I am getting ready to start a new marathon. Submarine movies are one of my favorite niche’s.

Ideally I would like to find about 15-20 movies to watch.

Type of movie can be varied as I enjoy: live action, animated/anime, foreign language, etc.

Some that I am considering include:

Run Silent Run Depp
Das Boot
U571
The Hunt for Red October
Ice Station Zebra
Gray Lady Down
K19
Crimson Tide
Down Periscope

Please let me know what others you would recommend

Those all sound like XXX movie titles.

I like to run with some upbeat stuff at the beginning just to get the mindset right. After about 6-7 miles I'll go with something that rocks that is more grungy that reminds me I'm in a grind. Just fighting the miles and myself - music that adds power to my mental game.

And then the last 3-4 miles back to more upbeat, inspiring type anthems to will me toward the finish line.

I'll dig out my last playlist from my last marathon and post some ideas later.

Look at the music nerd.

Submerged w/ Steven Seagal

Chris Kody, the world's best mercenary, is freed from prison -- but there's a catch. Kody must use his lethal weapons and fighting skills to stop a group of terrorists who have taken over a nuclear sub.

20,000 Leagues Under the Sea- Kirk Douglas and James Mason team up to battle cannibals, war mongering humans and of course, a giant squid. Jules Verne come to life thanks to Disney and it's a fun ride.
I need to rewatch. All I recall is that it was at a drive-in, I was four or five, and it scared the #### out of me.
Same! I was a touch older so it it my sweet spot for fantasy and adventure but that creature looking at them...creepy as ef!

Phantom (2013)- David Duchovny and Ed Harris star in this movie loosely based on a true event. Has intrigue, intensity and doesn't play all it's cards up front so it'll keep you watching. A good, solid movie in the 6/10 range.

You grow up near DC, too? Queens Chapel Drive-In in Hyattsville, MD, 1971, double-feature with Song of the South. I was five, fell asleep during Song of the South, woke up during the octopus fight in 20,000 Leagues and had the same reaction you did.

No DC living in my background. Spent some time in Bucks county, PA for a while is as close as I come. This would have been in Oxnard, CA. I distinctly recall Song of the South at the drive-in too.

...pretty sure the last movie I saw at a drive-in was Heavy Metal, in Big Spring, Texas. I'm struggling to recall its name, I want to say it was Wagon Wheel Drive-In, but not sure. Movie buffs might recognize from the opening scenes in Midnight Cowboy when it was known as the Big Tex Drive In.

Run Silent, Run Deep starting Burt Lancaster and Clark Gable is a must. That’s one of the OG submarine movies. A sub captain who was sunk during WW2, gets a chance to skipper a new sub and is fixated on one idea: revenge at any cost. After that I don’t know many. But you will like that one I think. Glad it got included.

It's way cheesier than what you have thus far, but would Battleship be something you'd want to see?
I heard really bad reviews about that movie but ignoring that, I am looking for submarine centric movies where the vast majority of the story is on and or about the sub.

Ty.

I saw this many many many years ago but I remember almost nothing so I am really looking forward to watching this again.

It's as cheesy as it gets but I went out of my way to watch it again for the 100th time last weekend

A fair portion of The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen takes place on a sub
