Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Book 7 (1 Viewer)

 I will be sitting on the beach for the next two days drinking beers and reading. I can't wait to see what the horcruxes are.

I can't wait for this whole headache to go away. I have come to hate all things harry potter.:bookstoreowner:
Please share what you guys go through.
Well, I'm sitting here in the back room and I can hear the kids start to line up. There is still another 2 and a half hours before the register starts its sweet song of  but the kids are here already. My newer employee's, who haven't experienced this before, are dancing around eager to throw the gate up and get started. I'm eager to stomp their heads. My main concern is: we have hundreds of reserves and I'm not sure I can make to sunrise without selling out. A riot will ensue. You'll be reading about me in sunday's paper. "Bookstore sells out, crowd attacks owner. Owner heard whimpering "...but I'm an FBG...""

My wife decided not to go tonight, and instead just pick it up in the morning. I told her she would regret it as it will be the last time event we will see for quite a while.

This brought up two questions (not sure if they have been discussed):

1. Will we ever see another literary phenomenon like this?

2. Will it be possible to get the book tomorrow and read it a a leisurely pace (finish in a couple of days), and not know what happens? I fully expect Sunday's paper to have the headline being "******* DIES".

Can you count heads and if needed, tell the people in the back of the line that there might not be enough copies ?

Have you looked at it, read it, skimmed it or what? Also, what precautions did you have to take before tonight? Finally, when did you receive the books? Just curious.

1. I don't see it happening for quite some time, if ever.2. Yes. as long as you stay offline. I don't think newspapers, etc.. will have major spoilers in it. Not sure how long it took for the big death of book 6 to hit mainstream though.

Yeah- how many calls have you gotten today...
I swear, I wanna rip the phone out of the wall...people have been calling this evening asking to either: cancel, add more money to their deposit, or ask questions about the midnight opening.YOU'VE HAD 5 MONTHS PEOPLE!!! DEAL WITH IT!

I knew of Dumbys death well in advance after those tards told the papers. Also, I just sent you an offer in c2, lol. Vick, lmao!

Anybody going to get it tonight without having one pre-ordered?
I am going to Wally World and not expecting much of a hassle. Sure, there will probably be a crowd so I am showing up an hour early or so just in case... got some other shopping to do as well... but they printed up 12 million or so of these things... there will be extras.

Yes, I have looked at it, but have not read the entire thing. I read the last 3 chapters, so I know what happens and all that ;) Precautions? Mall provided security, and we had to pay out the nose for it. We got the books yesterday.OK, the gate went down. It's time to start up the preparations. Bag and bookmark the books ahead of time so everything goes smoothly(and fast!). Less than 3 hours! Yeah! Back to a normal life!

I am.....I better be....I hope.
Was going to try the closest Wal-Mart. I called and they said they had 600 copies ordered. ;)
How big is the area where you live that your Wally World is covering? How many book stores do you have in your area? There are 3 decent sized book stores in my area but they are all across town. Wally World better have enough... I am not to worried.

The one I am going to is in a town of about 10-15K. Don't expect much of a problem. The guy said that there were pre-orders, so I'll be screwed if 570 out of their 600 are reserved though.

The B&N by me has had a line outside the store since 2:00 p.m. I drove by at 8:45 and there had to be at least 300 people waiting. INSANE. BTW way, my wife and I are going at 11:30. I will have my iPod on to avoid the jerks that will drive by screaming about who dies...and it will happen.

That is a good strategy since you probably wont get out of the store until 1 am or later. For book 6 I waited in the morning to get a higher ticket number to be in the front of the line at night... was about number 100 or so in line and got out of there by 1:30 am. It was fun and all but I dont want to do that this time. Hopefully Wally World will be a simple walk in... walk out in no more than a half hour.

My MIL pre-ordered a copy for me as a BDay gift. She's picking it up tomorrow. Downside is that she lives over an hour away and my wife doesn't want to visit.

I think I'll be making a drive tomorrow night with one or both of my kids to visit grandma's house. :pokey:

That's why I am going to go the Wally World route. I went to the BN last time and it was a mess. They have parties for it, so there's more people there than at other places. I don't think I got the book until about 2:30-3:00 when I went there.BTW, The BN by me had a flier that said they won't let anybody in after 11:00...

Headed to Barnes and Noble with my daughter soon and will stand in line for 3+ hours. Bringing lawnchairs, an Uno deck, a cooler with water and sodas, some snacks, and our Ipods. We have also seen all of the Harry Potter films on opening night too. Pretty fun hanging with the other geeks on these days.

:pokey: Would've been cool if I had kids old enough to give a crap or even a wife that got into it. Feel like an uber-geek going to this stuff alone.

Totally agree with the kids part. Not knowing if something like this will happen again is a bit of a downer. Kids would have been great to have but I would have had to have planned that ~10 years ago. That was not happening.

My son's only 9mon now, so by the time that he would be able to get into it, it'll probably be lame to read HP. :(

Also, what I did for each of the last two books is I grabbed some of the boxes these books come in. They are great boxes for moving and for storing stuff. If you guys can get a hold of even one box it will come in handy later on. I think oddball can attest to it that they are strong boxes and as they are free you cant pass that up.

Christmas Eve anyone? I was trying to nap so I can read more easily through the night, but I don't think I'm going back to bed. My intent is just to go to Wal-Mart as well as it's by far the easiest thing to do, but there are about five different big opening night parties at bookstores around the city, including live owls at the place where we bought books for Lawrence University. I don't think I'll go to any of the other parties because they feature things like costume contests and finger painting, but I might want to check out the owls, especially because there's a chance I'll know people there. Even if I go, I'm thinking about cutting out about half an hour early to head to Wal-Mart for a faster book transaction. Plus it might be cheaper there; I'm not sure about that one.

Dodds, as fellow Harry Potter fans, there is an unspoken bond between us in MOX HP 1 that should make trading easier. My team is Mathematically Eliminated for future reference.

Buckna (Buckaroo Bonzais) is also a good guy I guess.

I think online had a list price of 18.78

Man I wish I was a 16 year old boy again. Just went over to the local Borders to see what was going on. It was packed. Alot of kids dressed up prety cool. I saw A Mad-Eye Mooney, Hagrid, Maggie Smith character, Older Malfoy, Quidditch Harry, Sorting Hat Harry....they all looked really good as if the kids put alot of time in thier costumes. The most interesting group though were the huge groups of 14-18 girls dressed up in Hogworth's School uniforms. Alot of them were for lack of better words; really slutty looking. These weren't hogs or dogs either.....these girls has serious potential (and in some cases looked to have reached potential). Tiny skirts, shirts buttoned 3/4 of the way, knee socks.....it was like a Hogworths Playboy Mansion for minors.

I was just at Wal-Mart, and on all the tv's they were showing the author reading the book live.....
:2cents:
It was definitely her.Looked like she was about halfway through it. Just sitting on a chair, reading. I dont follow, so I didnt even stop to listen. 10-15 people standing and listening. :lmao:
I think in London they have a big party and she reads parts of the books to the audience. Probably a tape delay of that.

All the grocery stores are gonna have them at midnight here. SHould be no problem. Wife and daughter are heading out in a few.

my feet hurt. the crowd sucked. if it weren't for strangers giving me money, i would hate customers. i want a beer but all the bars are closed by now. damn.
