HBO - Song of Ice&Fire Series -Varsity Thread - no TV only whiners (3 Viewers)

Really happy with the episode, and again, gotta say how much I enjoy seeing the book's filler condensed into workable television plotlines. Brienne/Pod, Arya casting out her past self and Jon/Janos were all excellent scenes. Dawned on me later that my satisfaction with the episode was probably also due to the fact that there was no Meereen nonsense. Looks like they'll get back to that next week, but I'll enjoy it while I can! Oh, and High Sparrow Jonathan Pryce works for me.

I thought it was a great episode. I like the moves they have taken to consolidate the story lines. I think it's less that they were bad story lines and more that they aren't worth the screen time to set up.

I loved the Pod and Brienne scene.

After last week, I was all set with this story line. Then last night hooked me again. Really looking forward to the new material at Winterfell (as well as Jamie/Bronn).

They did pan to a group of ladies in the court yard at Winterfell, assume that means the rescue plot is still in play.
Maybe I am mistaken but I took these to be Ramsey's ladies, and they did not look too pleased. I have a felling things will get much worse for Sansa before they get better.

Side note: How the f do you do a multiquote?

Why would any of you think Littlefinger is going to marry Sansa off to Bolton. Sansa is currently married to Tyrion and no one thinks he's dead.

I feel like I walked into the TV only thread
you were saying?
*cough*
I find this new development completely stupid on like 10 different fronts. It is nonsensical.
Poison roos and ramsay ala joffery and voila. Stark in winterfell

I don't buy Sansa going along with this.....at all.

Ramsay would be stupid to trust her, but maybe we will see another wedding slaughter.

I was with you. But it makes sense from the Bolton side when its explained by Roose what he expects to get out of it and the reasons as to why he did it. It makes sense from the Littlefinger side when he explains what he expects to get out of it. Where it initially suffers is as to the reason why Sansa would do it. To that...... Littlefinger's spent a good portion of his life being a pimp. He knows exactly what to say to women to get them to do what he wants. He knew exactly how to get Sansa on board.

so is the Iron Island plot completely removed from the TV show? Remember Balon died early in book # 2. He's still alive and kicking in the show for all we know.

Bolton's position is precarious with the death of Tywin. Having Sansa marry Ramsey means he stops any other Northern Lord from getting Sansa and starting a Stark restoration, and might start to build some loyalty in others. Worst case scenario she could work as a hostage if a group of Northern Lords decide to march on Winterfell. And finding a new ally in Littlefinger replaces the Lannisters who are leaderless.

IIRC, they showed Iron Islanders in the previews.

I am not sure why they are deviating so much from the book.
Because Jayne pool/fake Arya, magic mance, and young griff are all bad plots that were unnecessary.
they're not bad plots in the book, but they would have made for lame stories in a 10-hour tv show no doubt. too much back-story and exposition needed
They are more unnecessary than they are bad, but it's hard for me to believe the fake Arya story or the mance Magic thing at all really. Lady stone heart also was something I really did not like at all. Dead should be dead.

Right, there's no risk if they come back every time.

plus "fake" people wouldnt translate well to tv.

I mean it's not like the Fake Arya thing fooled anybody. I'm pretty sure Roose Bolton flat-out said he knew it wasn't Ayra, but he didn't care. The northerners certainly knew she was fake, but what are they gonna do?

True and those things wouldn't work on TV very well.

I love the books I just think some of that bringing people back and people in disguise or fake identities went a little too far. Slight of hand in writing is one thing (Jon snow and Brienne "dead" but left open) but Catlyn being undead and even Aegon (if really him but even if fake I don't like it) just takes away from the power of their deaths.

I don't know about that. Arya had been out of Winterfell for years before Jeyne took over her spot and Winterfell has had a large percentage of the people close to Arya killed or captured. Harwin didn't recognize her at all when he ran into her in the Riverlands.

The scene in the crypt with Littlefinger and Sansa gave me chills. Recounting events from the tourney at Harrenhall during the year of the false Spring - good stuff.

I totally expected to see a spy or creeper in the crypt ready to report Littlefingers plan back to Roose Bolton. Sansa is in a very dangerous position. She better start learning some positions real quick.
