HEADS UP Steelers and Skins Fans (1 Viewer)

Not to take anything away from the 2 teams that took your boys down, but both squads played like winners today. Always tough to lose big games like this, but youve all got plenty to be proud of with these squads.

Skins fans, your boys overcame an immeasureable loss in losing Taylor and went a lot farther than anyone expected. They played like champions the past month just make it to Seattle. And we'll all remember the final score was no reflection of how tight that game actually was. Heads up.

Steelers fans, you lost the cog you couldnt lose when Parker went down, and desperately could have used him tonight. But you hung like champions as well, and battled back to nearly beat a great Jacksonville squad. This was a game your boys could have won. But also a game where your boys could have rolled over and died. They didnt and its a testament to what those men are made of. Lots of pride there and much to be proud of. Heads up.

Keep it positive and continue to enjoy the football.

Congrats to Seattle and Jacksonville fans. Living to love another day.

No offense Twitch, but the Jags didn't beat the Steelers, they beat themselves, and I was waiting for Kalif Barnes to pull Harrisons pants down and mount him, he held him the whole night with not one call. Bull#### playcalling on the 3rd down ply was the dagger, even as bad as Ben played in the first half.

- the Pats are the greatest team ever.

Thanks, Twitch. Unlike most, I am rooting for the Pats. No doubt, they are the best team I've seen in my 28 years of existence. I want to see history. I am not a fan of Bellichick, but I respect the rest of them.

:shark: classy post.

How does this sound for a run to the Superbowl....

Jacksonville,

Indianappolis,

Green Bay or Dallas

That is a tough run and if the Pats pull it out they will deserve it.

Classy post, no doubt, but I do not agree. Losing Parker was not the difference, Ben making 2 poor decisions in the first half, a 98 yard KO return, a crap Holding call, Barnes raping Harrison the whole game and a no balls play call on 3rd down cost them.

 Hang tough. I know the calls always seem to suck. Keep your head up.

All truth. I still would have loved to see your boys competing with Parker. The other guys tonight had 22 carries for 30 yards. Roeth made the huge mistakes, and like the class act he is, he's already bearing the full burden. But you didnt have your gun back there behind him. And it hurt. But I agree with the points you mention, and you know your boys better than me, and watched the game more carefully and critically. Its never fun to lose. Its how we respond that often defines us. You'll be back to normal in a couple days. Or weeks. Hell, it might take all offseason. But heads up.

Meh, give them their due. You could probably call holding on every play in the NFL if you looked hard enough. Sometimes the refs see it, sometimes they don't.Admit it, PIT had the game in their grasp by stopping JAX on fourth down and they not only let Garrard get the first but also let him win the game with that run. I really had hoped to see a PIT defense swarm more and tackle a little better.Ben had a ton of weight on his shoulders in that game and played pretty well but as always, TO's just kill you.

Honestly, you think the Jags were the better team tonight? Ben tried to give it to them in the first half, but we owned them in the second half, period. Call me bitter if you want, but I was seriously disgusted with how the refs let Harrison get raped time and time again. We gave them the game, they didn't take it from us....

Sorry, but Barnes was getting owned by Harrison all night, it was a disgreace.

Unfortunately, there's never really a 'better' team. Only a winner and a loser. And it sucks. The bitterness is understandable. Id just hope you dont hang on to that too long. I expect once you hear some of your boys interviewed, and understand how painful it is for them as well, but how theyre all still alive and well, you'll come around. I didnt start this thread to patronize anyone. Just genuinely want to wish fellow football fans here well and offer some back. Its the passion that causes the pain.

Ben is awesome. If not for him, the Steelers would have gone 5-11. I'm too tired to give my reasoning, but take my word for it. Even though he threw 3 picks tonight, he kept them alive in spite of a piss poor o-line, no running game, shoddy special teams, and a D that just got overpowered when it counted the most.

I'll get over it, but neither you or anyone else will ever convince me that the Jags "beat" the Steelers tonight.

Man, you are bitter. Refs made equally bad calls all game. The PI call on Brian Williams against Ward was completely ridiculous - on 4th down not to mention. If replays on that call were from the front, then everybody in America would have been able to see Ward's entire left hand in Williams' facemask, and his right hand grabbing Williams. Check the in-game thread...you would definitely be in the minority in arguing this call.Yes, the better team won the game. Nearly every analyst was correct in picking Jax to go in and beat Pitt @ Heinz.

