The Derrick Harvey holdout is over.

On the 33rd day of the holdout, Harvey agreed to basically take the Jaguars’ last offer, although the incentives were changed to make them easier to get.

Harvey will get $17.175 million in guaranteed money, $23.8 million in base package and $33.4 million in max package, including incentives and escalators.

The incentives were originally tied to 70 percent play time but now range from 55 percent to 75 percent.

Harvey is driving to Jacksonville and hopes to fly to Washington with the team today.

He was the only rookie holding out.

Why does it always seem like players who hold out this long get injured in the first game they play?

I still fundamentally struggle to understand how and why 22 year olds, that have never played a game in the NFL, warrant such incredibly huge contracts. The NFL is a totally different game than college and we have seen tons of players over the years never make the transition effectively. At some point in time the agents and the teams need to understand this as well and stop paying these inexperienced kids huge money. The holdouts show how immature they are; how effectively can that maturity level translate to the "professional" level....I guess the league is willing to gamble with millions when faced with that question.

Why would you, as a player, let incentives be tied to this after a very lengthy hold out. If I'm the Jags and we're winning games, that guy rides the pine till game 9. Oh, and work him like a dog in practices every week....

Because they sell tickets. Every year fans of all 32 teams want to come out and see the new guy play.I look at it as them getting paid for PR more than on field production.

What a dumb holdout.
 All he managed to do was decrease the qualifications for some of the escalators. But since it's tied to playing time, and Groves has looked really good in the preseason, he may not even end up meeting those escalators anyway. Well, this also officially means that Jason Peters is the only holdout in the entire NFL.

The Jags won plently of games last year, but their inability to put pressure on the quarterback led to their playoff loss. That's why they made the jump to get him. They'll need him on the field early in the season to practice what he missed in camp.

Teams don't make up for a player missing practice by tossing him out there during games. Players that miss practice have to try and make it up as quickly as possible in practice. And since he'll more than likely be doing it with the second teamers, it's going to be even more difficult to get more playing time. Unless the guy is a total beast, I think Groves will end up with quite a bit more playing time than Harvey.Harvey faces an even bigger challenge because Groves as looked good and been there the whole time now. There's not as much reason to rush Harvey in when Groves is already filling a DE spot nicely.

The guy everyone has forgotten about is Reggie Hayward. They signed him to a huge free agent deal not long ago. He was worse than mediocre last year, but now he's more than a year removed from his surgery and has supposedly regained his quickness.

If Groves and Harvey aren't ready to go, which it appears they are not, Hayward and Spicer are probably going to be the guys getting the most snaps.
