Wow, fascinating idea, I hadn't considered that.

From what I recall of how a horcrux has to be created, it doesn't seem possible, but since this is JKR's world, a horcrux could have been accidentally created, or someone maybe could have created one for Dumbledore, or Grindlewald may have been attempting to create one by killing Dumbledore and the spell reversed, etc...

I still don't think it has happened, but that's great out of the box thinking.

And even if it's not exactly what happened, it could be in the ballpark as to how Dumbledore could have survived.

Again, I think it's most likely Dumbledore really is dead, but we know he will still be a major part of book 7 in some way.

I agree as well. I also agree with most of your predictions from the other thread. As far as CE's predictions go, I disagree with a few, but the only one I have a huge issue with is the Mirror of Erised. I believe JK Rowling has ruled out the mirror for this book already.

Interesting.

After re-reading HBP, I had a thought that what Dumbledore drank in the cave might have been Draught of the Living Dead, but it's description in the cave is much different, IRRC, from when Slughorn had it in the first potions lesson.

I think the Draught of the Living Dead will play some role, since it's obviously quite a powerful potion and it's the only one that was introduced during the first potions lesson that wasn't used to further the plot.

I finally decided to read these books, so I got through the first 5 last week and I'll be finishing Half Blood Prince either tonight or tomorrow. So, I reserve a copy of Hallows at the library and it turns out that I am roughly #500 on the waiting list.

Oh well. I figured I could get the whole thing done in two weeks and I probably could have.

Not knowing the end of Prince yet, I'm thinking that the two people to die are going to be Hermoine and Ron. It seems like Harry is becoming the tragic hero who wins in the end but at the cost of everything he loves. It would make some sense to have his two closest friends join his family as people he's lost in this journey.

Or, Rowling could be screwing with everyone and it's really his owl and Dobby that bite it.

I finally decided to read these books, so I got through the first 5 last week and I'll be finishing Half Blood Prince either tonight or tomorrow. So, I reserve a copy of Hallows at the library and it turns out that I am roughly #500 on the waiting list.Oh well. I figured I could get the whole thing done in two weeks and I probably could have.Not knowing the end of Prince yet, I'm thinking that the two people to die are going to be Hermoine and Ron. It seems like Harry is becoming the tragic hero who wins in the end but at the cost of everything he loves. It would make some sense to have his two closest friends join his family as people he's lost in this journey.Or, Rowling could be screwing with everyone and it's really his owl and Dobby that bite it.

It wouldn't surprise me in the least if Dobby dies. He's been an irritant at times, but he's always had Harry's best interest and protection in mind. If Dobby dies, I can see a lot of people being upset with it, because it would come out of left field and I find him to be quite a likable character.

I BELIEVE that they use the pre-orders as a gauge of how many they need in the store, or more for insurance that they won't run out right away. I know I've gone to Sam's club the last 2 times the morning the books came out and there was a huge table full of them. You should be able to get it that day no problem- next week might be a different story but I don't remember not seeing book 6 everywhere I went when that came out.

What if Harry is really Snape's kid? He could have used the invisibility cloak and was there when voldy attacked Lilly. Snape is hard on Harry because he is really his son, but in no way resembles Snape. Add the fact that only Snape and Lilly knew this, everyone suspects Harry acts like James. It would make sense as to why Snape is on DD's side, since voldy killed the love of his life and his son's mother.

Enter Maury Povich and the Paternity Testers.

I can picture the confrontation now..."Harry, Dumbledore never told you what REALLY happened to your father."

"He told me enough, he told me you were involved in giving Lord Voldemort their hiding place and leading to their death."

"No, I am your father! Now join me, and we can rule the world as father and son!"

"NO" - Harry jumps off the Astronomy tower only to be saved by his heretofore unknown "sister" Hermione.

I have a feeling that plot twist would get some pretty poor reviews...

I suddenly had a mental image of Voldemort using the Cruciatus curse on Harry, with Snape looking pensively back and forth between the two of them and finally picking up Voldemort and throwing him down some bottomless pit behind the curtains in the arch of death.

That is too funny. But I do like the love spell theory. i was always sceptical on how Lilly's love really saved Harry. They never explained it in detail like other things, and this would explain it.

Nope, pretty sure it is the real thing. I saw a few pictures. It is the actual book photographed 2 pages at a time. Not the best reading quality, but if someone really couldn't wait, it's out there.

Nope, pretty sure it is the real thing. I saw a few pictures. It is the actual book photographed 2 pages at a time. Not the best reading quality, but if someone really couldn't wait, it's out there.

Figured these sites would be shut down pretty quickly. I do always underestimate the nerdery that occurs on the web though.Edit to add: WTF is a bit torrent anyway??

Im going to Wally World at midnight to get mine. I figure they will have some. Until than I am done with this thread.

For the last book I stopped in just before midnight and there were quite a few people mingling around. They brought out a whole pallet of books at midnight, and there were still plenty left after everyone had gone through. Checking out took longer than waiting for the book, but the whole thing didn't take more than 10-15 minutes. I expect this time the wait could be a little worse though. There were about 8 midnight showings of the movie on opening night. Still, I don't think the wait will be too bad.

Finished Prince last night. Ending seemed forced to me. But, it wasn't too surprising.

I also read the spoilers bit torrent thing above. If true, I can't say I'm shocked and it seems to be fairly continual of where the story can go. Again, if true, it's not like the end takes us 180 degrees from where it leads us.

Scholastic gets subpoena to identify spoilerThe LA Times is reporting that the US Harry Potter publisher obtained a subpoena to learn the identity of a user who allegedly posted copies of Deathly Hallows on a California website.Scholastic said in a court filing Monday that "materials hosted on Photobucket.com's system" contain materials that infringe copyrights owned by Scholastic and J.K. Rowling, author of the Harry Potter books. Photobucket.com, a News Corp. unit, is a website for sharing photos and videos on social networks such as MySpace.The subpoena was sent to Gaia Interactive Inc. in San Jose seeking the identity of a user on gaiaonline.com, a social network, according to the filing in San Francisco federal court.Gaia complied with the subpoena, removed the material and temporarily banned the user from the site, said Gaia spokesman Bill Danon.

Was the spoilers link posted on here before to a Photobucket.com website? Not sure but the lawyers appear to be on the ball for now. But, damage is done if the actual manuscript is in bittorrent form. Darn it... I should be done with this thread for now.

Nope - looks like somebody just set up a website to talk about what's in the book. There are just a couple of pics of the book and it's contents.

Yep, this will be happening more and more. Just talked to the librarian in town and they got their copies a couple days ago. Nobody would know/care if the local librarian opened the box early so I am sure a ton of small business owners and their kids have the book and have read it already.

I did not think private stores/libraries had the books yet. B&N are holding them in their distribution centers... supposedly, for now. It is only Tuesday... if books went out on Thursday night - Friday morning they would most likely get everywhere by Friday night... no?

She showed me the box with DO NOT OPEN, etc. plastered all over it. Since it's Tues, she must've said they came yesterday or this morning. Don't know how common this is though. Yeah, if she posted the book online and got caught her ### would be sued. I am just saying it would be easy to open the box, read the book, and post "predictions"/spoilers online. If I was her I'd be reading it tonight, that much I know.
