HBO Hard Knocks 2014: Atlanta Falcons (1 Viewer)

Peria Jerry retiring without a plan, William Moore living way above his means. Can't wait to see them on the Broke sequel
Hate to say it, but my first thought after seeing the palm tree and indoor pool was "how long before the bank takes possession?"

However, here are the details of the contract he signed in 2013:

$35 million over the 5 years, with a structure that includes $15 million in bonus and guaranteed money.
As long as he's not a complete dummy, that house shouldn't be a problem.
He was sold on a house because a palm tree was inside it, I'm thinking he won't spend the rest of his money wisely.

Smith and Tice appear to be locked in a America's Dorkiest Dad competition, only nobody else knows about it. When Smith steps away from his desk and we get the reveal of boat shorts and Teva sandals, you can almost hear the Mike & The Mechanics record playing at a responsible volume.
More.

You just signed a multi-million dollar contract with the Atlanta Falcons and you could buy any house you wanted, yet you shopped around and bought a foreclosure. Is that part of your overall value system?

Yes, very much so. Why should I spend $2 million on a house when I can just be patient and save over double that and still get what I want? Some people say that time is money, but I think throwing it away for the sake of saving a month or two is ridiculous. Sure, I could’ve bought Julio Jones’ house before I found this one, but then I wouldn’t have been able to buy the car I wanted. Well, I could’ve but I would’ve felt guilty about it.

It is fair to say that you pick your battles when it comes to parting with money?

That is most definitely fair. And I’ve noticed that when people recognize me, whether it is in a shop or when I call a repairman to come out to the house, the prices seem to go up. I’m lucky that I found one honest guy to take care of things around here for me.

My girlfriend Brittni and I went shopping for furniture and some of the prices were just outrageous. So, we shopped around and found a lot of the same items just down the road for much cheaper.

What are things you will not compromise on?

Mattresses, bedding … Those are things that are going to affect how I rest and how my body feels the next day. But, I haven’t gotten into the whole luxury thread count thing yet. Some of the prices are crazy. I did have someone custom make the curtains. The windows are oddly shaped so it’s really hard to just find ones that fit the window.

I won’t compromise when it comes to what I eat and what I put in my body, especially during the season. The offseason, well, that’s a different story.

Loved the cutups of William Moore showing off his ridiculous house and Devonta Freeman being excited about his condo with new carpet, a walk in closet and a tub he could relax in lol.

My thoughts from last night,

-nice sandals mike smith

-wtf with that dude wearing secret deodorant

-Dimitrov is the biggest cheese dik GM in the league. People think he is some kind of guru because the team traded up for Julio. You can tell he LOVES being on camera and the attention.

-I don't think Arthur Blank likes Mike Tice too much

-I enjoyed how they compared Davonte Freeman to the vet when house shopping. It really gave perspective on the massive variation of salaries. He thought he was balling sitting in a tub that can be found in most new 200k homes.

-Kroy Bierman comes off as a bonehead roid head

-Jake Matthews is a beast. He would of f'd up Bierman and likely anyone on the team

-I wish they would have given more drtail on Peria leaving. Like said "he sucked not a big loss" or something. I doubt he was looking really good and walked away. He must of realized he was outside looking in.

-Mike Smith comes off as a genuinely friendly guy. He doesn't seem like a hard a5s sat all.

-Did they show Devin Hester at a all?

Cool, was wrong about him. Sounds like he has his head on straight.

I cant believe someone would be attracted to that bleach blonde, fake lips, fake boobs money hungry wench
Don't forget the four kids she spit out recently. I wanted to punch her in the face as soon as I seen her, I really hope she's not involved going forward. But he seems like as big an attention whore as her, so they're a perfect match.

Not much Julio, but he's not very outgoing anyway.

Hester is in the opening sequence...so must be a part of the story at some point.

Ill own up to it too.

So far, I think Steven Jackson beats Aaron Maybin in the arteest competition.
He wins in the motivational speech dept too. That was a great pep talk he gave to the rbs.

Regarding William Moore's house, there was an article on it locally when he bought the house. It was a foreclosure and I believe he got it for around 50% of the previous asking price.

The episode seemed forced to me...like everyone was acting up for the cameras instead of being themselves
Is this your first time seeing the series? This is pretty much what happens with every team.
I dont recall feeling that way about any of them, mind you that was a year and more ago but it seemed to stand out last night in just about every scene
Agreed. The players and coaches did seem to be acting more so than in any previous season.

Probably already discussed but has anyone ever done stats on how these Hard Knocks teams do?

I mean either FF or real football, vs the the league or their previous year.

Watched Hard Knocks for the first time. I'm ashamed of that as a football fan. I'll probably never miss an episode again.

The episode seemed forced to me...like everyone was acting up for the cameras instead of being themselves
I noticed it too. The coach portions at least did. Player interactions weren't as forced but still felt like they were playing to the camera more than normal.
The suitcase packing scene with Douglas and his wife near the beginning seemed really over-acted. Didn't stick out to me too much other that that, though.

Some impressions:

Harry Douglass is amussingly anal-retentive

D. Freeman looks small and doesn't like contact

Roddy was entertaining and his steak or chicken skit made me laugh.

The only "forced" part to me was Smith's speech to his coaches at the 0:03 mark where he emphasized that his team would be tough.

Smith is no leader of men. Neither is/was Philbin last year.

Just watched tonight, my thoughts...

1. Falcons are soft as cream cheese and won't win more than nine games.

2. Matthews is a stud.

3. You are what you eat so Kory B is a stretched out #####.

4. I love Mike Tice

5. I have drafted Jackson every year for FF, and regret it. Happy he got hurt, now I won't draft him...wait he got his injury out of the way now. This guy takes me to the Championship this year.

For my fellow insomniacs, the '05 Independence Bowl just started on ESPN Classic. South Carolina vs. Missouri.

William "Palm Tree" Moore is starting at safety as a freshman. #21 for the Tigers.

Freeman had the line of the episode:

"Boss life, just chillin right here." :lmao:

Most backs look small compared to Sjax.

I like Gio Bernard's car better than Freeman's apartment.

Harry Douglas' wife is gorgeous.

I'm excited for preseason to start so the show can be about football and not be a drama reality show. Some of the responses in here are the same things my wife and her friends say to each other after watching The Bachelor. Pretty funny to see that here.

Impressive you picked that up from one hour of television.

I've always thought Mike Smith was a bottom tier coach, based on his in game management. After watching the episode, I thought he seemed like a nice guy that just lacks that killer instinct that the great coaches seem to have. I just don't see a personality like his inspiring players these days to be great. Blank has been way to loyal to his own teams detriment.

The Falcons under Mike Smith have one more games than under any other regime in their history. He's doing fine. Yeah he's not a Jim Harbaugh out there on the field, but a coach doesn't have to be fiery to be successful. Belichick is low key. So are Andy Reid and Sean Payton.

I feel like I'm one of the few Smith fans in ATL sometimes listening to the radio.

He's a smart guy, the players seem to like him, and he's done a good job.

Lol he was so pumped for that walk-in closet and tub. Then you see William Moore with a closet full of Jordans and an indoor pool lol.

They may have 'won' more games, but here's the sticking point...they have only won a single playoff game, and that was on a LONG end of game FG after improbably driving the field in well under 2 minutes. It was a great comeback drive and Matt Ryan earned his silly nickname then and there IMO, but...BARELY one playoff win, and some extremely embarrassing playoff losses...that's the hangup.

Jim Harbaugh has never won #### at any level has he? Over rated as they come. He inherited a great team and never got them over the hump.

I really broke a sweat after sharing my own opinions. :coffee:
