Having both NE Tight Ends (1 Viewer)

I am in 2 leagues where Aaron Hernandez is still floating around on waivers. One league I have Olsen as my backup, and another I have Lance Kendricks. In both leagues my starter is Gronkowski. But I came to thinking, should I get both New England Tight Ends and worry about bye weeks later? If both are productive, then I can choose the hot hand, or if one gets hurt, its as if I handcuffed them. Is anyone else doing this or does this seem like a bad strategy?

It depends on your scoring system. I think Hernandez will hit 70 receptions this year. Mike Reiss, leader of the pack of Pats beat writers, thinks he will hit 80. In a PPR league, I would rather have Hernandez. Gronkowski should probably get more TDs (and also fewer receptions).

I would rather have either of the Pats TEs than Kendricks. I also wonder how often the Panthers will get close enough to the goal line to score TDs. New England outscored the Panthers by 322 points last year! So that IMO limits Olsen's upside. (I realize new QB, new coach, etc. in CAR, but still they will be lapped by the Pats offensively.)

Neither is ppr, and one is TD Heavy. Both also have Jared Cook out on waivers, but I think I may pull the trigger on getting Hernandez in both leagues for the time being.

If you can buy the argument that the Pats are going to explode offensively, and that this is a pass first team; further that both the Patriots TE's are matchup nightmares and Brady's trusted targets, then you must be willing to allow that both have value.

In my league, I can use the TE as a flex, so I took both Gronk and Hern and plan on starting both each and every week up until their week 7 bye. For one week, I'll pick someone off the waiver wire and hope for the best. But I think this duo provides as much upside as Antonio Gates paired with an average WR3. I don't see either of these guys being a waste of a roster spot. In fact, most weeks they will be outscoring typical WR3's.
