Has anyone played in a league with the following (1 Viewer)

Anyone here play in a league where you get points for the # of carries your rb gets? .25 per carry?

a friend was saying that if we have points per reception, we should have points per carry as well

I also played in bonus points for 20-25, and 30 carries, and the systems rewards workhorse backs. I think it was a bonus of 5 @ 20 with 3 and 3 being added thereafter, but the WRs were set up that way too. PPR I think was originally established to be a evening factor between RBs and WRs. Seeing as how 20 cpg is typical for a starting back, and about 6-7 catches typical for a WR1, .25 would be a bit low, but considering that RBs still typically see more yardage and TDs than WRs, sounds about right.

i dont like 1 point per reception leagues . but i do like this setup :

.25 per reception

.1 per rush attempt

Our league gives points per carry.

Briefly something like

1 pt / Completion

1 pt / rushing attempt

1 pt / reception (2 for receivers)

and

1 pt / yard from scrimmage

for everyone...

We have this scoring system not to balance the draft (there are lots of posts talking about that) but to balance the different roster "sets" that we can start.

Standard 1QB 2RB 2WR 1TE 1K 1D

Power 1QB 3RB 2TE 1K 1D

RunNShoot 1QB 1RB 4WR 1K 1D

I have heard of leagues giving points per reception without giving points per carry, so I dont think it is a must. The only way it might be required if you are trying to balance different roster possibilities. If someone thinks they can balance the draft by changing only 1 positions scoring then they need to take a look at the VBD principles that are all over the web, and well described at footballguys.com.

Thanks guys. I was thinking the same, but this guy keeps saying that

if there is ppr, there should be ppc (pp carry)

.25 per catch and per carry

this will really really favor the rb's in the league

I don't htink this is a good idea. hmm

Inside the position it shouldn't change things too much. The correlation coefficient of the ranking of RBs based on standard scoring and PPR scoring is 0.96, with guys like Westbrook and Chestor Taylor being big movers. The CC of RB ranks with standard scoring and .25PPC is 0.99.

The big movers would be somone like Westbrook and Lewis. In standard scoring Westbrook beats Lewis by 31, but in .25PPC he wins by just 3 points.

I'm drafting for someone in a league that has stardard scoring and awards one point per carry, a point for a reception, and a point for a completion. It dimishes the signficance of yards gained especially for QBs who get a point for fifty passing yards. I think its a horrible scoring system.

If a QB clicks on short passes, twenty five completions, but only gains 120 yards he'd get, 27 points. Another QB throws for 380 yards on 20 competions, he'd get 27 points.

Its also a bad idea to score for rush attempts/receptions this way as well. Example, if a RB has a two hundred yard rushing game and a twenty yard reception in only ten attempts he'd get (one point per twenty rush/rec yards) 23 points. If a part time RB has twelve carries for 20 yards and catches six balls for twenty yards he'd have 22 points. I do not think it is fair to award for merely running or catching the ball. Players should be awarded for what they do AFTER they get the ball in their hands in my humble opinion.

Just out of curiousity what would those scoring rules, one pt per, REC, Rush Attempt, Completion, do to the rankings based on PROJECTIONS for the upcoming season? We are already on round nine so it won't help me, just curious.

One league with PPC and PPR plus Minus points for pass attempts and plus points per completion

Number of Passing TDs 1-10 4.0 points each

Passing Yards 0-24 0

Passing Yards 25-299 1 point for every 25

Passing Yards 300-999 12.0 points for 300, and then 2.0 point for every 20 thereafter

Pass Attempts 1-99 -1.0 point each

Pass Completions 1-99 2.0 points each

Pass Interceptions Thrown 1-4 -3.0 points each

Pass Interceptions Thrown 5-99 -15.0 points for 5, and then -4.0 point for every 1 thereafter

QB Sacked 1-99 -1.0 point each

Passing 2 Pointers 1-99 2.0 points each

Number of Rushing TDs 1-10 6.0 points each

Rushing Yards 0-9 0

Rushing Yards 10-149 1 point for every 10

Rushing Yards 150-999 15.0 points for 150, and then 2.0 point for every 10 thereafter

Rush Attempts 5-24 1 point for every 5

Rush Attempts 25-99 5.0 points for 25, and then 1 point for every 3 thereafter

Rushing 2 Pointers 1-99 2.0 points each

Number of Receiving TDs 1-10 6.0 points each

Receiving Yards 0-19 0

Receiving Yards 20-99 1 point for every 20

Receiving Yards 100-999 5.0 points for 100, and then 1 point for every 15 thereafter

Receptions 1-9 1.0 point each

Receptions 10-99 10.0 points for 10, and then 3.0 point for every 2 thereafter

The projections don't change that much (at least in the scoring system I posted). I think you make an extreme case with your example (not many 10 carry 200 yard backs in the league), but there will always be extremes in any scoring system that are out of wack. Consider Jerome Bettis's 3 carry 2 TD game this past year. In most normal scoring systems he scored 12 (or 12.something if you have decimals for yardage). That means he scored more then Someone like Portis who ran the ball 25 times for 100 yards and controlled the entire game. That seems out of wack to me.Most of FF is about oportunity. And scoring receptions, carries, and completions represents a little of that. What they do after that always counts and adds to their score. But if you can identify a running back who will get 25 carries a game, then he should be somewhat valuable whether his yardage and TD numbers are impressive that year or not. He is still the teams work horse.

But the best way to see is to look at actual game stats. I play in all kinds of leagues, and they are all have similar results despite different scoring systems.
