Have we all missed it on Austin Collie? (1 Viewer)

Or Anthony Gonzalez coming back and Collie would have to fight for being the #3.

Wow, 10 receptions, 131 yards, 1 TD. Looks like Manning has confidence in him.

this week and next week it will be Clark, then next Garcon, then Collie, then Gonzalez....he takes what the defense gives.

I didn't see the game but I saw enough last year to convince me that IND could be the new NO. Any week it could be any one of those guys.

I watched the game locally here in Houston. Manning was under pressure all game long and didn't have much time to throw it. All of Collie's catches were within ten yards from the line of scrimmage. Due to Manning having to unload the ball so quickly most of the game Collie was his target of choice. If the protection issues persist then Collie could have some real value in that offense. Conversely, if Indy fixes the protection issue then it goes back to Collie being a fringe WR3.

Another thing to consider is the fact that Garcon had the butterfingers today and dropped multiple balls. I think Manning started looking away from him as the game wore on and turned more of his attention to Collie.

If you can tell after that, you're better than I. Peyton threw the ball 57 times. His targets?

Clark 13

Garcon 11

Collie 11

Wayne 10

Honestly, if they were all getting 10+ targets each game you'd almost be a fool not to start each and every one of them. But, Manning isn't going to have 45 targets to those 4 each week to spread around, so it's too early to tell.

One could argue that Garcon's 11 targets were a continuation of last season's 2nd half and the playoffs, and it was the 11 targets to Collie that was the outlying statistic, and they could plausibly be right.

I think a lot of people will now start Collie next week and be dissapointed. However, Gonzalez nicked his ankle, so with all the WR3 targets, he might be good.

It's honestly hard to tell anything from a QB performance like that one. When Manning makes mistakes and the team falls behind it leads to huge fantasy days for everyone. So the better question may be how many games do you expect the Colts to fall behind this season?

Indy and Saints have the same deal... lots of weapons; hence not sure who will be the real deal every week. But the money pick will always be Manning and Brees. To a lesser extent (and no way I am saying the Bears are going to be on same level as Indy or Saints on O), with a Mike Martz offense, you will never know who will have a good game between Aroma, Knox, Hester, Olsen, Forte and Chester Taylor....they will all catch passes (in fact Earl Bennett will also add to this equation at some point soon). The money pick there is also Cutler. Same thing with Packers....Rodgers is the money pick; but between Driver, Jennings, Finley, whoever the RB is with Grant out, James Jones, not sure who will be the money pick consiustently. Just last year, we saw how Jennings struggled some weeks a lot.

The new NO?! They were doing it before Brees got to NO... Manning has been producing multiple ranking FF players for years... There are typically 3+ receiving players on that team that are relevant in FF.. Usually 3 ranking starters... Several QB's throughout NFL history have been able to spread the ball around Warner had been doing it for quite some time. He'd always been able to keep 3 targets feed a steadily...

Collie sure looked like a poor man's Welker to me last year. Now he's showing what he can do.
Collie is faster than Welker and I think it's the Gonzalez talk that buried Collie for many, which appears to be a mistake. Collie has great hands and his work ethic endears him to Manning - a great match.

That said, expecting more than 3-5 catches per game on a weekly basis is a bit much. I think he can be a decent WR3.

I saw this stat on Saturday and it made me think:

Targets caught by Colts WR's not named Wayne:

Pierre Garcon 51%

Austin Collie 67%

Anthony Gonzalez 72%

And remembering Garcon's wonderful drop in the NFL Championship game, I thought to myself the thought that Collie might be someone Manning might start to want to turn to.

I witnessed several passes (didn't watch too much of the game) to Garcon that fell to the ground inexplicably. One for a td where manning went to Reggie on the very next play. After a while, you start to lose trust in your WR if he isn't reliable in crucial situations. I would rather be a Collie owner than Garcon at this point.
