Has Jerome Harrison Passed Morris as the Lions #2 RB? (1 Viewer)

Does anyone have any confirmation that Harrison is likely to be the backup to Best?
Nope, not yet. But the Lions drafted Leshoure for a reason. They were not happy with Morris at #2 as he has very little burst. Harrison has shown more burst in pre-season than Morris has ever shown. Morris actually may be favored for short yardage situations, but should Best go down, I am about 90% sure Harrison will be the man getting the most carries. The only real benefit I see Morris having over Harrison is pass blocking.

I'd imagine that they would both play in the event of a Best injury. Harrison offers more as a ball-carrier, but Morris is more reliable in pass protection (and has more experience in Detroit's offense).

How much better is Morris at pass blocking? That is a very big attribute to have an advantage in, especially with a franchise QB with the injury history of Stafford.

The answer is, there is no answer. I don't think the coaches know. There will start off splitting the duties and whoever does better will get the bulk of the work. I think Harrison has the advantage, but should Harrison have a bad case of fumbles or miss blocking assignments, that will change. My money is on Harrison, who also has a much bigger upside, but it is all crystal ball reading at this time.

Maurice Morris - RB - Lions Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press considers Maurice Morris the "2" to Jerome Harrison's "2b" in the Lions' backfield.

Birkett watches the team practice daily, so he has a good handle on the running back pecking order. Should Jahvid Best go down during the year, Morris and Harrison would likely form a rotation, leaving Best without a great handcuff. Morris is better in the passing game than Harrison, particularly in blitz pickup. Related: Jerome Harrison
