Help me kill auto tune used for regular vocals—help the world (1 Viewer)

Did anyone else think of Forever by Chris Brown as soon as they saw this thread? I swear, that entire song sounds like a computer is singing.

Are you against distorting the natural voice by technology in any way?

Logic will not be your persnickety friend here.

Auto tune! Kill it!

“A lot of people complain about musicians using Auto-Tune. It reminds me of the late '70s when musicians in France tried to ban the synthesizer... What they didn't see was that you could use those tools in a new way instead of just for replacing the instruments that came before.” — Thomas Bangalter

I'm with you. If I hear any sign of autotune in a song, I turn it off and make a mental note to avoid the singer.

The worst is when Cher did it. I mean, she has an amazing voice? WTF was she thinking?

I think Cher was the first one to use it. [whoever the producer on Believe] The difference is they used it as a vocal effect. Not a crutch.

When auto-tune is noticeable, it is being used stylistically. When it is being used to correct someone who is off pitch, it is usually not noticeable.

Oh, you can sorta tell. It’s like Pepsi and Coke. Or if used stylistically, I’m talking like T-Pain usage and not like the J Baldwin-type stuff.

That annoying processed sound in otherwise sung vocals is what I take aim at. And it’s not racially motivated nor genre hatred either. No dog whistles. Just hate it. It’s grating. The constant bass thump/four on the floor and then auto tune.

I don't listen to a lot of "modern" music, so I may be off base. But I think I disagree.
Is the slide into the proper note always done for style, or is it a cover up? I've read that many young singers after hearing the auto-tune slide all their lives have learned to do it naturally, as they they now think it's the proper way to sing.

I think snapping to the pro-tools grid is just as bad if not worse for music.

All of it. If you can’t sing without it- OFF WITH YOUR HEAD!

Wow, I took this thread out, didn't I? March 5, 2023? I wonder what was going on that day . . . I seem like I was on my phone and I'm thinking it was around the time my father was having heart trouble. Sounds about right.