:lmao: The stiff arm I'm discussing was not that play chief, and we gave the game away along with terrible reffing.

Good for them, but that doesn't really mean jack in the scheme of things. The Jags won the game. End of story. I don't have to think they are the better team. I don't think they are the better team. But they won. And they are moving on to NE, while my team is going home. End of story. I'll get over it tomorrow after a good night of sleep and once the rum wears off...

You guys are starting to sound like Chargers fans. I don't feel bad for Pittsburgh anymore.

edit: and by the way, while we're #####ing about holding, go back and watch the Pats/Steelers game again and tell me how many times Pittsburgh was holding Vrabel that didn't get called. I wonder if you were complaining about that when it happened. What goes around comes around.

Didn't Jax already beat you guys?

0 for 2 and you're the better team??

Understandable. But the old "we beat ourselves" quote is garbage, IMO - just speaking in general. Jax helped to cause turnovers. On the first INT, Mathis jumped the route unbelievably well. The second INT was Ben trying to force into double coverage...bad pass. And the third?...A great play by Landri, a rookie tackle. I know its a tough loss and I feel for you. I'd almost rather see my favorite teams lose decisively, then to have a let down like that. That being said, certain Pitt fans in the Pool, not necessarily you, are wrong in not giving Jax any credit.

I'm all over the board right now and probably talking in circles...

Baby - I agree re: Vrabel...but I still don't think Jax is necessarily the better team over Pit...

Vol - I don't buy the "we beat ourselves" argument. Jax is good. I like the way they play. But when I watch their games, I don't think "wow, this is an amazing team, they are really kicking the crap out of the Steelers." They are opportunists and very fundamentally sound. To your other point, yes, a 35-10 loss would have been more bearable...I thought it was over at 28-10, but then they came back and my heart got back into it...

The first Mathis pick was nice, that's why I said Ben made 2 bad decisions, he knows it, listen to the post game interviews. If the Steelers were man handled, I would admit it, but that is not nearly the case in this game.

Nonetheless, it was a very fun and entertaining game to watch. GL in '08 Steeler fans. Tomlin will take heat for some very questionable calls, but I (for some reason) like him. Big Ben also made me a fan after his classy move - waiting to congratulate Garrard after the post game interview. Man, I like to consider myself a good sport...but that was beyond good sportsmanship IMO.

:goodposting: Dude......you can think whatever you want, there are no thought police, but when a team beats you twice in a row and you STILL think you are somehow 'better' (as not measured by the scoreboard), my advice to you is to keep it to yourself. You might have gotten beat, but you can still keep your dignity --- don't turn yourself into a Tomlinson.

It was definetely PI. You could argue that there should have been offsetting penalties, but the DB had a hold of Ward's jersey the entire play. The refs did not miss just one holding call against Barnes, it was the entire game. Harrison was a beast and was getting held the entire game. The BS call on Holmes catch was one of the worst replay reversals of the year. The refs were the worst I have seen this year. Poor officiating was only 1 factor as the poor play calling by Arians, Ben's TOs and terrible kick coverage were the other factors.

:goodposting: :lmao: you wanna talk about bad calls, talk about hines ward trying to tear the defense's face off and getting rewarded with a pass interference. and yes, ben did give the game away, but that's because he's a mediocre quarterback. you guys were so far from the best team tonight, it's ridiculously funny to try to make any other argument. your QB had 4 turnovers. your line gave up 5+ sacks. best team? really? you're kidding me.

These Pittsburgh fans are seriously disappointing me.
dude, they GAVE THE GAME AWAY. if it wasn't for the ####ty QBs 4 turnovers, and the line giving up 15 sacks, and the kick coverage team sucking ###, and the defense getting man handled by the run, they would have won easily.BEST TEAM ON PAPER 4EVERRRRR!!!

Fellas. These losses are hard to stomach no matter what the reasons or how they go down. Losing by 2 or 20. But in order to get over it, its almost nessecary to vent and express the disappointment. Lets let it happen or at least appreciate how guys feel right now without antagonizing or kicking guys while theyre down. Its the point of the thread. Support. We've all been there, and we know how hideous it feels.

