jax. They had some good teams under him. Now does that make Lefty a better starter? Dont know, but its a logical reason why they went after him. Its a longterm thing

JMO but for what its worth, i thought Lefty was a solid QB for Jax.

I hope the guy in my Dynasty league reads this..Im trying to get Benson for him and another player. Yes Benson..

difference between leftwich and joey is that leftwich puts his numbers up throughout the game. joey only puts up numbers in the 4th QT when his teams have to attempt a comeback when normally he has been the reason for the comeback attempt. often fantasy stats create a mirage for some people

Atlanta needs to cut bait on both of these guys.
And they will, but until '08, this is pretty much what we've got to work with.
Lefty will start in 08...
Possible, but there are a lot of other possibilities. We could trade for a Losman, Rodgers, Anderson or Walters who already has some experience and could be the long-term starter, or we could trade for a vet like McNabb who could start for a year of two and draft for the future. Leftwich is an option, but he gets hurt again this season, which is likely IMO, he'll be considered too much of a liability to start in '08.

Harrington is not an NFL starting QB but is an OK QB#2. I think Atlanta would like to evaluate how Lefty fits into their offense so they know how badly they need a QB after the season.

If your worried about Leftwich's production, then you have major fantasy problems at QB
I don't see anyone in this thread concerned about Leftwich, his production and how it might hurt their fantasy team. This is a discussion about Atlanta using Harrington or Leftwich as their QB.

Mind if I ask why? You must have some explanation.

Leftwich was outstanding when he started the New Orleans game after looking horrendous in relief in the Tennessee game. His timing was on and there were vapor trails behind his passes. While Harrington has performed admirably, and even clicked in the Petrino offense at times, Leftwich opens up dimensions (especially with the young talent at WR) that Harrington just can not. That being said, Harrington has convinced me that he's probably among the best 32 QBs in the NFL, and he should be considered for a starting job elsewhere in 2008, even if its just to keep a spot warm for Ryan, Woodson, Brohm, or Dixon.

Harrington's splits (2007):1st Half: 948 yards, 3 TDs, 2 INTs2nd Half: 789 yards, 2 TDs, 3 INTsLeftwich's splits (2006):1st Half: 523 yards, 4 TDs, 3 INTs2nd Half: 636 yards, 3 TDs, 2 INTsBut hey, don't let facts get in the way of your argument. It's quite admirable to go against the truth like that. I salute you. :homer:

Well, I guess you were right about Harrington only putting up numbers in the 4th quarter. :D
