Love Poipu. We stayed at an Air BnB across from the wall pretty regularly. Stayed in Princeville last month, love the beaches up NorthHeading to Kauai (Poipu Beach) most of November.
Good chance to see some activity at Haleakala. Its been very active this year with fountains several feet in the air. Seems to be on in cycles of a few weeks. Today's update from USGS Reports:Heading to the Big Island first week of October for a family trip. Bringing the kids, grandkids, parents. Multiple condos in Waikoloa. Looking forward to it
Those are some very nice resorts in Wailea!!! Lots of sun too. We were never fortunate to stay there. Always stayed in Kaanapali. There's so many micro climates on the islands but usually sunny in Wailea. We love Hawaii and would move there but our grandkids are a big part of our life right now. Maybe in about 5 years.4 trips to Maui and loved them all... no idea what things are like now after the fires.
Four Seasons, Grand Waliea, Hyatt Regency and then a condo.
If have a big group or family the condo is great as you can gather together like family, BBQ, etc. All three hotels were great.
I haven't been to any other islands but Maui feels like the goldilocks... not too big and not too small. Not over crowded but also civilization. Plenty of options for stuff to do.

Time to get a boat.On the Big Island now. Spectacular. Only thing that won’t be spectacular is getting to the airport with main roads closed for the Iron Man on Saturday
Did you play any golf?On the Big Island now. Spectacular. Only thing that won’t be spectacular is getting to the airport with main roads closed for the Iron Man on Saturday
This needs to be an instagram post with video and “don’t fear the pooper” background music.Since getting back from Hawaii last month, I would like to announce that I have finally perfected my recipe for Spam Musubi. It is *chef’s kiss*
Yes 2 rounds at Waikoloa Beach resort. Our condo was on the course so super easy. They have 3 nines so mixed it up. Great range. It’s not Mauna Lani but we played for $73 instead of $300Did you play any golf?On the Big Island now. Spectacular. Sad to hear about Beach HouseJust returned from 16 days on Kauai. Always a great visit. However the restaurants are getting more pricey and the portions are shrinking. The "macademia nut crusted fresh fish" is probably on every menu. They use to include lots of crushed mac nuts in the batter but now you get a few crushed nuts sprinkled on the finished fish. Costs run $30-65 with most around $40. We were underwhelmed with our meal at The Beach House, usually one of our favorite places. But a new place we went to in Hanalei,Bar Acuda, was a great surprise. This year we discovered the rainbow euchalyptus trees which were interesting. I always enjoy Mai Tai's and enjoy the different versions. Cocktails still mostly $15-20 everywhere. We were at the early start of whale season but they seem to be early this year as we saw them many times from our lanai. Also saw dolphins, flying fish and turtles all from our lanai.
We stayed in two ocean front condos at Makahuena (bldg 3 and 5). Costs are usually less if you book directly with the owners. Weather was great. The trade winds were blowing pretty good the first week. An hour west and you are top of Waimea Canyon and an hour North is Hanalei/Princeville. Went back to the Rum Safari at Koloa Rum. Spent two separate days at The Grand Hyatt resort using a Resort Pass.
The turtles crawl up and sleep at Poipu Beach. They use to just show up at sunset and maybe 5-10 of them. Now we are seeing 30-50 and lifeguards said there are over 100 by midnight.
A few other Kauai treats include the Sugarloaf pineapples (lighter in color, no real core and extremely sweet), Lydgate chocolate and Kauai Coffee (we order a 5# bag every couple of months.
A really nice photo gallery in Koloa is Lattitudes. We have been looking at a couple of pictures there the last several visits and finally purchased a large one of the Kalalau Valley (NaPali Voast).
It was packed and many people seemed to be enjoyinging it. Just wasn't what we were use to. We were going back for our anniversary but cancelled that reservation as a result. Not as much "aloha" spirit by the staff either.Sad to hear about Beach HouseJust returned from 16 days on Kauai. Always a great visit.