Sensing some sarcasm here... hope I'm right.Isn't this just the game of football...? JAX manhandled Pit's o-line all night. You can say in many games, and especially playoff games... "if it wasn't for X, they would have won". Well, unfortunately for the Steelers, X happened several times. There is no way Pitt should have been able to stay in it - Jax should have been able to put them away. Who's to say that if been didn't throw INTs, then they wouldn't have ended up punting and returning the kick... or taking it the length of the field for a score - you can't really play this game because each play significantly changes the team strategy. The crying is weak - Jax was absolutely the better team last night - they put pressure on Ben making him throw poor balls which lead to turnovers. Now, hopefully they do the same to Brady next week.

I'm proud of the way the Steelers played last night. Everyone and their brother picked the Jags to win and many in blowout fashion. The Steelers obviously came out fired up with the way they moved the ball with ease on that first drive. At that point, I really thought the lack of respect card would do it for them. To me, that next kick return just completely deflated them. How do you let that happen? Same old story with this team.....give up huge plays on special teams, costly turnovers, make a strong push at the end of the game but just fall a little short. Unbelievable how this seems to be the same story for the Steelers every year. I will also say that if Belichick (or half the other coaches in the NFL) are in the same situation that the STeelers were in on that 3rd and 6th, they throw a freaking 6 yard slant and win the damn game. Not to say that Tomlin isn't a good coach or won't be a good coach but he does have a lot to learn. I'm guessing he'll learn a lot from this and will make him stronger in the future. Good luck next week Jags. You better bring a lot more than you brought today to take out the Pats. You definitely have the potential and you have a gamer a Garrard.

Can't we just say that it was a hard fought battle between two teams who were pretty equally matched? The Jags are the better team but last night proved that they're very close.....

lol @ Pats fans pacifying the losers (well, at least twitch -- sidekick baby needs a timeout)

I was pulling for the Steelers and they made a great comeback. Jags really didn't do much on offense ...which won't bode well againts Indy or NE. I'm not surprised at the outcome though, close game and Steelers missed Parker.

The Redskins made it about as far as they should have. They lost some regular season games they should have won; conversely they played a bit over their heads the last month of the season. Given the losses of starters due to injury and a death this year and they just did not have the ability to go any further than they did. Seattle deserved to win that game yesterday. They earned it.

Most Redskin fans will tell you I'm pretty hard on the team I root for, and I am. But given the Redskins team cohesion and improved play, and the return of many injured starters, I'm fairly optimistic about next year.

Those 2 games yesterday were highly entertaining to watch.

Its pretty simple for me, really. You dont kick a man while he's down. You give the guy a hand up. We all say some pretty merciless things from time to time around here. Ive been kicked plenty this year as my boys were exposed as cheats and frauds and the pain of all that still lingers. I dont wish that feeling on others, believe it or not on any level. As much as we as fans banter and gripe and hate on one another to whatever degrees, we're still all part of the same big pool of passionate people who love the game. And as much as I love my own team, I root for many other teams as well because I love how they play the game. I didnt really root for either team more than the other last night, though I expected the Steelers would find a way to get it done in the end. Just as I thought Seattle would somehow find a way to pull it out. For the fans of those 2 teams that went down, Im just showing some simple respect. And FWIW, probably a larger part of me was pulling for Jacksonville in their game because New England hasnt dealt with them yet. So, I do hope they get a chance. If youre gonna be the best, you like to take down every big boy out there. Jacksonville's a big boy, so I welcome that matchup if it happens. But on this day, I show respect for the fans of the teams who fought the good fight.

Well watching the playoffs have become much more enjoyable with both the Skins and Steelers losing on Saturday...

 Couldn't have said it better. Thanks, twitch.

The Jags went into Pittsburgh twice in the past month or so and beat the Steelers twice. It would be real difficult to try to justify that the Steelers are the better team. If it makes Steelers fans feel better to blame the refs - so be it. I just don't see the point.

Washington spent so much emotion since Taylor's passing just making it to the playoffs. They could have used it as an excuse to give up. They didn't. They could have quit yesterday when they were down 13-0 - but they didn't. They gave everything they had, playing with their backup QB and other key injuries, and never quit. Tons of respect for the way they responded to adversity.

Just observations from an Eagles fan. Being an Eagles fan, that's all I can do is observe :kicksrock: .

Jags were favored in this game, I don't know why you're getting your panties in a bunch?
