Harrison is a terrific WR! For those in doubt... (1 Viewer)

Um, I am guessing 99% of the people here either saw that catch when it happened in the game or on ESPN last night or today, and considering we all know how great Harrison is already, what exactly is the point of posting this?

Apparently, it's to set straight the folks who previously doubted that Marvin Harrison is a good WR.Who those folks are, I have no idea.
Just curious, if Harrison is good in your eyes. Who would rate as great?
I'm not sure if you're fishing or what, but I can assure you that absolutely no one doubts Harrison's greatness. Quite possibly the best WR since Jerry Rice. Given the choice between Moss, Owens, and Harrison, if they were all the same age, I'd take Harrison without thinking twice about it. He may not be quite as explosive as those two guys are capable of being, but he's consistent and he's a class act, and you can't say either of those things about the higher-profile Moss or Owens.

Not fishing, but I know I read that in a recent thread, someone said he was only good because of Manning. I also know I consistently hear on these boards atleast 4 or 5 WRs people would take over #88.It was a serious question about who else could make that catch last night. I am having trouble coming up with more than a couple. Just wanting to spark a conversation about who else in others eyes makes that catch is all. :)

I think the argument could be made that right now, guys like Steve Smith and Tory Holt are at least as good as Harrison, and probably better. But these guys have a long, long way to go before they're in the Hall of Fame, and Harrison is pretty much already there.

Fair enough, but do you think either of them could have made that catch last night? That's all I'm getting at.

Of course they could have.Would they have? Who knows.

Would Harrison make that catch every single time? Of course not.

I guess all that matters is that he made one hell of a catch.

Chris Chambers has made 4-5 catches close to or as good as that the last couple years. Doesn't mean he's as good as Harrison, just means he can make pretty catches. Plenty of guys in the league can make a pretty catch.

Fair enough! I don't get to see much of the Fins, so this is good info!

I think, the only guy who could make that catch as often as Marvin would, is Torry Holt. But I've also said for some time I think Holt is the best WR in the game, so maybe I'm biased, but I don't think Holt gets enough love.

Holt is awesome! I am biased towards MH, but Holt is terrific!

Big time players make big time plays in big time situations in big time games.

This play was outstanding, it was on 3rd down, and at a time where his team REALLY needed 7pts and not 3.

Thanks for posting those pics pizzatyme. For all you IDIOTS posting hate when a guy is just posting some cool pics, go find a life.

Good job, Pizza. As good as both Harrison and Holt are, I would venture to say they are both underrated as the media continues to concentrate on the antics of weaker receivers who do stupid stuff for attention's sake (I'm looking at you Moss, Chad, and Owens).

There are so many dumber things on this forum for people to make fun of than a fan posting some links to a pic of a great player making a great play.

:goodposting: Harrison and Holt are the best WRs in the NFL right now IMO. I'm sick of hearing about how TO is the best WR, the best talent blah, blah, blah. Good clutch catch by Harrison, I've watched Owens drop two huge catches the past couple of weeks, that's not something the top WR in the NFL.

Not a very good pass by Manning.
Yeah, it was stupid of him to throw it to a spot where only his closely-guarded teammate had a chance to catch it. What was he thinking?
Its understandable given the circumstances in Indy. The majority of Manning's targets have gone to Wayne for the past five weeks, so he is used to working with a younger, faster WR. When he goes to Harrison, he has to make the adjustment to not lead him as much, that's all.

But, he doesn't bring the baggage. I'd take him over either. But, I'd take Torry Holt over any of the 3.

Lots of guys COULD have. But do they in that situation? He did, and that's what matters. Great play at the right time. He's not overly physical. He just has great moves, creates seperation, and has great hands. Most talented receiver? No way, but there's only one receiver playing right now I'd rather have on my team, and that's Torry Holt.

Not a very good pass by Manning.
I disagree. Not a perfect pass, but it was where only his guy was getting it, off of the WR's outside shoulder. He released it a step early, maybe, we don't know that. Maybe Harrison was late picking it up? The ball was where it was supposed to be on that route. Maybe it's a little hot. I thought it was a good, not great pass. It was a great catch, on a pass that's off by half a step. Who's at fault for the half step? We don't know. But, Harrison made the great catch, so it doesn't matter. He makes a lot of great plays to pad Mannings stats.

I generally agree, but here's the way that I'd say it: Harrison and Holt are the two most technique sound WR's in the game. If it's 3rd and 10 and I need a precise 11-yard route to get the first down, there's nobody in the game I'd want to throw to over those two guys. In terms of being professionals, I respect them the most in the game because they work the hardest at their craft and it shows. They are in the mold of Jerry Rice in their approach and in the end result. In terms of the most explosive or athletic WR's, the answer is different. That's when you start talking about TO, Randy Moss and Steve Smith. If I'm trailing late in a game and need a big play, those are the guys I'd want on my team to make a play. They're capable on any given play of changing a ball game all by themselves. Their pure, raw athleticism and explosiveness is something to behold.
