HERD's '04 NFL Mock - Round 1 (1 Viewer)

OK Jason, what did they say about the Steelers? Future RB or QB, CB, OL, LB... all of them are possibilities depending on who they cut and how they attack free agency.
11. Pittsburgh Steelers -- RB, OT, CBAs a starter, RB Amos Zereoue did not show he is any more than a third-down back, and Jerome Bettis is overaged. The Steelers failed to protect Tommy Maddox for much of the season with OLT Marvel Smith out and need help on the offensive line. CB Deshea Townsend was a nickel back at the beginning of year and emerged as the top corner by season's end, but CBs Chad Scott and Dewayne Washington were not stellar. Maddox is not a long-term answer. Pro Football Weekly

Not sure why the Eagles would take a WR. Mitchell is becoming the guy, Pinky is signed and doing well and they took McMullen last year who they supposedly love. With LJ Smith coming on as TE I think they go O or D line with best avilable. Perry is a Reid kinda player if he falls and Duce goes but I doubt WR is even a thought in the first.

Just wanted to resurrect this, and thought the last comment deserved to be quoted in light of last weekend's games.Anyway, GBN put up an updated mock. It doesn't look any better than prior versions they've had (actually it looks worse), but thought I'd link it anyway.http://www.gbnreport.com/2004projection.htm

Phily doesn't have a good enough pick IMO to be able to get a stud WR in the draft. If that's the case then how will taking a chance on a WR who will take 2 or more likely 3 years to develope help them now? They need help NOW. While you don't need stud WR to win (see NE) they at least need to get rid of Mitchell who stinks and Pinky who stinks or move them to WR2 and WR3. They should try to get someone in free agency.Note: If Phily goes after (or any other team) TO, I believe SF can franchise him first.

Tyler, I actually disagree. Best I can tell, Rashuan Woods and Lee Evans could both be available for the Eagles. The knock on Woods is that he isn't terribly fast and has a little trouble getting seperation. The knock on Evans is that he isn't very tall (5'11" I think) and he has a relatively recent leg injury. So, what gets these guys into the top 2 rounds? They have great HANDS, which is the one thing Eagles receivers are in dire need of.HERD

Well then they don't need Woods because they need a FAST WR first off. They have enough WR who can't get separation as it is. The Pats WR do not have great hands but can be successful. I would think Phily should spread their formation out like NE does. Again, I think Phily shouldn't gamble on a WR that isn't a difference maker in the draft cause it will take 2 or 3 years for him to make a difference in all likelyhood.

No way the Patriots take a RB in the first round. Say what you will but there is a ZERO chance the pats take a RB in the first round.

If they didn't have 4 top 40 picks in the draft I would agree with you 100% but since they do, I wouldn't be shocked....
