HBO Hard Knocks 2014: Atlanta Falcons (1 Viewer)

Hard Knocks excerpt from Peter King's MMQB:

This is why Hard Knocks is like that Cosmo Kramer portrait.

Remember the Seinfeld episode when the society lady sees the oil painting of Kramer and says, He is a loathsome, offensive brute, yet I cannot look away? Well, the Falcons Hard Knocks series, five one-hour shows between now and the final cut of the roster, debuts Tuesday night on HBO (10 p.m. Eastern Time), and the producers have more than 400 hours of footage to cull down for the first hour.

One scene very likely to make the final cut is this one:

Running back Steven Jackson, 31, has his running-back/fullback group clustered around him before the first practice of camp. The group finishes a pre-camp prayer, and Jackson indicates to the eight players around himall of them youngerthat he wants to speak.

Hey manI just want to say one thing too, he begins, and all eyes go to the 10-year vet.

Its a lot of yalls first training camp. Nothing different, man. Footballs football. When you get between the lines, your God-given abilitys going to take over. All I do is encourage you to be confident in yourself. Motivate one another. Push and try to be better. Competitions going to bring the best out of everybody. At the end of the day, only so many men gonna make this team. But at the end of the day we can still be brothers. At the end of the day we can still uplift each other. Thats what life is about. Know what Im saying? Regardless what your paycheck reflects, youre cared about amongst your brotherhood here, and not just what you can do for a coach or an organization. Know what Im saying?

I made a lot of money in my career. Had a lot of success. But at the end of the day, I appreciated when somebody genuinely cared about me. I will do that for you. I want you to know, whatever you need, whatever you ask me, I will try to make sure you HAVE that information. And if I dont know, I will try to find a resource to help you with it.

When we walk on the field, we compete. When we walk OFF the field, we brothers. Know what Im saying?

I take responsibility for being the leader of this room. Cant nobody relate to us but this circle of people right now. We miss a block, we gonna make it right. We gonna make it right together. Theres no isolation. We gotta make it happen together. All right?

Hands in the middle of the group now, one on top of another.

"RBs on three. One-two-three..."

Nine voices: RBs!!!!

Pretty good TV right there.

Does anybody know if there's an alternative way of watching this show besides paying for HBO through my cable company? I've already had to upgrade my package to the top tier to get the NFL Network and I'll have to pay to get Redzone and now I'll have to pay them to get HBO just to watch this one show. I'm fine with shelling out the $20-$30 it will cost to watch these 5 episodes on HBO but would rather that money go somewhere else and not to my cable company. I'm already paying them almost double just to be able to watch football.

Go watch at a bar. That's what I do. Last year, bunch of us old drunks sat around and called Taylor Mays a powderpuff while we drank skunked PBR from dirty taplines. Good times.

Thx for sharing this and I hope it's on the show

Wife said she wants to watch it because Kroy Bierman might be on it and he's a housewife or something in Atlanta. Whatever works I guess.

LOL...my GF loves that show...i just posted the brawl he was in on her wall because of his wife...she will love watching this just because of him

So far it seems like all the players are married to reality tv stars or women who are trying to be reality tv stars.

It's unbelievable that an NFL owner hired Mike Tice to be a head coach. I picture Tice sitting there farting out a song during his interview.

It's only a one hour snippet of one week of camp but this team seems like a total mess to me for some reason.

I usually watch this show and think the team will go 13-3 or something, too.

Wish we had seen a little more of the Oklahoma drill. That's the best part of camp.

What's your dream Oklahoma drill matchup? Larry Allen vs. Reggie White wouldn't suck.

Peria Jerry retiring without a plan, William Moore living way above his means. Can't wait to see them on the Broke sequel

I liked when Smith asked the coach if he'd fight Bierman. Sounds like he's pretty well respected. My wife watched tonight for the first time ever. And I don't think I've ever missed an episode of this show. So having Bierman should help with ratings by drawing in the housewife crowd a bit.

Hate to say it, but my first thought after seeing the palm tree and indoor pool was "how long before the bank takes possession?"

However, here are the details of the contract he signed in 2013:

$35 million over the 5 years, with a structure that includes $15 million in bonus and guaranteed money.
As long as he's not a complete dummy, that house shouldn't be a problem.

Ray Donovan is back with the narration.
It still doesn't sound like him. Mrs Bats came in towards the end and I asked her who the narrator sounds like, she had nothing. Told her who it was and she didn't believe me, showed her the credits and she proceeded to say, "that's not how he spells Liev, it's L-I-V". Yea because Liev Schrieber is like Joe Brown, there's a million of them.

Yeah, the fake Boston accent he puts on for RD sounds nothing like how he normally does. Not to mention the difference from the microphones in the NFL Films studio.
